This setting is absolutely spectacular large lawn fishing dock it’s truly as good as it gets on the fall river… Kitchen was well stopped beds were comfortable plenty of firewood, and even a fireplace in the master bedroom was absolutely amazing We will definitely be back host is very responsive and overall we have no issues.!
We absolutely loved our stay at owls head. This is our second year staying here for our annual fishing trip and we have already booked again for next year!
We enjoyed staying here last year and were eager to return. The house is charming and comfortable the setting couldn’t be lovelier — already looking forward to next time! Owl’s Head serves as a great base for fly fishing the area’s many rivers and streams and it’s also a nice place to just hang out and relax. Our dog loved it, too!
We will be back! We were constantly saying how much we loved this property. It had everything g we could need for a proper getaway. The kids played and swam, caught frogs and ran around! We all relaxed and enjoyed the shady grass and beautiful river. The home was so clean and organized. We loved everything g about it and are already talking about when we can go back
We just loved our stay here. The river and property are gorgeous. We loved fishing on the peer, watching the river otters, enjoyed listening to the birds chirping, sitting in the tastefully decorated home and marveling at the artwork. A+, 5 stars, thankful for the opportunity to stay here. Our children added a birds nest they found to your collection. Thank you
Very comfortable and clean. Secluded location, separated from the Fall River by a huge lawn. The kitchen was spacious and has two full sized refrigerators. Large deck, firewood and a Webber BBQ satisfied the rest of our needs.
If you are a person who loves nature, wildlife, quiet open spaces, and every possible comfort of home, then this beautiful home is for you.
Try as I might, every possible description would be an understatement!! So grateful for our time at Owl’s Head Ranch.
Nice place in remote location, Kitchen is a bit small and no microwave makes things challenging. Caretakers live on property. Tankless water heater is noisy
The location and accommodations were the perfect combination for our recent trip to the Fall River Valley. We used the house as home base to fish severl rivers in the area. We were also fortunate to experience the Hex hatch and cast from the dock in front of the house as several trout were feeding on the huge mayflies at nightfall right in front of the house. The house was well setup for 4 adults with separate rooms. The well stocked kitchen allowed us to cook our own meals. Great times!
First, the house: lived in, in the very best sense of the word. There are accomplished artists in the family, whose work is on display here, much of if reflecting the local landscape. Also an extraordinary library we enjoyed browsing, along with artfully composed collections of local artifacts. Tastefully and comfortably furnished. The weather for part of our visit was not what we’d hoped for (freak May snowstorm) but sitting by the cozy stone fireplace more than compensated. Oh yes, there’s also a gorgeous view of the river, complete with a picturesque old barn in the distance. Also some very picturesque longhorn and belted cattle! Two nice decks for sitting, one right on the river.
Our dog loved the expansive fenced yard and rolling green grass, as did we. Nice view of Shasta. Very personable caretakers live on the property, available if needed but otherwise thoughtfully unobtrusive. Lots of good fly fishing in the area.
We recommend this place enthusiastically but also with hesitation because we’d like to keep it to ourselves!
We've now stayed in the Fall River home 2 years - each time to celebrate by Grandmother's 92 and 93rd birthdays. My Grandmother lives locally in Burney and each of my 4 adult children com in from as far as Seattle and Santa Barbara. The travel isn't easy to make happen but I know that the rental is a special enough experience that they all are eager to participate. We also brought our small Italian Grey Hound dog who seemed to have the best time of all running full stride daily and interesting with the nearby cattle and other wild life. It was gorgeous to see and quite entertaining.
The home is decorated very tastefully and is quite clean. It has 2 refrigerator (which I thought was odd the first time we stayed there) but I quickly realized that when cooking meals for a crowd that they were quite helpful.
The wildlife you see at the different parts of the morning and evening is breathtaking. The property has it own boat dock and can be used for lounging.
The property is very well maintained and Kermit is so kind and right there should we ever need anything. We can only hope that we can reserve this lovely clean home with regularity and even (fingers crossed- they might want to sell part or all of the property). We'd love to spend more time at this location. Keep us in mind if that ever becomes a possibility. In the meantime, we've loved our visit.
We love the gorgeous surroundings and the serenity you can't help but experience just from the wildlife.
Just as you'd expect of a much-loved county retreat, this home welcomed us with the aura that warm family gatherings take place there. The house is well-appointed, comfortable, and pleasantly worn in. We enjoyed the gallery of treasures obviously gathered over the years--bits of lichen, bird nests, feathers, colorful stones, curious objects--every one of which certainly has a tale attached. The setting on the river is perfect. We appreciated that our dogs were welcome. The on-site manager was helpful when needed and otherwise unobtrusive. We enjoyed our sojourn there immensely.
We love the place, the beautiful location on the Fall River, the nice golf course, the terrific fishing, and certainly Kermit, the caretaker. (Owner might lighten up and have more than three wine glasses and replace the water heater that makes a rice combine seem quiet.)
We had a nine night stay, first with daughter and grand daughter and then later with old college friends for lots of laughs, some golf and trout fishing. The views from this property are wonderful. The residence is comfortable, very private and quiet. The caretaker is terrific and we would definitely stay there again.
We stayed at this home for just two nights as a stop over in a longer road trip; and to see the nearby Lassen Volcanic National Park. We really enjoyed this beautiful rustic ranch home with plenty of space and a yard that is a park in itself. Cool mornings on the dock and dinners on the back porch were a wonderful bonus.
The house listing says it has air conditioning, which is only technically true. The description does say the air conditioning is from three portable units. But there are actually just two and one of those is stuck upstairs in the loft. The whole house fan provided some relief but is just too old to pull in enough air to cool this large home during the hot months. All of this just isn't enough air conditioning to list that as a feature of the home. This probably is not a concern 95 percent of the year, but book with caution if you're looking in July or August when heat waves frequently occur.
Would I book again? ABSOLUTELY - the serene setting, with abundant wildlife and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets are unlike any other rental we stayed in. You can also feel the fond family memories in this home and I genuinely appreciate the family's willingness to share the space with travelers.
This house was the perfect spot for our group. The location is breathtaking which made it hard to leave. The on-site host Kermit was friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back next year.
Truly a place to make memories, this well-appointed family home with an enormous, meticulously cared for lawn and dock on the Fall River has charmed us from the moment we turned down the long driveway greeted by young calves, deer and a red tailed hawk. Plentiful and comfortable beds, a plethora of bathrooms, communal kitchen with double sinks and ovens + a big dining table help bring together family and friends. The home contains memories that invite you to create your own. The private dock on a tranquil spot on the river is perfect to launch morning SUP expeditions and host sunset cocktail hour. The host and on site care taker are very responsive and supportive making you feel like part of the history of this special place.
