Ein fantastisch gelegenes Cottage. Sehr heimelig und authentisch!
Peace, quiet, sheep and geese
The house was absolutely wonderful and the surroundings magnificent. Free range eggs available across the street from a beautiful farm house owned by a talented artist. The views from the house were breathtaking and we visited the beach daily to see crabs and collect sea shells. We spent our mornings admiring the mountains and bird watching, whilst drinking coffee.
We enjoyed observing the neighbors sheep and geese. There were also amazing hiking trails very near the house.
The local seafood restaurant is worth a visit as well.
The location of the house could not be better (Eilean Donan Castle, Applecross, Isle of Skye).
This house was everything we expected and more!
Wow! as close to perfect as it comes
MacDonald Cottage has to be one of the best cottages we've ever rented. From the size of the cottage (4 reception rooms!), to the light, to the beautiful gardens, and the surprise of having access to our "own" part of the beach, everything was amazing. The dogs had a great time there and having an enclosed garden meant that they were safe.
It was so clean, and is obviously a loved and cherished home. The gardens are beautiful, a real pleasure to explore. Having so many supplies was bewildering at first, then much appreciated as we realised that you can't just "nip out" to the shops. Tescos do deliver though, and their delivery drivers are very friendly!
The house was perfect for us, with the master bedroom and ensuite downstairs, and different rooms to sit in at different times of day. Even in the rain, you can sit by the doors and enjoy outside. The sofas and beds are comfy, the kitchen is well equipped, both bathrooms are lovely. My one and only suggestion was that we needed a hook on the back of the en-suite door, everything else was just right!
If you are looking for busy nightlife or even a good local pub, this isn't the place for you. If you like peace and quiet, and walking and exploring, or cycling and running up hills, you'll love it! The art gallery opposite sells fresh eggs and their geese are entertaining, a neighbour gave us fresh fish, the cafe on the Applecross Road offer great cakes to eat in or take away and the Kishorn Seafood bar is great. Its a good base to explore the Applecross and Sheldaigh and drive the amazing Bealach na Bà road, and it's also only 40 minutes to the Skye bridge.
I would definitely recommend MacDonald Cottage.
Like a second home
I spent a week in this wonderful cottage sharing with family and I must say that practically everything about the holiday was amazing. Firstly the communication from the owner was warm and welcoming with very precise and detailed directions to the cottage. When we got there we discovered it was more beautiful than in the photos and the view was breathtaking. The cottage itself was very homely, clean and well stocked. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything needed to function, including food in the fridge and cupboards. The two living rooms were cosy and the sun room and dining room both had a beautiful view of the huge garden, complete with entertainment from birds feeding on the bird feeder. We even enjoyed a visit from a field mouse, foraging for the bird food fallen in the grass! The neighbours were very friendly and welcoming too. The views of the lake at the bottom of the garden were absolutely stunning, even on days when the weather was iffy. It felt like coming home and I just fell in love with the whole place. I plan to come again sometime in the future and I highly recommend it to anyone.
Very relaxing and comfortable stay
We enjoyed our stay very much. MacDonald Cottage is very comfortable and very spacious. Particular highlights included the sunroom, dining area and the very comfy bed and en-suite. The cottage was very clean and well-appointed and we spent lots of time relaxing and watching the changing weather and views. We expected the view to the Loch to be clearer but the garden was a bit overgrown with the recent warm and then wet weather . This didn’t spoil our stay though. Overall, very nice and we would recommend to others.
The setting is breathtaking, the cottage is comfortable, clean, and spacious, and the owner is available by phone and very helpful.
If you're looking for a secluded, peaceful, slow-paced holiday to get away from it all, this is your place. (But be advised that if you want access to major centres, attractions or even just to go shopping, you'll need to be prepared to do a lot of driving on narrow and winding (but very scenic!) roads.
