About this property

Luxurious,Secluded, Award-Winning Highland Eco-Lodge, Panoramic Hot-tub sea View

A luxurious, secluded, award-winning eco-lodge, 15 minutes walk from the famous Applecross Inn, this beautiful highland home from home is only 90 mins drive from the Isle of Skye or Inverness. Best hot tub views in Scotland!

Enter the ancient spiritual sanctuary of Applecross via the spectacular Bealach na Ba, and arrive at Eagle Rock, which is built on the site of an ancient Viking watchfire. Settle in to soak up the wildness, passing wildlife and incredible panoramic views - from the infinity view HOT-TUB, or wrapped in comfort by the library fire with a whisky in your hand.

Eagle Rock is the epitome of low key luxury and pragmatism. It's beautiful and comfortable, equipped with high-end audio, WiFi and tech, handcrafted fittings and fixtures, (including the magnificent harp-shaped staircase, carved from a giant local Douglas Fir), and a Michelin chef designed kitchen.

The lodge's large, flexible spaces lend themselves to fitting around the different groups, and is perfect for special gatherings of families and friends. Small destination weddings or celebrations, where families or generations come together work well here.

There is warmth everywhere, even room by room and underfoot! (Honeymoon couples, retreat groups, and wedding parties love us!). Our winter months are almost as full as the summer ones, though the holiday is more about enjoying the incredible drama outside from warmth, space and comfort.

Our website can tell you more about bespoke catering services, botanical, cultural and historical offerings, wildlife luxury cruises...but Tesco and highland wholefoods deliver food and beverages to the door, so you can order and book online before your trip. A huge fridge freezer, industrial ice machine and two drinks fridges should see you right! (Americans - I got the ice machine especially for you!).

So often, guests arrive with lots of plans, and then find they are really very happy hanging out on the deck or media and library snug by the fire or a window seat. The hot tub heats up to 40degrees, so it's brilliant, even in winter, when you can catch the Northern Lights.

DESIGNED BY AN AWARD WINNING ARCHITECT, (who put his expertise in designing six-star South African game lodges using local materials to good use), wilderness, luxury, and ever-changing vistas make Eagle Rock a jaw-dropping experience. The house has 2500m of floor space, yet a playful flow of intimate, cozy nooks with the large living makes it a popular destination for couples. With fireplaces a stunning lighting scheme to fit different moods and functions, a huge deck and garden, and a Michelin chef designed/equipped kitchen.

This eco-sanctuary was built as a labor of love over years by the owner. It exists to inspire and nourish those who want to step out of their daily reality for a while and connect with each other and the heartbeat of the Highlands.

Keep an eye out for passing porpoises, otters, eagles and other wildlife. Listen to the wind roar from the depths of a cozy fireside leather sofa in the library as dramatic storms sweep across the bay from Skye. Dip into a lifetime's collection of books, films, sculptures, artworks and games. Enjoy meals at the huge, specially commissioned ironwood dining table in the vast dining room.

There is a large firepit down a wheelchair-accessible pathway from the infinity hot-tub, and a large fenced garden. Golfers have been known to practice their putting for hours on the lawn, and the house has a croquet set.

I fell in love with Applecross in 1998 - and it only took 10 years to find the perfect spot to build!

A South African (with Scottish lineage), I am at home in this highland wildness - enveloped by warmth and comfort and sculpture collected over a lifetime of travel. The media snug and library is packed with beautiful books and a very varied film collection. I love to see how people enjoy the different lighting plans, the furniture, and the art. For me, Eagle Rock strikes a balance I savor - between the sanctuary and solitude of its location and the way the house seems to flow and wrap around the very varied groups who stay here...It brings out the best in people.

Why they chose this property

Eagle Rock is built beneath the mythic rock it is named for. It lies within an ancient sanctuary of standing stones, on a part of the cliff known as the Black Drum, 15 minute's walk equidistant between church and pub, totally hidden from sight, yet with panoramic views, the house lies in a hollow, with the mountains at its back and the sea before it. The house is designed to mirror and harmonies with its surrounds, with local stone and wood, handcrafted for comfort and beauty.

What makes this property unique

Guests have identified different highlights, but the hot-tub, views, the lighting and the comfortable beds get the most mentions. Power showers too! Many of the cyclists and mountaineers love the huge baths and power showers. Foodies love the kitchen and the fact that there is so much fridge space. Temperature room control and underfloor heating make the place a pleasure to be in winter and people use the wood-burning stove in the library a lot in winter.
