Lovely family friendly cabin
A well-loved family friendly cabin in the mountains. Great access to trails, Silverton and Durango. We loved the porch, family room, big dining table and the kids loved the loft. Great stay!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Made for a great base for our hiking and jeeping in the San Juans. Will stay here again.

Great location!
We loved our stay at Heavens gate! It was a great location between Durango and Silverton. It was very secluded and quiet. Perfect for star gazing.
Wonderful Place!
We enjoyed the comfort of the home.
The house is set up to where everyone enjoys each other’s company. People also can slide away have privacy to themselves.
Upstairs Bed is hard but the other beds were nice. Rooms are clean and non cluttered.
We liked having extra beds available.
This is a wonderful place to stay.

Nature's Retreat
We spent our first trip to Colorado with friends and enjoyed a wonderful week in this lovely welcoming home which has everything you could need in such a comfortable, spacious, warm and cozy atmosphere. Autumn in Durango had the most spectacular views of golden aspens everywhere whether you're hiking or driving around to enjoy the beauty of nature and its picturesque views of the mountains. Whatever day trips you do, you'll truly enjoy coming home to relax on the deck gazing at the stars or sitting in front of the fireplace on a cool evening!

Aspen season, like every season, is wonderful in Colorado. One trip to Durango usually grabs everyone's heart. Come again.
All good. One complaint, sewer gas back up on main floor would choke a horse. We had to keep some windows open. Even our dog had a good time. We would do it again.

Thank you for your review, Carol. We're glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at this lovely cabin. We have had a sewage odor issue in the downstairs bathroom and have worked with the homeowner to make sure septic is cleared regularly, and we've adjusted the exterior pipe off of this bathroom and also added heating coils for wintertime which has resolved the odor issue. We look forward to hosting you again very soon.

a taste of heaven at Heaven's Gate
This is clearly a well loved home in tune to the rhythms of the day and the Colorado splendors. It provides a welcoming atmosphere inside and out. The western style art and furnishings complement the gorgeous views from the windows and generous deck. From the well-equipped kitchen to comfortable beds, this is a stress relieving home. There are many opportunities for high adventure and refreshing hiking on day trips or locally, but always the lovely return to a peaceful evening sunset or stargazing from the deck. Heaven's Gate provides an excellent respite for families or friends.

Lovely lodge
We had a lovely 3-night visit with 3 adults and 2 children - plenty of space, just right. The bunk bed was very secure and cozy. The house was super clean all around, which was so appreciated. The house was fully stocked with anything we needed. There was some fun kids games. The deck faces west so we had a lovely warm afternoons as the sun set with a gorgeous view of the cliffs and the changing leaves. The neighborhood was super quiet and peaceful and it’s in a great location right between Molas Pass and Durango, with Needles Market nearby if you forgot something. Our only complaint was the downstairs full size bed wasn’t the most comfortable pretty and the sheets very scratchy, you may want to bring your own. Lots of cozy blankets to use. There is good reliable wifi but not super strong, in case you need to run multiple streaming devices. Thanks for everything, we had a wonderful time!!

Beautiful home but has mouse problem
The house is nice, the deck is the best feature. Kitchen had everything I needed. The hot water smells a bit, and the water pressure is not very good both in the kitchen and showers, but it’s manageable. Unfortunately there was a dead mouse in the living room under the corner of the sectional couch that is unattached. The corner slides out constantly, making that portion of the couch unusable, and the floor was filthy under that corner. I had 2 small children with me and finding a dead mouse was not a good experience! Not getting a response from management company is unacceptable.

The property was ideal for our family gathering. Very comfortable and equipped with everything we could have needed to make our stay enjoyable. The personal touches added by the owner were evidence of the affection they had for the house. Gracious of them to share their family home with our family for a few days.
Beautiful home that is set up nicely our family enjoyed skiing and relaxing. Great responsive host.

Mountain home
Home is accessed on a gravel road which is about a mile from highway. (Estimate) In the fall we had no trouble accessing house with Jeep or van. In inclement weather it would require 4WD as stated.
House has large open living/kitchen/dining area with cozy, well working fireplace. Downstairs living area and bathroom is nicely decorated and quite comfortable, lower bathroom is accessed thru bedroom or hallway. Toilet odor mentioned in other reviews was supposedly fixed, however at times we detected a slight odor. We kept the door to separate toilet area closed into rest of bathroom. Toilet area also has window for fresh air. Odor was not an issue. No cold water in that bathroom sink isn’t an issue, just adjustment of handle solves that. Nice laundry area.
Upstairs open loft/bedroom is nice and spacious, while not private to downstairs, the separate bathroom is nice.
A/C is a help on warm days as sun comes into downstairs open area thru two story windows.
Deck is large, and a great place for star gazing. Could be more usable outdoor furniture for renters. BBQ grill worked well.
We, two “mature” couples, enjoyed this house, altho path to house would not be easily handicap accessible.
Location was good for day trips into Durango, Ouray, Silverton, Telluride, 4 corners area etc.
I would recommend this house for families or two couples.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Communication
An hour to the jeep trails
The water in down stairs bath sink only has hot..a bad smell comes from the toilet..saw this in another review, figured it was fixed.the grill was out of gas..the outdoor furniture that's in the pictures cannot be used because a note says for home owner only.beds need new matrices. Couch in living room worn out. Needs replaced
The house was really nice with the exception of a sewer smell coming from the downstairs bathroom. Maybe the wax seal needs to be replaced on the toilet. Whatever the cause, this needs to be addressed.
The location gets a three due to the condition of the road in the winter. To be fair it is mentioned you need 4 wheel drive or chains and winter driving skills. No joke. The location otherwise is great.

Everything you need and so close to Purgatory!
We stayed here for a full week. Four adults, three kids, and a dog, so we are a needy bunch! The cabin was big enough for everyone to have their own space, and the kitchen was incredibly well stocked. You can tell the people who own this have spent many years making sure all the basic necessities (and party necessities!) are ready for whoever comes here! The beds were comfy, the gas stove was a bonus, and the scenery/location was incredible. No highway noise, less than 10 minutes to purg even on an icy day. The deck seemed like it would be beautiful to hang out on in the summer. We will definitely be back!
We have been staying in VRBO and other rental properties for 15+ years. This rental is in the top 5 for our family. The nearby hiking is excellent - a wide range of options for every level of hiker. We did not ski but the skiing is 5 minutes away. The cabin was very comfortable for 5 adults and our dogs. It is well appointed - linens, kitchen and parking for 3 cars. Plenty of room for doing puzzles, watching movies and dining. The master bedroom loft with the master bath is clean and well decorated “Colorado cabin” style. The two bedrooms downstairs are well decorated as well. The road from the highway to the cabin is a dirt road, hilly and windy. When they say you need 4wd in the winter- they mean it. We have rented our own condo for several years on a different platform and had just a few little tweaks for the cabin. The first floor bathroom has a septic smell that needs to be addressed. We kept the door closed and kept the fan on and that took care of it most the time. At night when all the lights were on and there was cooking and the dishes washer was going, the electric circuit blew for the back bedrooms and the kitchen lights. Easy to turn back on at the circuit breaker but worth a look. The last tweak would be to have more room in the kitchen cabinets for renters to put food away. There is literally no room for groceries (that did not go in the refrigerator) and we had to put some on the counter. Just a little rearranging of the cabinets worked. Overall we had a fabulous time and we would highly recommend this property and will rent it again if we go back to the area.
Super location and beautiful home where you can tell is well cared for. Wonderful location with lots of room for family. Quiet and peaceful and not too awful far away from Durango and Silverton. Had a great stay!

Great home is a beautiful location.
Home is open and welcoming. Great location closed to mountain activities in the area.
We had a lovely time this week at Heaven's Gate. The cabin is in a very remote neighborhood 30 mins north of Durango which made it convenient for trips to Silverton and Ouray. A couple of things about this place that prevented me from providing it 5 stars. This property is not managed locally which causes a delay when and if you have an issue with the property. The code for the dumpster did not work. We didn't find this out until we had two bags of trash in our car that we were planning to dispose of on our way to Silveton. We called the management company in Salt Lake who couldn't help us and had to call the local site manager to call us back. We knew there would be a delay so we ended up taking the trash to the gas station down the road. The local management rep called us back 45 mins later and told us that there was an issue with the dumpster and that we should just find another place to dispose of it which we had already done. If he already knew that there was an issue, why didn't they reach out to there renters and notify us? It's a good thing we didn't wait until the morning or our departure to take out the trash! Regarding the cabin, it was FULL of flies when we arrived. I've actually never seen so many flies in one place in my life. We were killing flies the entire week of our stay. Also, the cold water in the main bathroom sink only works for a min or two. After that, it's all hot water so if you're not quick to brush your teeth, you'll need to use the kitchen sink like I did all week. Hopefully the owner can check on this as it seems like a small fix. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Heaven's Gate and would recommend it for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in a remote setting near Durango.
