About this property

Secluded mountain retreat

Aspen View Lodge offers the perfect mountain getaway. Your Colorado retreat begins at this 8 bedroom, 3.5-bathroom vacation rental home in an adventure lover’s paradise - the Dolores River Valley. With 4,500 square feet of living space, this home base is perfect for group retreats and events, or just to escape with friends and family. Situated on nearly 8 acres bordering the San Juan National Forest, this is an ideal base camp to explore the Southwest. Located minutes from hiking, ATVing, 4x4 trails, biking, fishing, and hunting, this place has it all! Nearby Cortez and Telluride! Just across the road from the Dolores River! Ideal for family reunions and weddings. The arch and benches shown in the pictures is a beautiful area to hold a ceremony. We do have an additional fee to hold an event on our property. Our lodge has beds for 34. We are centrally located between Cortez and Telluride offering a wide variety of restaurants, shopping, museums, National Parks and skiing. Only 20 minutes from McPhee Reservoir, one of the largest bodies of water in Colorado!

Though easily accessible from Highway 145, this cabin is nestled in the woods and has a very private feel. Imagine exploring thousands of acres of national forest directly from the property, filled with pine, oak, spruce, aspen and abounding with wildlife. Watch the Dolores River wind through the valley. Fish on the river or hike up one of many nearby trails. Take a day trip to Telluride and enjoy the free Gondola in one of Colorado's most pristine alpine mountain towns (40 min away). Take another day trip to some of the best preserved ancient native american ruins in North America at Mesa Verde National Park (45 min away). Or just enjoy the mountain air and relax in a quintessential Colorado setting at the cabin.

Please be prepared, if you are coming in the winter, for snowy and icy road conditions. We have a very long, steep and narrow driveway. Four wheel drive and/or heavy duty chains are required if you are coming in the winter in order to make it up our driveway. If you have at least one four wheel drive vehicle in your group, you can use that as a shuttle and park the rest of your vehicles down below. Thanks for your understanding, we don't want you to get stuck!

Wedding weekend celebration
Beautiful property with lots to do in the surrounding area. We were up here for our wedding! Bad weather and unforeseen circumstances resulted in us having to pivot our plans for a ceremony at the ceremony site, but the location has plenty of options for backup plans for a ceremony. We ended up doing the ceremony on the porch near the gas fire pit and it worked out amazing! During our stay there was an emergency fire resulting in down power lines. As a result we had no power for a day, but the house is more than equipped for this. The property manager was very responsive and let us know where all the back up water and flashlights were. Each floor also had a fireplace and the house is equipped with more than enough firewood. Despite the unforeseen complications due to Mother Nature our group had a great time! Would definitely come back to this place.

Comfy and beautiful - everything we needed
We were so happy with our stay! The house was very comfy and well appointed. It was well stocked with everything we needed- pots, pans, dishware, paper towels, laundry detergent, dishwasher soap, etc. I have stayed at other rental houses that supply a very limited amount of these items, so I appreciated having enough to last our whole trip. As you can tell from the photos, this is a great house for a large group. We had plenty of space. The large dining table was big enough to seat our full group of 11 people for Thanksgiving dinner (and we could have sat more people at the adjacent counter stools in the kitchen). The house is not modern and shows plenty of signs of wear, but everything was functional. The best part about the rental is the outdoor space. We had several kids who loved climbing in the tree house, playing in the stick fort, sledding down the hills, exploring the wedding venue, and watching turkeys visit the yard. Our group was not there for a wedding, but I can say that I would highly recommend the rental as a wedding venue! Very picturesque and the benches and wedding arch seemed perfect for an outdoor wedding. Thank you!

Another amazing stay
We had our wedding here a year ago and just came back to celebrate our first anniversary with family and friends. Could not recommend this cabin and property manager “more highly”. We love staying here and hope to make it an annual trip for our family.

Perfect spot in the fall
This was an amazing place to stay and get married, especially the second week of October. The cabin gave an amazing view to see the leaves change and in full color. They also stocked it very well overall. The wedding site was also incredible, the walk up was absolutely stunning and my favorite part! Maybe if you’re nervous about driving in the mountains any, walk up/down the driveway and it’ll make you feel better :) besides the driveway the drive there was absolutely perfect and not intimidating at all for those of us from the flat lands.

We have lived in Colorado Springs since 2012 and are raising our 6 children in the beautiful Cheyenne Mountain area. As of 2019, our children range from 15 years old to 1 year old. Neither of us are native to Colorado, my wife is from Minnesota and I hail from Arizona. We are thrilled to be able to settle in Colorado, and call it home.

Why they chose this property

We love the beautiful, private setting. You truly feel that you have the mountains to yourselves when staying at this property. Southwest Colorado is a perfect place for our family cabin because it is centrally located as a gathering place for our extended family in Utah, Arizona and New Mexico. We purchased this property because it would be a getaway large enough to accommodate our family in the future as our children grow and start families of their own. The San Juan Mountains are our favorite mountain range in Colorado. We love the isolation and beauty of the San Juans, and the close accessibility to all the amazing variety that the West has to offer. Towering mountain peaks (Telluride, Lizard Head Pass), canyons (Moab), ancient native American ruins (Mesa Verde), breathtaking rivers (Dolores), skiing and countless festivals (Telluride, Durango) are all a short drive away, and you can enjoy it all far from the chaos of the front range and other major cities.
