The Sanctuary on Golden Lake is where multigenerational families make memories that last.

A private, wide sandy beach with shallow water keeps grandkids happily occupied for hours. Adults get the massive lighted Trex deck, large screened porch, and free firewood fire pit for coffee at sunrise, grilling at sunset, and quiet evenings under the stars. Four spacious bedrooms (smart layout with main-floor rooms perfect for families with kids and an upstairs suite with a huge jacuzzi for the adults), two living areas, a fully stocked kitchen, and lake toys (kayaks, canoe, SUP boards, paddleboat) mean everyone has what they need without the usual vacation scramble.

No rocky shoreline and a calm no-wake lake make swimming, floating, and peaceful paddling easy and safe. Pokagon State Park, affordable local golf, Shipshewana, and Trine University are all nearby. Guests consistently say the house is even lovelier and more comfortable than the photos.

Perfect for grandparents hosting the whole crew, three couples, or a quiet friends’ weekend. All seasons shine here — beach days in summer, firepit evenings in fall, cozy retreats in winter. No pets, no parties, max 8. Come once, and you’ll already be planning the next visit.

ACCESSIBILITY ISSUES

The property has steps throughout, and the concrete and yard are uneven. The property is not especially accessible.

THE SPACE

Main floor: open living and dining spaces, two eating areas, a popular puzzle table, one King bedroom, one bedroom with two twin beds, and a full bath/shower — ideal for the family with kids so the little ones (and their parents) are close to everything.

Upstairs: oversized King master with walk-in closet and a large Queen bedroom, separated by a massive bathroom featuring the big jacuzzi tub that adults love. Both upstairs bedrooms open onto a second living area with couches and a smart TV (streaming or device connectivity). This level becomes the peaceful adult retreat.

Outside on the double lot: a large private yard, the massive lighted Trex deck, a big, screened porch (morning coffee heaven), and a firepit area with free firewood. The wide private sandy beach has shallow water that kids adore, and the calm no-wake lake and the Pigeon Creek system are perfect for the provided kayaks, canoe, and SUP boards.

The home is thoughtfully stocked so you don’t have to pack half your house. Fast Wi-Fi, central heat and air, and attentive hosts. Quiet hours 10 pm–8 am. Maximum 8 guests. Keycode arrives 24 hours before check-in. The entire property is yours except the upstairs garage.

Family Thanksgiving

Property was very well maintained and nicely decorated. WiFi connection was important to us and it worked well. There was a nice view of the lake. The colder weather kept us inside so we didn’t take advantage of the large deck area or any of the water sports available. Host was easy to communicate with and respected our privacy. We will certainly consider staying again in the future with no hesitation.

Absolutely Wonderful Getaway!

The home is absolutely perfect. Plenty of room with great views of the lake. The kitchen is open to the living room. The bedrooms are great size and comfortable. There is a nice TV room upstairs. The deck is perfect for relaxing and having meals outside. There are plenty of water toys - kayaks, paddle boards, floats and a canoe. I highly recommend this place for a quiet getaway. It was very clean and contact with the host was simple with quick replies. Would love to go again!!

Exceptional quality and communication

We stay in a lot of places, but this property stood out for cleanliness, lay out and communication. The pictures do not do the property justice. 4 large bedrooms were more than enough room. The deck was amazing, as was the screened in porch. The area is absolutely serene...so quiet and lovely. And I can not say enough about the exceptional communication with Terry! I can't wait to go back!

Nice property and well stocked. Location was very good as we could get to Angola, Pokagon, Freemont and Auburn within a few minutes. We didn't use any of the outdoor stuff much because it wasn't warm enough for us oldies. However it looked like they had plenty for anyone to do!!

A true Sanctuary

Our group of five older women, all cousins, enjoyed our stay at the Sanctuary on Golden Lake. If you love peace and quiet with a beautiful view, this is the place. We had plenty of room to spread out, or to gather together comfortably. The screened porch was our favorite spot. Rain or shine, it was a lovely place to sit and watch the lake, the birds, and boats gliding by. We were disappointed that the VRBO listing promised 2 full and 2 half baths. The home has two bathrooms.

Trine Grad Party!

We are from southern Indiana and our daughter and son-in-law now live out of state. We met here for a short, family vacation centered around our son’s graduation from Trine in May 2025. It was not warm enough to enjoy the water, but this was the perfect house for a small, family-oriented grad party. There were MANY thoughtful extras that previous VRBO stays have not had. Family and friends all commented on the exceptional view and the back deck area. The short distance to Trine and other amenities was perfect. Ample parking and safe walking for grandparents. Would definitely go back to this location again!

This was our 3rd time staying at The Sanctuary. We had our kids and grandkids visit during the week and we all had a great time. The owners are wonderful people and responded immediately to an unexpected issue with the water heater. We have already booked our trip for next year. If you are thinking about booking this property, just do it. You won't be disappointed!

Golden stay on Golden Lake

Five of us (sisters and husbands) gathered at "The Sanctuary" for a five-night stay. When the previous guests left early, the owners allowed us to check into the home earlier than the listed time! That was certainly appreciated. One bonus of staying here is that the neighbors are very friendly. We took walks several days, and homeowners stopped to say hello; people just driving by all waved to us. We took full advantage of the porch and large deck for reading and sharing meals.

The Perfect Vacation

My husband and I had, what he described as, the perfect vacation spending 2 weeks at The Sanctuary. Everything you could need is thoughtfully provided. Our family and guests used all of the watercraft and fishing equipment. Above all, the beauty and restful feeling that greets you everyday is beyond description. Wonderful space & home

We enjoyed a winter visit with family and friends. Although we didn’t get snow during our visit it was cold and we enjoyed the location on the lake. Our daughter attempted ice skating for the first time and we also did some ice fishing. The amenities of the home are great, loved the layout and design. The location was convenient for us to visit family in Fort Wayne, but also be near family that lives further North in Fremont. And we were not far from Angola and had shopping and food options nearby. Thank you for opening up your home and offering it to us to rent and enjoy.

Great New Year's Meeting Spot

The three sister's with spouses have not gathered for years! We planned a New Years meet part way in between Chicago & Bluffton Ohio. The house was perfect, beautiful and a cozy stay for games, cooking and family cheer. The state park up the road was a fun outing and my sisters and I walked around the lake for exercise. Terry was a great host and the house had many extra's. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Great house and location

Owners are great. Terry clearly has invested time and effort to make staying at this house a great experience. The house is clean and has everything we needed. Water equipment and raft at the house was perfect to use on the lake. Great things to do close by including horseback riding at Pokagon, shopping at Fremont and Hartford winery.

Why they chose this property

Golden Lake is known as "the grandparents' lake." We like that it's rural and quiet and that folks continue to move here and fix up these little cottages around the shore.

What makes this property unique

A huge yard, lush beach, quiet neighborhood, and peaceful days. The screened porch overlooking the lake, a jacuzzi tub to melt away your worries, and a lake full of fish. Some guests have called it the best "getaway" lakehouse in Indiana.
