Welcome! We love hospitality and are excited to host you at ElKen Retreat in the small, quaint East TX town of Canton!You'll be treated to personalized touches throughout your stay and are sure to walk away with a happy heart because of your experience!

This space (suite 4) @ ElKen Retreat is a private room attached to our house. (We also offer 3 suites listed that are behind our home.) You will be treated to a wonderful King bed and a full sofa sleeper (added fee for more than 2 guests).

Jason is a Licensed Massage Therapist with his office on our property. Book your spa package during your stay! ($100/hour Added fee- pay after services; not available on Sundays)

Depending on the day and schedules, breakfast options include omelettes (made to order🎉) or egg casserole, homemade biscuits, bacon, gravy(normally served on Saturdays); french toast & sausage (normally served on Sundays); or muffins (normally served on weekdays). We serve breakfast in our dining room or on the back covered porch/pool deck area. If your stay is more than 3 days, we’ll chat about breakfast options on days 4+. We communicate before or during your stay to accommodate our guests as much as possible!

Pool and hot tub are just around the corner from your private room 😊 Hot tub is closed during the summer. Pool may also be seasonal. Hot tub is under a covered porch. Hot tub is for guests 18 and older only.

We do have a sweet dog- Sadie, our schnauzer and 2 cutie goldendoodle puppies, Hazel and Blair- who may greet you and “talk” occasionally..we quiet them as quickly as we can!!

When you arrive, you'll park on concrete or asphalt, walk through a lovely gate and enter into your own private retreat. Walk around the pool to your room. If weather permits, you can enjoy the pool and hot tub, along with a very large covered back porch with tables and chairs.

More about ElKen Retreat....
This space was started as a rental in October of 2018...because it was going well for us and our guests;), we have now expanded. In 2020, we completed a brand new addition to ElKen Retreat. Connected by the roof, but behind our home, we added 3 large bedrooms with 3 bathrooms (walk in showers) and a large gathering space with commercial kitchen and half bath. One bedroom has a Serta icomfort (so comfy) King bed and sofa sleeper. Two bedrooms have 4 twin beds (also comfy Serta icomfort beds with high end bedding!)... All rooms have extra space to add a roll in Serta cot for another person.

Retreat for the weekend: girls trip, Bible study, scrapbook, quilt, spa, leadership retreats, business retreats.
*Retreat pricing is available that would include:
*2 night minimum stay
*Tell us why you are coming and we'll accommodate (pricing can vary)! Spa can include infrared sauna, massage therapy by licensed massage therapist, hot tub, facials, aromatherapy, saltwater pool.
*Use of the Gathering Place - a great room with 3 large tv's, kitchen (rules apply), tables, chairs, relaxing environment, etc...we will accommodate your needs!

The host requires you to complete the following before checking out:
Strip any used beds and gather used towels
Remove personal items and remove leftover food and drinks
Turn off the lights
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
No lifeguard on duty. Please swim at your own risk. Pool/hot tub closes at 10:00pm. Hot tub closed during summer.
Checking out: please strip sheets off beds and put on floor leaving mattress covers on beds. Other bedding can stay on bed. Thx!
There may be other guests, and we live on property, so...please keep all noise levels down. Only registered ElKen guests are allowed on the property.

We’re absolutely glad that we decided to book this VRBO. So much better than a hotel ever could’ve been. The owners was super nice. My husband and I chose Elken Retreat for our COVID19 delayed 25th anniversary getaway! We loved it!

Our stay was peaceful, relaxing, and refreshing. The owner's are very friendly and gifted at little touches that made us feel truly welcomed. They seem to think of everything. Stayed two nights, showed up a little late Friday night and had a lil hard time finding room since we parked in wrong spot - but Jennifer responded right away - and after walking around a bit found it! Hot tub is great - breakfast and massages were a huge plus. Even homemade cookies randomly. Highly recommend.

My furies and I stayed for First Monday. Our room was so adorable! Bed was super comfy and room was stocked with everything you need. Jason and Jennifer are the sweetest! They brought hot cookies to the pool and s’mores at night! Make sure you ask to pet their precious golden doodles and have Jason share some jokes. Breakfast is also superb! It got pretty dark there...

We went to Texas for the eclipse 2024 and had a wonderful time at the retreat. Jennifer was super nice and even provided us with two pairs of eclipse glasses, as well as with delicious snacks in the morning. We watched the eclipse together with her and other guests. We got lucky with the cloud coverage and had an amazing time. Our room was at the back of the retreat. It was super cozy and extra quiet. We would absolutely stay there again!

Romantic getaway before picking our daughter from camp

We had a fantastic stay. We were picking up our daughter from Sky Ranch and booked the Elken Retreat the night before we picked her up for a quick romantic getaway and to be closer to camp for pick-up. The room was beautifully decorated and the bed was very comfortable. Jason and Jennifer put many personal touches into our stay. We had a welcome sign, a “happy pick up daughter day” sign at breakfast, and chocolates on our pillows at night. We had a nice soak in the hot tub while listening to music on the patio at night and a delicious breakfast in the morning-the homemade biscuits were our favorite! This was a perfect quick romantic getaway for us and we can’t wait to get back! Thank you Jason and Jennifer for a wonderful stay.

I absolutely loved everything about this property, my suite #5 was better than I imagined. Jennifer & Jason are the kindest people ever! Breakfast both mornings (prepared by Jason) was delicious especially the French Toast (my fav) and the coffee. I'm still laughing and sharing Jason's jokes. Their property is magical. Visit with the Turkeys, hens and other birds. It was fun finding & collecting feathers. I found angel wings in the tall tree. I visited several places that weekend. I recommend them all. The Forge Bar & Grill, Edom Log Cabin restaurant and a further drive out was Speakeasy Coffeehouse in Quitman. I was there to enjoy a friend's live music at some of these places but I found so much more joy in East TX and the ELKen Retreat was a huge part of that. Thank you! Love you guys!
