About this property

One of a Kind Rustic Cabin, Amazing Views of the Mountains, with a Sled Hill

Experience the charm of a quiet, rustic cabin with all the comforts of a modern-day home. It’s cozily positioned in a secluded mountain escape, located high on Miller Mesa and just eight miles from town. It’s the perfect vantage point for stunning views of the San Juan mountains in all directions, as well as abundant wildlife including deer, elk, bears, and more. There’s even access to the National Forest, conveniently situated just down the road. If you’re seeking a tranquil entry into the natural world, this cabin is your gateway!
The Rustic is made to give the best of both worlds: Old-school allure, but plenty of modern comforts and conveniences. Indeed, “rustic” doesn’t translate into “roughing it!” You’ll experience ease as soon as you pull into the property. The circle drive supplies ample parking for family, friends, and off-roaders with trailers or multiple vehicles. And, the large, raised deck makes you feel like you are in the trees, with a perfect bird's eye view to watch the wildlife.
The cabin itself is made of rough-sawn, circular-cut lumber. Wooden beams throughout the cabin give a feel of mountain-chateau comfort. And, the combination of antique and modern furnishings will instantly put you at ease. Some particular features of the cabin include:
● An open floor plan, which includes the kitchen, dining, and living area.
● In the kitchen: Custom hickory cabinets, river rock pebbled backsplashes, and
black granite countertops, combined with new stainless-steel appliances.
● Two bathrooms on the main floor: the vintage guest bathroom used for the two
bedrooms upstairs, as well as the private master bathroom. The antique bathroom
has a gorgeous original clawfoot tub/shower combo, with a fabulous large cast
iron sink. The master bathroom also has an original antique sink with washboard
and a large walk-in shower with double shower heads.
● A master suite is located in the rear of the cabin on the main floor, allowing for
maximum privacy and a peaceful retreat from the rest of the house. Beautiful
French doors lead out of the back of the cabin, letting you enjoy the views of
nature and peaceful mountain living.
● A laundry room on the main floor is available for use.
● Two upstairs bedrooms; one queen size bed and one king size bed with a heavy
privacy curtain covering the door way in between both rooms.
● A sledding slope on the property is a huge favorite for our guests and keeps the
whole family entertained for hours.
Staying at The Rustic gives you everything you could ask for in a mountain
vacation, including ample opportunity to enjoy the outdoors. There’s easy access to the National Forest, the town of Ridgway, amazing restaurants, and abundant outdoor adventure. Those adventures include: Off-roading, hiking, fishing, hunting, water sports, river rafting, skiing, ice climbing, and snowmobiling, all of which are just minutes from Ridgway, Ouray, or Telluride! We hope you enjoy the many features that this cabin has to offer!
Year round access, recommend all wheel or 4 wheel drive vehicles in the winter months.

The property does have outdoor cameras. There is a camera to the left of the front door facing out towards the road, that covers the front yard and parts of the driveway. It reaches 100 ft towards the road. The second camera is a door bell camera that covers part of the porch looking out towards the front yard about 30 ft. The camera in the back yard is to the right side of the master bedroom and spans out about 100 ft thru the back yard. Cameras are only accessed if a guest, neighbor or property manager deem an issue that needs to be reviewed.

Hilltop Hideaway
This rustic cabin was exceptional & has everything you need to feel right at home. Our family of 4 had the best time cooking, playing games, sitting by the fire and going for long walks together. The yard is fenced and super spacious making it a safe and great place for the doggies to explore. The views are spectacular! The neighborhood is nice & quiet. Jennifer the host was so wonderful and super helpful. This place is paradise. We can’t wait to come back!

The Owners’ Story
The owners of The Rustic is The Frisbee family—from Texas. Together, they have been coming to this area for years every summer, thoroughly enjoying the opportunity to off-road and live the mountain life.
The Frisbee's own an auto shop that is just south of Dallas. In addition to servicing regular automotive needs, they also build overland and off-road Land Cruisers for customers hailing from all over the United States. They are blessed to have three boys and a daughter in-law who also keep them busy and enjoying their time with them all.
In 2018, they decided to look around and see if they could find something to call their own, and they were successful. They were fortunate to find the exact cabin and space of their dreams in an area that made their hearts happy and fulfilled their souls. Though The Rustic's bones were solid, the house had been abandoned for a few years—thus, it needed some (ahem, a lot of) work. Luckily, the family was able to bring her back to life, and just as they envisioned her. It has been an amazing few years, and all have enjoyed the experience. The cabin is an ongoing labor of love and a testament to their hard work. Much is still needed to be done, but The Rustic is well on its way and at a point where the family can take a break and enjoy it—and also invite others to come and stay.

Why they chose this property

In 2018, Frisbee's decided to look around and possibly buy property. Jennifer Frisbee was originally searching for opportunities in the high country, as they had always visited during the summer to off-road and spend time running the passes. They contacted an amazing realtor in the area and looked at some places while engaging in a crash course in Colorado real estate. They found the listing for the cabin online and made several trips to scope the property. They asked the realtor about it and initially he said, "Oh you don't want to see that. It has been abandoned and empty for years. It is very dirty, and the layout is wonky."
Little did he know, the family has a serious love for old things alongside an obsession for buying, redoing, and flipping them. In fact, Jennifer tends to be the “Queen of Bad Life Decisions and Hard Manual Labor.” (Just joking—sort of.) So, she told the realtor she wanted to go and look at it. As it turned out, the entire group ended up going to look at it that day. When they pulled up, every single one of them instantly knew it was the place for them. The cabin’s immediate vibe was amazing; it was like stepping back in time when you crossed over the threshold. They spent hours there that first visit, examining everything from the top of the roof to the house’s foundation. Yes, it was true that the old girl needed a lot of work, but her bones were solid, and they knew she had a ton of love left to give to their families.
The families closed on The Rustic in late 2018 and have traveled back and forth at least once a month since then, focused on fixing her up. She is an ongoing project, and one that is totally worth it. They are ecstatic knowing they can bring her back to life. What’s more, their project has attracted much interest—so they have decided to share The Rustic with others. They hope you enjoy her as much as they do.

What makes this property unique

Most people, when they are on vacation, want one of two things: Quiet and secluded or a space buzzing with life and energy. The Rustic offers the best of both worlds—a serene, private cabin that is a short drive from a town with lots of activity. The unique, old-school vibe of the space allows you to feel like you stepped back into yesteryear, allowing you to slow down from the daily grind. However, The Rustic still has all of the modern comforts and amenities you could desire. On top of it, the sled hill delivers excellent fun for the whole family—and you don't have to waste time loading your car and traveling somewhere for the day.
