Ahoy!
Welcome to our house. You have embarked upon our ship. Standing at our ship’s wheel, imagine you are the captain of this ship and you are about to set off. You have the view of the Alsea bay in front of you, the Pacific ocean to your left, the Alsea bay bridge and town of Waldport to the right of you. Directly in front of you is the ever-changing tides and numerous wildlife awaiting your viewing. You can monitor the weather moving toward you from out at sea. At the end of the day, there is a likelihood of some amazing sunsets. If that isn’t enough, the wooden steps leading down to the beach await your curious adventures and long walks in both directions. Enjoy!

We just love when our guests can relax and make memories. Often people staying here experience the sense of time slowing down. We hope you can achieve that sense of peace and also experience the many activities available in this area. We love this small town and the Central Coast region and after over 40 years exploring it, we can help you plan some fun adventures. Brochures and maps are provided on the buffet. We wrote about some possible walks you can take right from our doorsteps. You can find additional information at the Alsea Bay Historic Interpretive Center in the town of Waldport. If you need something, just ask!

The value of our beachhouse is in the location, view, and beach access. It is a casual spot. You won't find any granite countertops or modern appliances, but we love the place for the location and the great memories we can make here.

Pets
We welcome your dogs with prior approval! We do ask for a $55 per pet per stay fee to help us keep up with the cleaning. We will be in touch to collect the pet fee after you book. Thanks!

Rest assured there is a human monitoring all of this so if you have an actual question we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Weather/Climate
Please note that we do not offer free cancellation due to inclement weather, poor air quality, or high wildfire danger in the area, unless active road closures due to fire or weather conditions prohibit guests from accessing the house, or advise guests to evacuate during their stay (Level 2 or higher fire evacuation notice, or road closures prohibit travel from guests’ point of origin to the house).

Host profile image
Our parents grew up on farms in the Midwest. They met in a hospital in Ogden, Utah after our father lost his leg in WWII saving the life of a fellow soldier. After the war, they were quickly married. They moved to Portland, Oregon where our father had a job waiting for him with the Corps of Engineers. Our mother taught in the primary grades for several elementary schools in the inner city of Portland. Here they raised 5 children.

We frequently visited the Oregon Coast as children. Nearing retirement and the 5 kids moving on into their own lives, our parents rented a house to the left of this property. They loved the mild climate and the ocean air. So when this property became available in 1975, they didn’t blink twice, they bought it and dreamed of building a little place to call their own. Here it is. They thought it would be enough to just have two bedrooms, but as their 5 children married and had children, their grandchildren, it became increasingly necessary to expand upon their abode. The private “Captain and First Mate” quarter was built along with the second garage below. The final addition was to transform an outdoor balcony into a sunroom with views of the forest.

Our father was also an avid oil painter. The best paintings have been dispersed into the homes of the 5 grown children and now the homes of his 15 grandchildren. You can see many of his attempts as well as others who have contributed their paintings over the years, throughout the garage and bedrooms.

If relaxing is your fancy…. Stay here. Home is where your anchor is. Read a book. Stare out at the water and wildlife. Watch the weather arrive and pass by your windows. Take a nap in the sunroom. Learn or practice the piano. Cook something while enjoying the view. Play the game of snooker downstairs. Find other games to play. Make something artistic. Enjoy the sunset. Just breathe in the cool ocean breeze and stop all thinking and worrying.

Happy Memories! - Carrie, Sam and the family
