The large banquet-style kitchen and dining area create a magical atmosphere for gatherings, while the lounge with a fireplace and wine bar adds to the charm. The outdoor bar, conveniently located above the pool, offers sweeping 180-degree views of the Grenadine Islands, stretching southward. The estate has been featured in numerous international publications and is also an ideal venue for hosting special events such as weddings or retreats.

About the host
Hosted by Quirin Schaedle

I grew up in the Grenadines, primarily on Mount Pleasant, Bequia—an intimate hilltop community steeped in history. Centuries ago, The Old Fort stood as the centrepiece of this area during the French colonisation of the Caribbean. As a child, I watched in awe as my parents and their dedicated team restored the ruins, transforming them into the stunning estate you see today. They managed the property for nearly 40 years, instilling in me a deep appreciation for its history and significance.
Growing up in Bequia had its challenges, particularly in education. I studied through an American correspondence course before commuting daily by ferry to neighbouring St. Vincent for my A-levels. After nearly two decades in the Caribbean, I moved to Europe to broaden my horizons, a journey that proved invaluable for my future in hospitality.
At just 18 years old, I began my apprenticeship at the Kempinski Hotel Four Seasons in Munich. I then worked as a full-time F&B waiter at the Hilton Amsterdam, gaining hands-on experience in world-class hospitality. Two years later, I moved to London to complete a degree in International Marketing and Hospitality Management at London Metropolitan University.
After several enriching years abroad, I returned to the Grenadines—the place I will always call home—and became the director of The Old Fort in 2005. This role allowed me to combine my love of travel, instilled during childhood summers spent visiting family in Europe, with my passion for hospitality. The unique experience of growing up on a picturesque island that draws visitors from diverse backgrounds, coupled with my global travels, has shaped me into the host I am today.
The Old Fort is more than just a destination—it’s a reflection of my family’s journey and our commitment to creating unforgettable experiences for our guests. My parents’ travels inspired them to design a place that meets the highest standards of hospitality, and it is my honour to carry on their legacy.

Why they chose this property
The Old Fort is the only fully restored plantation in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and one of the few remaining in the world. Sadly, most of these historic estates have fallen into ruin and abandonment. The property's rich history, combined with its majestic layout, set on what is widely regarded as the most impressive estate on the island, makes it truly exceptional. The expansive acreage stretches down several hillsides to the Atlantic Ocean below, offering breathtaking views at every turn.
Having marked my parents' 46th Christmas Eve on the island in 2024 (the day they arrived), our unparalleled knowledge of the area is deeply rooted in the many connections we've made over the years. This long history enables us to offer a level of service that stands apart. There are many reasons to stay at The Old Fort: from the sweeping views—arguably the best on the island—to the spacious bedrooms and various inviting areas throughout the property. The careful restoration of the estate preserves its unique character, while modern comforts abound. Additional services, such as the opportunity to charter our private 40-foot powerboat, further enhance your stay. And, of course, Bequia, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled islands in the entire Caribbean, serves as the perfect backdrop for this unforgettable experience.
