About this property
Elegant Villa in Private Hope Bay. Infinity Pool with Sea View.
Sights 'n Sounds is one of the most elegantly designed and furnished villas on Bequia. It has an open floor plan that marries outdoors with indoors and allows family and friends to easily migrate from the pool to the verandah to the kitchen and living room with ease.
The home is furnished and equipped as a permanent residence, not a rental. King plantation poster beds, the finest linens, 2 over sized linen sofas, palecek love seats, and solid teak outdoor lounge chairs and rockers.
The chef's kitchen leaves no tool to be desired. A 48' Viking range with double ovens will cook for any size party. Dine indoors or al fresco under the stars. A large stainless outdoor gas grill is conveniently adjacent to the kitchen and pool.
Each guest room is distinctly private. The lower guest suite has an adjoining half bedroom with bunk beds for families that like to keep young children in close proximity at night. The detached guest cottage has its own kitchenette, private verandah and outdoor rainwater shower. Each bedroom is air conditioned but has two sets of doors and windows, one set with plantation style louvers and one set with glass panes, thereby allowing guests flexibility to chose their preferred sleeping environment and mix of views, ocean breeze, security and/or air-conditioning. Two bedrooms are adjoined by large double sink bathrooms and private dressing rooms with ample built in closets and drawers for the most well packed traveler.
The expansive grounds are exquisitely manicured with an abundance of tropical foliage, flowers, plants, flowering trees and fruit trees. Pick fresh papaya, mango and grapefruit every morning directly from the property for breakfast or a snack. Oranges, key limes and avocado are also grown on the property and available to pick depending on the time of year.
The entire home is constructed from natural materials. The ceilings, doors, windows and living room floors are hand milled from stunning Brazilian Ipe' wood. Elegant coral wall finishes and tiles complement the rich wood grain to provide a bright clean and crisp island vibe. A massive wrap-around verandah and partially covered pool deck provide almost limitless options for lounging in sun or shade at any time of day. Ceiling fans adorn every single interior room and every square foot of covered verandah.

About the host
Hosted by Thomas Smith

Angela and Tom live in Baltimore MD with their two sons ages 14 and 8. Both sons love, love, love coming to Bequia and made their first trip to Bequia when they were 2 months old. They enjoy being at Sights'n Sounds so much that many days they refuse to leave for the beach, preferring to stay at the villa and swim/play in the pool.
Angela and Tom designed, built and furnished Sights'n Sounds over a period of about 4 years. We christened Sights'n Sounds over New Years 2006. Every decision and detail was meticulously scrutinized and managed. Tom even made an on-site visit to the rain forests of Brazil to hand-pick the Ipe' lumber for construction.
Angela's sophisticated eye for design and attention to detail is evident in the harmony of the home and its furnishings. The home is elegant, yet comfortable and warm. Caribbean festive colors are used as accents and not overpowering. Colonial plantation style hardwood pieces are mixed with coastal living style slip covers and wicker.
We love for guests and families to be able to experience the special joy that Sights'n Sounds and Hope Bay bring to us.

Why they chose this property
The first time Tom visited Bequia he was a guest of the owners of Hope Estate. It was, literally, love a first sight. He decided the first morning he saw the sun rise over Hope Bay that he would own a property on that very spot. Several years later he purchased the land under Sights'n Sounds. He struggled for an entire week to decide between buying on the leeward side of Hope Point which overlooks Hope Bay, or the Windward side of Hope Point that overlooks the north side of Bequia island. Each day, he spent hours traversing from one side to the other, walking the property and gazing over the horizon. Finally, on his last night, after consuming possibly an entire bottle of rum, he decided it might be a good idea to survey the properties at night. At 1:00am in the morning, he inspected both lots, and as he was navigating the steep terrain he tripped and broke his glasses. He realized the next morning that perhaps breaking his glasses was a sign, and that instead of just looking at the lots, that he should focus on using his other senses to make a decision. So he went back out to the lots his last day on Bequia, stood on each parcel, closed his eyes and listened. The choice became immediately clear. The soft breeze rustling the tall trees that adorn the leeward side of Hope point. The steady cadence of the surf crashing on Hope Beach 350 feet below. The birds in the trees. And the peaceful silence.......Sights'n Sounds.
What makes this property unique
Sights'n Sounds on Hope estate is very private, yet convenient to town and Bequia's leeward beaches. We have not seen another home on Bequia which is furnished and equipped in quality that rivals Sights'n Sounds. The home is also designed to be family friendly and safe for young children.
Finally, there is no better staff on Bequia than Joy and Felix Hutchins, and Kelson. Joy will pamper you as if you were staying at the Four Seasons. Felix will insure that everything works and if you break it, he'll fix it. Felix actually built the house; really. So there is nothing you can break that he can't fix.
