Tour in eastern Sicily:
Avola land of sea and sun, art and gastronomy, famous for its wine and almonds. With its sea and the lakes cavagrande becomes an annual destination for tourists from all over the world.
Avola formerly called Abola, is an Italian town of 31. 342 inhabitants of the province of Siracusa in Sicily. The hexagonal faces the Ionian coast of eastern Sicily in the Gulf of Noto. Many are the testimonies of many artifacts, especially pottery and dishes, found in some graves in what is today the nature reserve Cavagrande at the Avola Antica, which was destroyed by a violent earthquake, along with other urban centers in eastern Sicily (including also Siracusa and Catania), because of what forced the surviving population to move in the large coastline below, eight kilometers away, and to re-establish Avola in the place where before there was only a vast and deserted esplanade overlooking the sea, so that Avola from a mountain village, he was transformed (by the earthquake) in a flat seaside town.
Among the particularly interesting in Avola monuments they were discovered dolmens, dating back to a period prior to that certainly siculo, discovered in 1961 in Borgellusa district, directly opposite the Civic. The building is apparently made up of an enormous table resting on two pillars, modeled following the natural contours of the rock, so extending to him the name of pseudo-dolmen. Human interventions that are visible both in expanding in geometrisation of the cavity, as well as in the shape given to the two side piers. The floor of the monument was made by removal from the inside of arenitico-sandy underlying materials, with the lower surface stratification.
On the waterfront you can also see the remains of the Roman villa. Avola in 'antiquity has been dominated
and invaded by various populations, such as Sicilian, the Sicilians, Romans, Normans, Arabs, Aragoneses.
The country's economy is mainly linked to agricultural products and crops, marginal is fishing. Renowned pastry is tied to growing in areas adjacent to the city of Noto of a particular variety of almond, the Pizzuta d'Avola. From Avola takes its name also the famous wine, Nero d'Avola, whose origin is linked to the town's vineyards and, although today it is mainly produced in other places, it makes Avola famous worldwide.
