About this property
Home is on the original 1926-1930 Route 66 alignment
This house is located 34 miles south of Springfield, Illinois; 85 miles North of St. Louis, Missouri; 8 miles off I-55 it is within walking distance from city square, in a nice neighborhood with friendly neighbors. This is a house that has been tastefully decorated with vintage furnishings, and touches of Route 66 memorabilia and we have information available to help make your trip a unique experience. Food and shopping are close by. Girard has a couple of train tracks on the edge of town that you hear occasionally. Whether you're coming to see historic Route 66 attractions, on family trip or business travel, bring your suitcase, we have the linens, towels and a fully equipped kitchen, so come relax for day, week or more. Maybe you want to enjoy the spacious back yard, covered front porch with swing, or the nice flower bed patio area to watch the hummingbirds when they are in the area.
The space is approximately 1600 square foot, over 85 years old. It was built before Route 66 was an attraction. There is ample parking on property. The woodwork in this home is awesome and the closet space is amazing for the period of time this home was built. The house is original, with just a kitchen remodel, first floor bedroom update and the bathroom spiffed up a little. Mainly filled with vintage furnishings but have added little touches of comfort. The dining room table is big enough for 8 if you add the extra leaf and chairs. The kitchen has table for four and everything you need to make your meals and lots of small touches to make you feel at home. There is NO Cable TV or WIFI so you can enjoy the ones you traveled with or maybe just sit and read a good book. There is plenty of games, cards and reading material to enjoy an experience of days of the past.

House was warm and toasty, even though it was below zero outside. I appreciate that the snow was cleared for parking and accessing the house, which is a treasure in itself. One of my favorite rentals.

Thanks for the review. Happy to try to accommodate kitchen essentials. We love the history of this house and our community.
A beautiful house, tastefully decorated with great attention to detail. It was very clean, and the kitchen had everything we needed. With the car, you could reach the supermarket in just a few minutes, and there were restaurants nearby as well. The contact with the hosts was excellent and friendly. We were really happy with our stay. Thank you so much!

We are so glad you chose to stay at the Madison House and you supported our local businesses while here. You are welcome to visit us again anytime.
Everything was just what we needed to meet our travel needs. We felt like we were at a family members home. We were lucky to encounter the first BIG snow of the season. That did not keep us from the wedding we came to town for. They left a shovel just in case. That helped make the day. Thanks for everything!

We are so glad you felt like family at our home. We were hoping that the shovel would not be necessary at all, the weathermen were wrong on the total amount of that snow. Thanks for your stay you are welcome here anytime.
The house was very nice. It made a wonderful place for family from out of state to stay that was just a couple of blocks from us at a very reasonable price. The owners were very nice and we will definitely be renting again when our family visits
