About this property
The Quarryman's Home
The Quarryman's home was built in Bloomington in 1930. The original charm remains with the home, including the working fireplace, the natural woodwork and antique hardware. The bright home is quiet & private, although very close to town & walking trails. The decor is rustic, modern, & includes treasures from walks in the woods & travels abroad. The Quarryman's Home is ideal for those whom appreciate the details & desire a personalized stay. It is clean, thoughtfully appointed, & cozy.
The inside communal spaces are built to invite conversation and relaxation with plenty of comfy places to sit, books to read, and an antique dinner table for gathering. The outside fire pit or the front porch swing is a favorite place to sit and watch the sky. The library consists of contemporary novels and photographic monographs that you could spend an afternoon flipping through.
Each bedroom is spacious, private, and outfitted with luxe bedding, lots of pillows, and has at least one window. A cursive typewriter sits in the front bedroom. Built-in shelves provide lots of bedtime reading options. Ceiling fans keep the air moving. Please note that one bedroom has a lofted bed. You can access the bed from stairs, but it is a little funky to manage. It is not an area for small children or boozers to sleep upon. There are two sofas in my home- both are comfortable sleep spots, but neither are pull-out style sofas with proper mattresses. Extra sheets, blankies, and pillows are provided.
The kitchen is outfitted with better than basic cooking necessities, including super sharp knives, Le Creuset pots, pans, vintage cast iron, handmade ceramic mugs, and enough dinnerware to feed a small army. The kitchen also has a KitchenAid stand mixer, a Cuisinart food processor & a Breville juicer. The gas range is delightful to cook upon. A microwave sits in the pantry for those of y'all non-cookers.
The garden beds produce tomatoes, herbs, and cucumbers in season. Potted herbs and plants sit around the house in the winter. An apple tree, pear tree, and mulberry tree sit on the property along with concord grape vines and blackberry bushes, asparagus, and a strawberry patch.
The Quarryman's Home is a perfect respite from the everyday.
Longer stays in my home are negotiable and welcomed.
Well-behaved pets are welcomed into the space, as I understand how important it is to have a comfortable place to sleep while traveling with an animal in-tow. I have a fully fenced in back yard that easily accommodates pets. Pet visitors must be pre-approved and they incur an additional fee due to the additional cleaning time that is required. Pet rules are basic "good human rules", and are: 1.) no pets on the furniture or bedding 2.) do not leave your pet alone in the house unless it is crated 3.) you are responsible for any damage your pet does to my home (scratches on doors, major floor damage, etc).
The Quarryman's home is located in the Clear Creek neighborhood of Bloomington. It is just a short walk to a local pizza parlor and ice cream shop. Additionally, there is a Kroger grocery 1 minute away. Great walking trails are 1/2 mile from the house. The largest lake in Indiana is a 6 minute drive southeast. And downtown Bloomington is just a few miles north. The IU campus is a quick and direct drive northeast. Uber and Lyft rides into town are inexpensive and quick. Bring your bike and cycle directly into town via the Clear Creek Trail and the B-Line Walking Trail.
My home is situated on a private half acre lot with a short driveway that accommodates a maximum of 4-6 vehicles.
I do require guests to buy property damage since VRBO does not protect hosts. If there are any questions about insurance, just reach out.

About the host
Hosted by Alexis Culver

I bought this sweet historical home in 2018 and live in it when I am not renting. It is delightful and satisfying to offer it up to out-of-towners, especially IU alum, visiting parents, and others curious of the Bloomington area.
Why they chose this property
I really focus on curating a special experience during your visit. My hope is that your stay at the home will be worry-free. My home is outfitted with antiquities, forest-finds, and a kitchen ready for cooking. I have original artwork hanging on the walls, furniture made locally, and I try to think of everything you might need during your stay. My home is super comfortable, especially gathered around the fireplace or back yard fire pit playing cards or reading books.
What makes this property unique
My home is not your typical VRBO rental. It is personal. It is lived-in. It's not an investment property that has been flipped to look like a hotel suite. It's an intentional space where you're invited to page through books, build a fire, cook a delicious meal, and look at stars. It's also a place with very reliable internet, a great desk workspace, and therefore is comfortable for longer stay for folks who work from home (as do I ). It's also in a relatively quiet section of town set apart from the college party scene. I appreciate the lack of college traffic, the convenience of a major grocery store 1 minute away, and the super private fenced-in back yard. It's a special home with great neighbors, and tons of character.
