About this property

Quiet, Cozy and Quaint Log Cabin Living!

Robins Roost is modern real log cabin living which is quiet, cozy and quaint. A 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with beds for 12 people, which includes 3 beds, 2 queen sofa beds and 2 fold out single beds. Close to the Royal Gorge (35 mins), fishing/white water rafting on the Arkansas River ( 15 mins), skiing at Monarch (1+hr), Hot Springs and spas in Salida and Mt Princeton Hot Springs are both within a short 1 to 1 to 1+ hour driving distance. There is access to public lands for exploring, hiking, and hunting. Enjoy Colorado outdoor living and adventures at its finest.

Robins Roost offers amazing views from the front porch. You can also sip coffee while sitting on the balcony outside the private loft bedroom or make s'mores sitting around the outdoor fire pit. All bedding, towels and basic toiletries are provided. Need to do some laundry? A washer and dryer is also available for your use. If you want to enjoy the fire-pit outdoors, you are welcome to bring your own wood. If you didn’t bring, there is some wood in the manger shed to use. Please use cautian and note any burn ban restrictions noted on the sign near Cotopaxi listing fire dangers.

You'll find the cabin accommodating, clean and well kept. I recently remodeled the downstairs bathroom to include a tiled, walk-in shower. Baseboard heaters in the bedrooms and basement along with a newly installed AC/Heat split unit help keep the living areas warm and cozy. You'll find everything you need to cook, including slow cookers. an air fryer, keurig coffee maker and pots and pans. Please keep pets off the beds and funiture or bring your own coverings as we try to accomodate both pet friendly and non-pet guests.

Inside you can enjoy a game of billiards on a full size pool table, or a game of darts or play board games. There are two smart TV's for your entertainment. Starlink provides fast and relaiable wifi and internet connection. Outside you'll find horseshoes or play a few rounds of frisbee golf on the course surrounding the cabin. And of course, bring your hiking shoes and hike to the top of Robins Peak and see incredible views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains to the south and pikes peak to the north. Please remember to drink lots of warter, it'll help prevent altitude sickenss if you're not used to the arid climate and altitude.

PLEASE NOTE! There are two Ring security cameras on the property. One covers the front driveway and entrance and the second one covers the side door entrance. I have installed signs under each camera to notify all guests and visitors.

Great for a weekend getaway

This was a great place for a weekend getaway for my wife and I. A nice drive down to the dunes while having great access to Canon City, Salida, Royal Gorge, etc. And Eric was a very communicative host.

Peace and Quiet

The stay here was awesome! So quiet all you heard was the wind in the pine trees and the hummingbirds flying by for a visit. The views were breathtaking. We’d sit on the deck and just relax and enjoy.

Relaxing Getaway

This property was absolutely gorgeous! It was exactly what we were looking for as an off the grid house. The sunrise coming up every morning perfectly warmed up the deck and everything there was perfect. Plenty of outdoor activities for the day and at night the house had plenty of games and stuff to do. Will definitely be returning to this property again!

This home and property is beautiful. We had an amazing time and enjoyed an early snowfall.

All the comforts of home. The beds are comfortable and the amenities were all top notch. The Host is so friendly, always accessible and helpful. We especially wanted to thank the neighbor who cleared the snow for us. This was an exceptional act. Loved the porch and wood stove. Lots of fun things to do.

Cabin get away

This is a beautiful place away from the city. My family loved the extra fun activities! Very clean and lots of extras to make the stay great. Be mindful that the cabin is a 25 minute drive up the mountain. Stay on the gravel road!! You will not be able to use your phone for directions. I would not recommend going in the dark when you are just checking in.

Very private and beautiful view

We’ve been renting on VRBO since payment was made by mailing checks; we love it! We like to leave a review to help future stays and the owner/caretaker. This place was great and very cozy. This may sound funny but this place had great spatulas and pots/pans…most places your eggs stick so bad and the old, melted spatula doesn’t help. A good selection of spices and leftover condiments from prior renters are also available. While the place is clean, it could use a deep cleaning. The basement really smells of pet urine; it’s not as noticeable on the main floor but is present when you walk in after being gone. I wiped down the kitchen table and the paper towel was brown. A lot of things seem to be coated in just years of use. The garbage departure instructions in the house may need to be updated as well. We would stay here again for sure…beautiful view and very private!

Great mountain cabin stay!

This was a perfect spot for us to spend a few days in the woods! We spent time in the area hiking and biking and retreated to the cabin otherwise. It was perfectly stocked, comfortable, and had great views of the area and wildlife! Communication was great. Will be back again!

Peace and quiet

We stayed for the month of July and we loved every minute! Peaceful is an understatement! We heard nothing but the wind and birds chirping. We hiked the property several times and enjoyed lying in the hammocks and listening to the breeze. We were able to get into Salida very easily for activities and groceries. Thank you Eric for your hospitality!

About the host

I lost Robin my best friend and marriage partner of 27 years to cancer in July 2019. This part of Colorado was our favorite place to visit and relax so I purchased this cabin as a permanent place to retreat and relax and for friends and family to come and "roost" for awhile.

Why they chose this property

If you're looking for a quiet place to get away, far enough away to escape and close enough to enjoy Colorado's adventures this is the place. A real log cabin with modern facilities that's not overly fancy or overly expensive but clean, cozy and welcoming.

What makes this property unique

The cabin is located 9.5 straight north of Cotopaxi. Take state road 12 (across the street from the Cotopaxi General Store) 4 miles on paved road. Turn left on Spruce Basis Rd just before the cattle guard (if you cross the cattle guard you've gone too far!) and travel 5.5 miles on county (gravel) road staying on Spruce Basin then Basin Dr. The county road is maintained. The driveway to Robin's Roost is short but may require a 4X4 to navigate uphill driveway during winter/snowy months.
