This home is rustic and a little "out of the way", so we recommend a vehicle, unless you enjoy wa...

We loved the privacy and the fact that it was right on the beach. The beach palapa for shade was perfect for relaxing/reading. There are multiple restaurants within walking distance and a grocery store down the road. The bed was comfortable and there are lots of windows to open for cross breezes to flow through. We didn't have a vehicle and Shan Les from Vacasa helped us get drinking water, etc. We enjoyed our stay and would go back again.

The beach house is well maintained and clean. However, beach is shared with another property and kayak is not well maintained, it was dirty and did not function. The life jackets were also dirty.

Just what we needed

It’s everything that Placencia is not. It’s quiet, rustic, quaint, and private. We loved it because we are not resort people and we felt very little connection to Placencia itself. We had a great time though. Sand fleas are bad everywhere there. Stay off the beach at around 330pm.

No AC and No Response... No Thanks

The house is located on a nice beach in a nice area of Placencia. We wanted to enjoy this house for that alone. But it was simply not enough to make up for the AC not working (absolutely repressive heat inside; tried sleeping outside before we had to leave the property in the middle of the night with heat exhaustion), nor make up for the one bathroom being down a steep staircase from the bedroom, and certainly not make up for Vacasa/property manager not even responding to us while we were having issues with the property then responding asking us for a favorable review!! This was truly the worst housing rental experience I've had but added a star for the great location. Stay away.

This property is managed by Vacasa and it's a nuisanse. When you're traveling you'd appreciate having all the information in one source. Unfortunately, in this case VRBO site merely redirects you elsewhere which is often inconvenient. The house was as e+xpected although we were unlucky to have a bit of surf that rendered the water totally murky. The locals recommended agains swimming because of the stingrays common in the area and danger of stepping on one when hothing can be seen. We still took a chance and my wife was stung by a jellyfish, which was rare we were told. Vinegar and hot water helped. Despite the wind, the nights were very hot and humid causing us to run the fans at full blast, somewhat interfearing with our sleep. Also, our last night the moskitos were especially voracious. We're all for living like a local but in the end kind of wished we had AC. Make sure you understand the house has no dedicated parking space while the car is virtually a must to get here. We ended up parking it on the street and it worked with no issues. On a plus side, the beach and panapa are super nice and comphy. There are several palm trees with tons of coconuts and you should be able to borrow a machete to murder a few.

Exactly as pictured

Adorable house, perfect view, great location. We had the best time here. The shower head was not great, the wifi didn’t work (and wasn’t resolved during our stay) and the shoreline was very littered which is sad for such a beautiful place. The beach out front of the house was pristine though. The kayak is a bonus. Saw some rays off the dock. Best morning coffee spot ever!

The private haven we were looking for!

Manatees and crabs right off the dock, many stunning sunrises and relaxing evenings. We appreciated being about 20min from town, it was very calm and quite but we were still within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. Staff was very communicative and helpful!

Wonderful Vacation

This marks our 9th visit to Maya Beach. Ara Macao Beach House was exactly what we wanted and needed. Having all essential kitchen items such as a coffee maker, mircrowave, stove and oven was super. The weather was warm but had sufficient fans and windows to have the wonderful Maya winds cool down the cabana. The area is quiet and having the dock to sit out on watching the pelicans dive for fish proved breathtaking. Julio had our bikes ready and provided a lock for us as we traveled up and down the roadway. Already planning our next visit.

Loved our vacation

The beach was beautiful and well maintained by the caretaker who raked and cleaned up every day. The house was cute and comfortable. Minor issues: This house is going to need some siding and window maintenance soon and the rainy season is going to take a toll. The mattress was very hard and uncomfortable (personal taste). An additional blanket would have been nice when the temperatures dropped a bit at night (it wasn't cold, but it feels odd sleeping with just a single sheet on top). Adjacent neighboring beach areas had lots of plastic garbage washed up (this is sad). We would have liked to have had more clean towels (stayed 6 days with 3 bath towels for the two of us).
