About this property

Vintage Timber Barn with High Sierra Views

Built In 1926, the Huff House used to be the warehouse for the village store until we renovated it in 2019. I love the high timber ceilings and great views of Mount Hough. The house is in the village of Crescent Mills (200 people) at an elevation of 3500' and looks to the mountains at around 7,200'.

The house has a large main room with 13' timber ceilings and a big slider that opens to the deck. There are two bedrooms, one king, one queen each with their own bathroom. The kitchen is modern and has a breakfast bar and dishwasher. There is a shared laundry room.

Crescent Mills is half way between Tahoe and Lassen and hiking and biking are great. From the house you can walk up the hill and find old gold mines, or drive up Mt Hough and visit Crystal Lake.

The house is close to the railroad which has about 6 freight trains pass through per day.

Crescent Mills has a golf course. Taylorsville (10 mins) has a rodeo and museum and swimming pool. You can go shopping in Greenville (6 min) or Quincy (20 mins). Lake Almanor (20 mins) is fun for water sports and Mount Lassen Park (1 hour) has geysers and volcanoes.

Charming, Simple, All You Need
My friend and I wanted to check out the fall foliage and do some hikes in Plumas County. We wanted to find a place with a good-sized kitchen so we could cook breakfasts and dinners and pack sandwiches for our hikes. This place was perfect for that. Roomy and comfortable and off the main road through town. A couple of freight trains passed through in the night along tracks that are a short distance from the property - but that's par for the course in this part of Northern California, and it was fine.

The one bottom sheet felt dirty, there was no top sheet on both beds. The mirror in the main bathroom had toothpaste spit still on it. There were no wash rags. We were charged a cleaning fee with the reservation. It should be refunded because it wasn’t used for cleaning. The site said entire house, it was a duplex. There was also a neighboring porch within 15-20’ of the bedroom. The walls were thin, there was a thumping laundry machine at 9:00 am Saturday morning that ran for 2-3 hours. The site mentioned a train going by. It didn’t say the tracks were under 50 yards away and that at 6:15am Sunday morning it blows it’s horn multiple times as it went by. I was never given a code until I actually got to the site. I will not return

Comfy no-frills get-away
Matt is a great host. The trains are neither that frequent nor that annoying. The kitchen has bare essentials. And the labels on everything, while they might annoy those who don’t want to be told by mother what to do, are very helpful to those of us who want to be considerate guests.

Rustic & Historical Cottage
This rental property is historical and has both rustic and modern elements. The homeowner was responsive and you can tell he cares for the property.

I split my time between the Bay Area and Plumas. I also own the store and the other Airnbnb on the property (Railway Cottage). I am an entrepreneur and originally from the UK.

Why they chose this property

We installed all new bathrooms, kitchens and flooring in 2019 and so now it feels so new yet so old. We retained the timber ceilings and wide store door and opened up the view by installing a massive 8x8 window.

What makes this property unique

Great location for exploring the mountains, lakes and rivers
Close to Lake Almanor, Mt Lassen, Quincy (High Sierra) and Belden.
