About this property

Cabin at Pickle Gulch- a charming cabin with mountain views.

The Cabin at Pickle Gulch is centrally located at a gateway to outdoor sports, skiing, hiking, biking and off-road trails, great restaurants and gambling in Black Hawk, and artistic/historical events in Central City. Ample parking is available on the property. The small cabin has hand-hewn oaken floors and craftsman-made counters. Central heat and air conditioning maintains a solid 68° (or your choice) even in the stormiest cold times or sunniest hot days. Large windows on all sides, and especially south-facing, offer long views of meadows, forest, hills, mountains, with blackout curtains for sleeping and privacy. At nearly 9000 feet, you will watch the changing high-altitude weather in comfort and amazement. There is cozy fireside seating by the smart television which offers you Dish cable including local Denver channels for news, sports, weather, plus. Fast Starlink internet allows you to work remotely, enjoy gaming, and use your own streaming services.
The kitchen is complete with all the basics you need to cook meals. The sun-room has a washer/dryer. The two bedrooms each have a queen bed. Organic hemp bedsheets are our choice, paired with comforters, extra blankets and pillows. Coffee of course. The bathroom has an open shower design and amenities.
Two decks, front and back, offer seating, the hot tub, and the barbeque grill. Beyond, a trail on the property lets the pups (on leash) or children walk and explore. The pond is under renovation at this time, (thank you for your understanding- we will finish when the ground unfreezes).
Wildlife is often heard and viewed because right up the gulch lies the Pickle Gulch campground and open spaces with mountain bike and off-road vehicle trails.
This is your spot for a romantic weekend or extended family stay. You have easy highway access to Scenic Highway 119. Take I-70 to zip up to Arapahoe Basin for skiing. Eldora Ski Resort, a great grocery store, and much more, is in nearby Nederland, 23 minutes away.

Short Staycation
Our stay was great! Easy to get-to location, nice views, and great property! The hosts were super responsive and helpful, and left a detailed "stay guide" to help figure things out. Based on nature access nearby, I would highly recommend visiting during the warm months. I would consider renting this location again if we stay in the area again!

Summer in Black Hawk
We really enjoyed the house and the surroundings. The house is very clean and beds ultra confortable. The kitchen is nicely organised and beautiful sunset views. Maybe it would have been even nicer to have a kettle to boil tea water and the coffee machine did not hold coffee warm very long. But those are very minor improvements to consider. We loved the big storage ottoman in the living room to help keep the area tidy. One of the bedroom has a relatively big storage space but the other bedroom has almost none. My husband managed to work from there and, very kindly, our host added a desk and a chair for him to work in the master bedroom. The Internet, though, is not very fast and streaming was not always easy (we had to give up some evenings) but as long as we were able to work which we were, we were happy. I really really liked the sun room to unroll my yoga mat! The outside was great for us and the children. I would have been more careful with younger children though. We found lots of nails and screw as well as a screw driver, an axe and a pick-axe on the grass. Our kids are older and careful so it all went really well. We really enjoyed the hammock but the 'grass' is still a work in progress. There is a chicken coop right by the house and the kids absolutely loved being around the chickens and we had a great way to get rid of our food waste without putting it in the trash... The house is a few minutes from Black Haw downtown and a newly open trail head (Hidden secret trail head). Nederland is 25 min drive and is a cute little town by the river with a beautiful water reservoir. We really enjoyed the pizzas from the pizzeria and the bagels from the bakery! We went on wonderful hikes almost all on the road from the house to Rocky Mountain National Park. Blue Lake in the Brainard Lake Recreation Area was one of our favorites. We also visited the old cemeteries in Central city to name just a few things that we explored. Definitely would recommend the place! (Our host in Black Hawk were great and always kept a great line of communication and I only put 4 stars out of fairness to some previous hosts in another rental that went the extra miles for us)

We love the mountains. In my younger days I summited all the 14-thousand- foot peaks in Colorado, climbed in the Cordillera Blanca (Peru), the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Dan plays the banjo, is a farrier, a blacksmith, and an artist who can do everything. His people are 5 generations of ranchers and miners from the Southwest corner of Colorado, my people are preachers and teachers from Nebraska and Wisconsin. “The mountains are calling, and I must go.” And we did. Hope you will too.

Why they chose this property

Gilpin County, Colorado, is a rural mountain community in Colorado's high country, known for scenic beauty, mountains, wilderness, forests, and history from the mining days of the late 1800s when it was "the richest square mile on earth." Gold!
