If you like privacy, peace and quiet and need a place to rest your head after working all day, this apartment is for you. Located in the back of the building, The Quietest Side, this private apartment has a full bed in a cozy bedroom, a compact but adequate bathroom with shower, and a roomy kitchen. Apartment 4 is a ground level apartment with its own entrance outside. It does have a couple of steps that lead up to the porch/deck right outside the apartment. There is a parking space right outside this one too. Guests enjoy the downtown location, and close proximity to Hillsdale College. Everything is within walking distance!
It is a self check in, keyless entry (room code is sent the night before check in). Check in is typically anytime after 4pm, and check out is by 11am. Owner Nancy and her assistant Rebekah both live nearby and can be reached via phone call or text if you need anything. You will find each of our team members (housekeeping included), whether it be in person or via phone, to be friendly and caring.
Built before the Civil war, this apartment house is almost 200 years old. As such, it has all of the charm, and quirks, that old houses bring. Formerly the home of Merton Fitzpatrick, one of the founders of the original Republican Party, the house has seen many generations of occupants and is being restored while still operating today. Six of the 8 apartment units are reserved for guests. The other two house long time tenants who love and understand Old Houses. We enjoy the eclectic decor (Which Nancy has collected when she goes antiquing) , and cozy "home away from home" feel this old house has. We hope that you will too!

The bed is a double at best but you just can’t beat the location.

Cute old apartment downtown Hillsdale
Comfortable, all I needed, cute little place. Wi-Fi was iffy but the bed was comfortable (creaky loud but comfy). The one thing I really missed was a comfortable chair for reading.
Cute little functional apartment. Nice porch to sit on with a nice day in the 70s and even watch the rain on rainy days.

Functional, basic, downtown adjacent
The vrbo is in a multi-unit housing property on the edge of a commercial and industrial neighborhood. The unit is basic and functional. It is two rooms plus a bath. There is no place to sit except the kitchen. It is an OK place to stay if your travel includes a lot of out and about. It's near the Hillsdale Post Office for those looking for more location information.

Poor condition
Blinds torn, ceiling coming down, nasty yard,
Mold smell in bathroom.
The housekeeper did a great job in cleaning.
Property itself needs repair.

Intimate apartment
Well located place to stay if visiting Hillsdale College. Has all you need on a first floor address. Information says good for a couple, but the bed is a full, not queen. So like being close and a non-active sleeper!
The only issue that I had was the check-in procedure. I never received the code to get in the house. Once I did, I wasn’t instructed on how to lock the door to leave. Nancy walked me through it. I suggested a sign on the inside to explain it.
It is old but clean and bed was cozy. If you need to get a hold of the property manager CALL don't message on the app if it the same day. She is very responsive to phone calls.
This place was cozy! It’s 3 blocks from Hillsdale College campus so it was so much better than driving back and forth to Jackson. I would certainly stay again!
I've stayed at this little apartment before, and it's location and easiness of parking (right outside the entry door), makes it perfect for my occasional trips back to the college I attended. Nancy always leaves snacks, coffee, and water, which is a wonderful bonus. It's a good place to have when you know your vacation is going to be busy and you just need a bed to rest. There are kitchen chairs but there is no comfy chair to lounge.
Definitely would not be staying here again. It was clean but that's about it. A challenge to communicate with Nancy after several vm and emails were sent. The bed is small, maybe a full and mattress sags. No plug in bathroom. The rest of the tenants do not keep this property very nice on the outside. There's a broken down lawnmower in the yard, an array of broken bicycles on the porch and rusty unusable patio furniture on the porch. A real disappointment.
We had our bathroom remodeled and needed an affordable place to stay and this was a great fit for our needs. The area is quiet and the apartment was clean. We had everything we needed. My husband enjoyed the snacks provided. Nancy was available for any questions we had.

Jenifer and husband were great guests, quiet and nice, and left our place in great condition.
They are welcome here anytime!
About the host
Hosted by Rebekah
About Owner Nancy: I am an artist, love old houses, interested in antiques, art, current events, politics. I am also an entrepreneur, and have had a number of small businesses. I love animals, rehabbing old houses, reading, working. I am actually a senior citizen, but feel like a 13 year old and relate very well to younger people. Lots of things left in life that I want to do and experience and learn. Favorite Food lately: my own cabbage soup! Favorite Music: Flamenco Guitar, Life motto: Feel the fear and do it anyway. Nancy has furnished the rooms of our old 1800's house with antiques she finds on her "treasure hunts". You will notice interesting and eclectic gallery walls that she has put together in each apartment, as well as her mosaic tile artistry in the kitchens, some dining table, end tables and mirrors (depending on apartment).
Nancy's assistant Rebekah (Bekah) does most of the customer relations work, reservations, and tech stuff for Nancy. She has worked with Nancy to help with the business since 2019. She will most likely be the one communicating with you here, via phone, and occasionally in person. Rebekah is also an artist, selling her art both online and in Hillsdale, as well as owner of a small local bakery business. She also enjoys old houses, antiques, estate sales, singing and playing guitar, animals, writing (especially poetry) , nature, knitting, pretty much anything arts and culture related. She is a board member of our local Historical Society and also does volunteer work looking after and teaching children (both art and historical living) in her spare time.
Why they chose this property
Located right in the "Heart of Hillsdale" , our downtown location is the perfect place to stay. Everything is within walking distance! Restaurants, quaint stores, banks, coffee shops, entertainment, grocery stores, salons and spas, popular college hang outs, beautiful parks, a biking trail, and more. It is a fun and convenient place to stay.
What makes this property unique
The ideal location and lower prices on nightly stays for your own private apartment can't be beat. The house itself is steeped in history- a pre civil war era home (what was once a mansion) from the 1800s, that has been turned into 8 full apartments. Guests who enjoy history, and quirky old homes with a story, will feel right at home here. Many people say it feels homey and cozy, and enjoy the eclectic decor. Owner Nancy (who is an artist) has also done most of the mosaic tile work inside the main part of house, and in each apartment (especially kitchen back splashes, islands, tables and sometimes mirrors and end tables in the place).
