I hesitate to write this review since it might mean someone will book the week I want to go! We loved it here. Exactly as advertised. If you know going in that there is no reliable cell service or wifi, you won't be disappointed and you can relax and disconnect. The beach is PERFECTION and the sunsets are incredible. Be prepared with bug spray- the owners are up front about that as well. But if you are willing to do a 3 minute drive through some pretty and private woods to have your own private beach that goes on for what seems forever, this place is for you.

We now have Wifi! Cell service can still be spotty.
Even though the home is a little outdated with furnishings it was clean and had plenty of room. The property is large and you do need a car to drive to the beach area due to the bugs being extremely bad in the woods. We were not able to find access to the private pond to fish, the area was overgrown. Overall this was set back in a quiet location and no one bothered us. We appreciated the use of their home while we visited local family.
Yes, I did notice the old furniture on the website but I moved forward with renting the home, trusting that the owner of the home was regulated by HomeAway.com rental inspectors and I was excited to the fact that it was very close to where my family reunion was taking place. The pictures on the website were an example of what you can expect. Upon arrival at the house, we could barely read the numbers on the mailbox, which was too small, and they did not appear to be reflective numbers that are desperately needed within that no street lamps, no reliable wifi or data area. Two groups of family members were lost for well over 2 hours trying to find the house. I had to travel out on the road and actually search them down because I had a hard time finding the house as well, and I knew that they would be lost, and indeed they were. I then went to a couple of different doors on the home to figure out how to get into the house. I discovered a lockbox hanging off the doorknob near the rear of the home but I had no code to same. I then spent another 15 minutes or more trying to get a signal to send a text, email or phone call to the owner of the house and to get the code. I finally got a signal on the road and I called the owner who immediately said he just got my text. This tells me he understood that it was time for us to go into the house and he was most likely monitoring his phone or email. He gave me the code with a very spotty phone connection. And he told me . . . yeah, that is a very spotty area for phone signals. Which made me immediately think, then why in the world didn't you simply send me a text or an email of the door code at 4 o'clock (check-in time) or before my arrival time. Curt was pleasant to chat with as he proclaimed that he lives 16 minutes away, and if I needed anything he would come right over; that language made me feel comfortable. Once in the home, I discovered the place to be very hot, clean but out of date. I also discovered a guide to the home in the form of a book on the dining room table. The book seemed as old as the furniture, pages were falling out, the sleeves where the pages were kept were turning colors, and the information on local stores and restaurants were confusing. This book gave us information that I thought should have been on the website. Curt suggested that I sign the guest book and leave a note. I never found a guest book. The rental manual clearly defined that we had to be out of the house by 10

Wonderful waterfront retreat
Wonderful waterfront retreat with thoughtful hosts. Spacious and cheerful with bright sunroom with views of the acreage. We saw a buck, bunny, butterflies, and several varieties of birds. Because of the large size of the land, the water is a distance from the house but it is a short drive or longer walk. Due to large amounts of rain the week we visited, the water was over the beach but we enjoyed the gorgeous land. The decor is not fancy, but extremely comfortable. The hosts have provided games, toys, movies and satellite TV. There is a small game room with Foos ball.

Quiet, quiet and more quiet!
We enjoyed our stay in this fully equipped house. The property is lovely and the private beach is just the best. Assateague National Seashore is just a short drive away, as is Ocean City if you need noise and tourists. Local produce was abundant so we ate well. No internet or cell service was a blessing and a curse since it was hard to get information about restaurants and activities. Thank goodness for the central air conditioning because it was really hot in MD.

Thank you for your kind review. While it is true the home does not have wi-if internet service, it is inaccurate to say there is no cellular service. Admittedly cell service is weak, but generally a signal can be achieved by stepping out of the house. Such is the inconvenience of visiting a rural setting!

Very cool place to get away from everything.
It's a nice house with private beach access that you can drive to. It's really not near anything so I loved just swimming, crabbing, fishing, and looking for pottery shards. The bugs can be bad but on the beach we were fine till late evening. My son loved the water and since he's only 2 the light surf was a plus. Also caught a composed ray that had to be 40+ pounds which made my day. Overall loved it and will try to come down again.

Private and laid back, just as described
The description is accure for this property. I appreciate the owner letting us know we were going during a potentially "buggy" time of year. We found the bugs were not an issue here during our weekend. I was impressed by the owner's integrity. We had three generations- teens, parents and grandparents. Alll found isomething of interest. Kids loved the beach (and driving or biking through the woods.) Well maintained marina with free boat launch is close by. Fishing is great off the bank, by the jetty, and out on the river! (We didn't try the pond.) Nice selection of DVD's, magazines and books. Having the use of a washer was helpful as I got all my clothing dirty before we left. Owners have a book with area information. The sunroom provides a quiet area for relaxing when the TV is on. A trip to nearby Princess Ann includes a ride on the Whitehave Ferry which operates from 7-5:30. If it is not during those hours plan on going the long way! The area would be great for riding bikes to explore. We only stayed for a weekend but it was enough to relax. I hope to return for a week down the road. There was plenty to do in the area but just hanging around was wonderful.

About the host
Hosted by Curt and Amy Watkins
Owners: Curt and Amy Jo Watkins. We fell in love with Chesapeake country when a job opportunity brought us to Maryland in 1996.
Why they chose this property
We were fortunate to find and purchase a unspoiled waterfront property on the Bay and lived in the home for 10 years until our family grew and we moved 'to the city' to be closer to work and schools. We loved the bay front setting so much we held onto 'our vacation house' and are happy to share the natural beauty of the property with our guests.
