About this property
Room R at The Dutra Inn - Little Italy
Summary:
“This room always makes me nostalgic. It’s not like I’ve stayed here before—I mean, maybe in a past life. But every time I turn at the top of the steps, just like that, the nostalgia hits me hard, deep in the cerebellum.
Room R will do that to you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been to San Diego a billion times before, or never. I like to think it’s the pull of my grandpa (we called him Popo) from the photograph in the far corner. Head of the room he’s never been in. Leo on a white horse. Both of our grandfathers were epic grandfathers, worthy of stories as good as the ones they told us. This Room, then, is our tribute to them. Big, full of fantastic tales, and still perfectly familiar.”
What You'll Find in Room R:
–A welcome drink on us
–The Malin + Goetz products we have at home
–Chemex and local beans from Dark Horse Coffee Roasters
–Small dining and living room areas
–Tuft & Needle bed with Parachute linens
–The doors open for fresh air, but there is no patio available in this room
–$20/night parking available behind the building by request
The Space:
Two Quirks to Note:
–Once inside, there are 2 sets of stairs up to the bedroom and living area
–Because of the large street-facing windows, you may experience light and noise at night; we wouldn’t recommend this room for light sleepers
About The Dutra:
The Dutra was our home for 8 odd years before we decided to share this weird little building with the world. Now it’s a 5-room mini inn and an architectural assembly of salvaged and found materials located in downtown San Diego.
The Neighborhood:
If you’re still deciding where to stay, allow us to advocate for Little Italy. Locals like us know that Little Italy is bar and restaurant central: where to go if you want a well-made tiki drink or a fancy steak dinner in San Diego.
It’s also centrally located within the city: just a 5min drive from the airport and a 10min drive to Balboa Park, Gaslamp, North Park, Hillcrest, and beaches.
Getting Around:
The loft is conveniently located in the heart of San Diego’s Little Italy neighborhood. The area is extremely walkable (and bikeable) — and you’ll be just a few blocks away from the some of the best restaurants in the city & a few blocks away from the gorgeous San Diego bay front.
Other Things to Note:
The Dutra does not allow smoking or pets in room and on the patios. (Though Pet Rocks are permitted.) If you choose to break “the rules,” we charge an extra $500 cleaning fee. One necessary point about our patios: all are private, except for the common lawn on the fourth floor. It’s the one with tiny tub, you can’t miss it.
We welcome you to have (up to 2) friends over to our place until 9pm. We love parties, but for big groups or late nights, we ask that you check with us before you arrive. Our walls are a little thin, so your tap dancing, loud seances, bongos, and even your lively conversation can carry. The same goes for photo or film shoots. Please note that, in both cases, you may be charged an extra location or event fee.
Every stay at The Dutra comes with instant new neighbors. “The rules” are just in place to make sure everyone has the best stay. We can’t wait to have you visit!
Interaction with Guests:
We live next door, and are available anytime during your stay. Our goal is to make sure you have a wonderful San Diego trip.
