Everything was lovely.
The White House is a beautiful cabin with all the rustic charm. It was quiet and private.
All amenities were great. Cabin was very cozy - we went over New Years with our dog and it was plenty warm. The location is quiet and isolated, but a very close drive to nearby towns with lots of options.
Really cute, clean little place to unplug and unwind. Everything I needed was there. Communication with Gordon was great too, and the welcome bottle of wine was a bonus.

The property was private and cozy. The large outdoor lawn and deck area gives options for enjoying the outdoors and the cozy cabin was relaxing.
What an awesome place! We had a fantastic stay here, loved the large deck, yard and trails nearby. The cabin was so neat and very cozy, top of our list if/when we return to Apple Hill. Thank you!
We loved this little cabin!! It was clean and well appointed and Gordon was an amazing host! We hiked the trails on the beautiful property, enjoyed the nearby wineries and appreciated the quiet. If I could give 6 stars I would, we will be back!

Bridget,
Thanks again for visiting my little get-away!
I look forward to you visiting again! :)
This place is absolutely amazing!! It is on the small side so just be efficient but it has so many cool features, especially the shower, which I had in my own house. The location is central to wine tasting, hiking, or just relaxing. We had a very relaxing time.
Beautiful and serene setting that created a picturesque getaway. Buffered by a creek with bushes and trees that surround a lawn which further enhances a quiet retreat atmospere. Hours can be spent on the back deck with friends doing their own wine tasting. Centrally located to all great local hotspots.
We had such a relaxing weekend at the white house. such a serene, special property with so much to enjoy nearby. The cabin was in fantastic condition and so cozy - and having amazing cider and donuts in our backyard was just icing on the cake. We’ll be back soon!

This is our second time here, we really love it!! Gordon remembered the kind of wine we liked. The White House is a peaceful and romantic getaway. We spent most of our time outside, the deck is large, the furniture comfortable and the lights at night are amazing. Don’t hesitate to book some time here, you will not regret it
This property was exactly as described. We enjoyed the huge grassy yard and big deck with fire table, speakers and over head back yard lights. The cabin was quaint and well stocked. We liked the horse stall bathroom shower and open beam ceilings. Location, location, location! Easy to get to wine tasting, restaurants, or just relaxing with a glass of wine on the deck.
My stay at the Miner’s Cabin was rewarding and relaxing. I have family who reside in the Apple Hill area who I visit each year. In the past, I have stayed at a nearby motel, but this year I decided to look into a VRBO. The cabin provided a far superior experience. The accommodations were clean and comfortable. The outdoor deck provided a peaceful place to enjoy the natural beauty of the landscape and a glass of wine. I look forward to returning to the cabin on future visits!

Thanks for visiting, I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your stay! I look forward to your return.
For anyone who knows the history surrounding this part of the country, gold was discovered arounf 1849 and it changed thousands of peoples lives. So to actually live in a real miners house, well you couldn't have asked for a better place. Thank you Gorden for keeping history alive. By the way the bathroom is unbelievable, hats off to you!

Traffic noise
Beautiful surroundings. Decorated nicely, ambiance was perfect. Bed was comfortable. Couldn’t go outside to eat breakfast, cause sprinklers drenched the porch. Sprinklers hitting window while sleeping, on corner lot of two busy roads, you will need ear plugs to drown out trucks and motorcycles. Otherwise we had a great time.

Kamela,
Thanks for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that the sprinklers woke you up and got the furniture wet. As noted in the email we send everyone, the sprinklers do come on during the weeknights (not on weekends) and can get the furniture wet on the deck. I'll see if there is something we can do to minimize this. With respect to the road noise, that can occur at times and is likely more frequent during the weekdays. I'm not sure what else we can do to minimize or eliminate this. I hope you will consider coming back again someday.

This was our second stay at this adorable miners cabin. We had such a nice stay the previous year that we wanted to come back again. The win here is the property and location that this cabin is situated on. It is a completely private setting with a really nice outdoor space on the back deck to relax and enjoy a glass of wine with the fire table and fairy lighting that extends over the many acres of green grass and forest. The cabin is extremely clean and has every amenity that you need to be able to cook and store food and drinks. We visited several local breweries while we were there that were no more than a mile away from the cabin. Easy booking, good communication with host and an awesome weekend getaway!!

About the host
Hosted by Gordon Helm
I've been a vacation rental host for over 25 years. I started with a condo in Hawaii and now have this little cabin in the town I grew up in. I try to put myself in "your shoes" and try to make things as enjoyable and pleasureful for my guests as I possibly can. I do realize everyone is different, so things may not always be perfect. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to improve your stay! We've worked hard to make this old home as comfortable as possible and with amenities that fit with the rustic charm of the home while provide our guests with comforts that obviously never existed when the home was originally built in 1937.
We are just a few minutes away and are available to answer questions by phone or text and have a neighbor who can be there in a moment's notice, if needed. (Assuming he is home.)
Please consider staying awhile at our romantic get-away, Meadow Creek Cabin.
Why they chose this property
This house has been in my family since the 1960s and was the former residence of the Barkley Ranch caretaker. The house was originally built in 1937 as a miner's cabin for those who worked at the nearby mines. After sitting empty for close to 50 years, I decided it was time to turn the house into a special retreat for guests and ourselves when not being used by others. We completely remodeled the interior but kept the rustic feel while adding modern amenities. The exterior remains the same with an added deck that is larger than the interior of the cabin, giving visitors a spacious area to relax and enjoy what the countryside has to offer.
What makes this property unique
This romantic getaway is located in the heart of Apple Hill. Rainbow Orchards is across the street and offers the best made-to-order apple cider donuts in the morning. Jack Russell Brewery is a little over 1/2 mile away and offers a relaxing venue for an afternoon of beer, wine, and/or cider tasting. There are over 50 farms, 70 wineries, and a multitude of other things to see, do and explore here in El Dorado County!
