About this property
Impressive Old Stone House, between Bergerac and Sarlat
A delightful and spacious one bedroom house situated on the edge of the traditional village of Coux et Bigaroque. This a perfect holiday getaway for couples looking for a relaxing place to escape to.
The entrance leads you into a good sized, newly refurbished kitchen/diner with original beam over the door. A beautiful, bespoke oak staircase leads to the first floor where you will find the generous double bedroom and shower room. A large lounge is also located on the first floor with views over the pool and gardens.
Cool off in the private swimming pool surrounded by extensive terracing ideal for sunbathing, dining al fresco or watching the sunset with an evening aperitif. For those who prefer a shady option there are numerous trees to relax under or help yourself to the bounty of fruit on offer from the cherry, apple, pear, fig and nut trees.
A two minute stroll will take you to the heart of the village where you can buy your breakfast croissant from the magasin de producteurs, alongside locally produced food. The village boasts two good restauarnts where you can enjoy a three course meal, with wine for a reasonable price You will also find a bar, Post Office and a cave (selling excellent wine). In the summer months, farmers supplying the magasin hold a marché gourmand where their delights can be sampled (both food and wine) accompanied by live music. Sit down at one of the long trestle tables and enjoy the convivial atmosphere with the locals and other holiday makers.
The owner lives on site and will be there to welcome you and to help in any way possible on arrival. Then you will be left to enjoy your holiday, but if you need anything, the owner will be happy to help.
The house is ideally located to take advantage of all the area has to offer. If the outdoors is for you, then you are in the right place. From the bottom of the garden you can pick up walking routes which take you through the rolling countryside. For cyclists, again there are marked trails which can be picked up from the bottom of the garden (ladies and gents bikes available). Within walking distance is the River Dordogne which has a small plage (lifeguard in summer) as well as opportunities for those keen anglers. If messing about on the river is for you, canoes or kayaks can be hired in the next village.
This area is renowned for stunning castles, many of them dotted along the river, many within easy access from the house. If shopping is more your thing, there are a number of lively, colourful markets nearby with stalls laden with tempting local delicacies.
