About this property
Ancient and modern stylishly combine in this beautiful Church in Snowdonia
It’s probably true to say that there’s nowhere else quite like St Curig’s in North Wales. Ancient and modern stylishly combine in this beautiful home set within a church in the mountain village of Capel Curig.
Where else can you sleep beneath a carved stone pulpit, enjoy a hot tub under the stars or play table tennis beneath a fabulous 19th-century mosaic ceiling? And all with lovely views of Snowdonia's mountains from every window. This was the vision Alice had when she first came to the village twenty-five years ago and decided to convert the church into her home. The story of the conversion, a rollercoaster ride through planning regulations, builders and love affairs was described in Alice’s fortnightly Sunday Times column.
The church has two four-poster double en-suite bedrooms, two twin en-suite rooms, another twin and a quirky family room that sleeps four. We also have a couple of trundle beds for children that can go in any room and a sofa bed in the main living area for larger family groups. The kitchen is large and well equipped with a table that seats 16. The downstairs seating area has a grand piano, pool table, table tennis, three sofas and wood burner.
The property has a 3/4 acre walled garden and a hot tub that looks towards the beautiful Snowdon Horseshoe which is great after a long day in the mountains.
Guests can either be entirely self-catered and self-sufficient at the church or can opt for a bespoke package. If guests would like it's possible for them to have a fully catered stay with organised family activity packages or team-building exercises for work colleagues that make for the most memorable adrenaline-packed holidays.
We offer a fully cooked breakfast service or DIY continental drop-off baskets each morning. Packed lunches are available or delicious buffet-style lunches. If guests want a formal dinner then we have seven local chefs who can cater for any taste and even a sommelier for special occasions. We also have after-dinner speakers guaranteed to inspire corporate groups.
The church also arranges a host of indoor activities such as life drawing, yoga, meditation, jewelry making, photographic workshops, cocktail mixing, or massage and beauty treatments. We even have a party bus that can be hired to take guests out clubbing in Liverpool for the night! Other experiences to enjoy include live musicians for an intimate concert or arranging a film to be made about your trip or a photoshoot in our pop-up studio or outdoor in the beautiful Snowdonia scenery.

About the host
Hosted by Alice Douglas

Alice is the main person behind holidays at St Curig's; liaising with guests, meeting them on arrival, organising activities and catering preferences. She is also on hand 24 hours a day should this be needed. She also works occasionally as a journalist and writer and has over twenty years of experience in this field. Prior to moving to Wales, she worked in television as a director, producer and actress.
Steve (Alice's partner) is a photographer and filmmaker who has worked for the national press for 25 years and has recently directed a documentary about the climber Eric Jones for the BBC. Tybalt their son, assisted him on this project as a climber and cameraman. Tybalt also became the youngest crew member to sail the Northwest Passage when he was fifteen and is currently writing a book about this voyage. Steve and Tybalt organise most of the adventure activities and workshops at the church.
