Town: Whitby is one of the most popular locations in North Yorkshire. Situated close to the River Esk it spans up the coast amongst some of the region's finest scenery. The town is rich with historical landmarks and the coastal waters give way to fossils which you can dig up on your own or buy from local vendors. The well-preserved architecture, such as Whitby Abbey, has appeared in some very famous movies and television series. Now lying in ruins, Whitney Abbey is a local landmark that towers almost two hundred steps above the historic St. Mary's Church. Local lore speculates that Dracula himself was laid to rest on the church grounds. In addition to the Abbey, the town itself has a large amount of shopping, fine dining, and theatres to keep you occupied during your tour of this lovely seaside resort.
