Quiet, Comfortable Home w/Great Location
We loved our stay at Alex and Nancy’s - the house beautiful and had plenty of room for all eight of us and the pups. The upgraded bathrooms were amazing with heated floors and towel racks. The beds were very comfortable and the house was stocked with everything we could possible need, we especially loved the coffee maker and Breville oven! The surrounding area offered so much to do - biking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, shopping and Storyland! The oversized porch, fire pit, and hot tub was perfect for relaxing and catching up at the end of the day. Alex and Nancy were fantastic hosts, very responsive and helpful, but not ever-present as some previous hosts have been. We hope to get back to NH soon and would definitely stay here again.

When can we come back?
The kids want to make this a yearly time away, the grands think it is theirs! We would love to visit in the summer and fall too! House was great for a big family, plenty of space to be together and plenty of space to be apart! Kids and grands snow tubed, down hilled skied, snow boarded, horse carriage rides, nice walks and the olds did cross country and long walks and after those activities there was the huge hot tub and a lovely meal! Great time had by all!

Great cabin on the lake
We were lucky enough to be able to rent this cabin for Thanksgiving week. Aside from having all the room we needed for the family (the pictures don't do the cabin justice), it had a perfect kitchen for cooking Thanksgiving dinner. It was by far the best equipped rental we've had. You could be as remote as you wanted and still have good access to groceries. There were a number of nearby hiking trails for working off the usual too much food that goes with the holiday. It was just right for our family gathering! Quite the perfect late fall venue for unplugging in the woods.

Chocorua cabin
Great base for hiking and relaxing afterwards. Comfortable, and in a great location. Even though there were just the two of us, this cabin would be ideal for families and large parties.

Best Family Getaway!
We had so much fun for the four days spent here. There were seven adults (with dogs), and we all had an amazing time. The house is beautiful and had everything we needed. The beds were so comfortable that one of our group took pictures of the down comforter tags because she said she had never slept so well! The house is set in the woods and we were able to take short walks to view Mt Chocorua, hang out outside and walk the trails right in the area. The setting is absolutely gorgeous, yellow leaves on the trees everywhere--quite magical looking. We were able to sprawl out comfortably, had a blast playing some of the games provided in the house, and being city dwellers, enjoyed just looking at the stars at night. The home is short driving distance to other sights so we were able to explore many sights during our short stay. Everything in this home is designed for the comfort of people staying there, and the only complaint we had was that we had to leave. The house is beautifully designed and every detail is so carefully planned in order to make guests have a lovely experience. To say we enjoyed ourselves is an understatement, and we would certainly love to come back!

About the host

Hosted by Alex Moot

Host profile image
My family has owned this NH property for over 50 years. We use our Chocorua cabin on weekends and occasional weeks throughout the fall, winter, and spring. From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, we switch over to our Chocorua summer house and rent out the cabin.

My wife and I live in the Boston area. We have two grown kids who spent many weekends while growing up in Chocorua swimming, kayaking, hiking, fishing, and skiing.

Why they chose this property

Our cabin is located near Chocorua Lake on a 65-acre property off a driveway in the woods. Guests are welcome to wander and explore the property.

From the cabin, it's a short 2-3 minute walk to our family's private swimming area on the Little Lake and only a five-minute walk to the Narrows Bridge at the southern end of Chocorua Lake (known locally as the "Big Lake") which has an amazing view of Mt Chocorua and the Sandwich Range. Or you can walk 10 minutes on a trail through the woods to a beautiful, secluded cove at a small dam where the lake drains into the Chocorua River.

Nearby Chocorua Village has a few businesses and attractions. Tamworth Village is a seven-minute drive and is an active small town with lots of attractions and activities for adults and children.

What makes this property unique

No motorboats are permitted on Chocorua Lake. The lake is about a mile in length and a half a mile across at its widest part. The Chocorua Lake Basin watershed is 13.2 square miles of mostly protected forest.

Thanks to the efforts of the Chocorua Lake Conservancy, almost all of the Chocorua Lake Basin is protected through conservation covenants and easements which have preserved wooded buffers around the lake, so the lake is largely unchanged from 150 years ago.

Chocorua Lake is classified as an “oligotrophic lake” and has pristine water quality and is ideal for swimming and trout fishing. Such lakes are characterized by high water clarity, low nutrient concentrations, minimal levels of aquatic plant “weed” growth, and low algae concentrations.

Visitors and local residents encounter no billboards or other commercial signs along this three-mile stretch of Route 16, nor do they see any houses along the shores of Chocorua Lake. Those who go boating on the lake can hardly see any structures around it.

The Narrows Bridge is located at the south end of Chocorua Lake and crosses over the outlet into Little Chocorua Lake. The rustic character of the Narrows Bridge, its beautiful hand-cut cedar railings, and its picturesque setting make it one of the most photographed scenes in New England. The bridge's setting captures an unparalleled view of Chocorua Lake and Mt Chocorua.

Mount Chocorua (3,490 ft) dominates the view from the Narrows Bridge. The AMC reports that Mt Chocorua is one of the most photographed mountains in the world. Mt Chocorua is one of NH's most frequently hiked, well-known, and easily recognizable mountains. It has a substantial network of trails; several trails are very heavily used, but it is usually possible to avoid crowds (until you reach the summit) by taking less popular trails.
