Amazing view, beautiful view of Big Island in the moonlight. Quiet, relaxing and enjoyed looking out over the meadow filled with butterflies. Perfect stay for the two of us, Mahalo!
We had a great time staying here. I really loved seeing the cows graze. This was the perfect location for us to rest after driving the road to Hana and then start our morning hikes before the crowds rolled in.
Cottage was perfect for what we were looking for! Definitely the best place to stay in order to get away from the touristy areas of Maui. We enjoyed every moment in the cottage!
Beautiful little cabin just off the road only 5 miles from Hana and 5 miles from the Kipahulu part of the national park. Best ocean view, saw sunrise, sunsets and several rainbows. Peaceful except for occasional traffic noise.
Property is small but everything you need. Definitely a very private country feeling with amazing views. Very relaxing, this property is close to the road but traffic is not very busy.
This property helped make our stay in Hana perfect! The view is amazing! The home had everything we needed, it was very compfortable and clean, and in a great location. We could not spend enough time out on the lanai. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip.
This place has an amazing view and has such peaceful energy that calms the soul. The birds are wonderful to listen to every morning. We loved the rain, wind , clouds and saw the brightest rainbow. Last night was the most beautiful sunset that we’ve seen here
We loved looking out over the water with cows grazing in the field in front of us. Very Clean and up to date decor. Well stocked with everything needed. Perfect private getaway for two. Great place to stay and explore Hana and surrounding areas. Would highly recommend to others, as we already have.
Amazing tranquility, breathtaking view from the lanai. We loved the birds singing at 6, the rain, full moon and just watching the clouds and light change. Definitely food for the soul! Michelle was very gracious! Thank you for another memorable trip, we’ll be back!
What a beautiful little cottage . We where able to see the lava flow on Mauna Loa at night and the rain come in and pass by during the day. The cows came to visit in the afternoon. Will definitely come back
First of all, the view from the lanai is incredible. The town of Hana is quite charming. As there’s not a lot of food options we cooked dinners in and dined on the lanai. The place was very clean and the surrounding area was very quiet and peaceful. We were there during a massive thunderstorm and got quite the show. Great place! 10/10 would come back!
The setting for this quiet cabin is the view. An expansive view of the ocean and the ranch is seen thru floor to ceiling windows. Interesting original Art on the walls, a big comfy bed, great reading material, and a quiet neighborhood. We dine on the large lanai in the evening, and ate breakfast there in the morning. We left feeling renewed and connected. The location is convenient to the Hana Highway and many great destinations along the way. I highly recommend this cottage in heaven.
The cottage provides a feast for the senses and balm for the soul. The sound of the surf, the songs of the birds, the lowing of the cattle, and the clicking of the gheckos. They set the scene for a beautiful and relaxing tropical experience.

About the host
Hosted by Michelle Horen
My name is Michelle and I manage this heavenly cottage for an old family friend, Chuck. This cottage is a hidden gem which I hope you get to experience for yourself! I enjoy interacting with guests of the cottage. Their gratitude is a constant reminder of how lucky we are to call this place home.
Why they chose this property
Many of our guests return annually. They all say the photos don't do the place justice. Everyone declares the view spectacular. There are 70 acres of government preserve between the cottage and the shore. Even so, when the whales are here (Dec-Apr), you can hear them splash. Cattle and a few horses abound in the preserve, and you can watch their calf's frolic. A thoroughly restful place. The serene views and private nature of the cottage offer a sanctuary of kinds for guests.
What makes this property unique
Koali Ranch Cottage started out as a vacant lot set aside for a school house. In 1955, the Territory of Hawaii decided that it did not need a school there and auctioned it. Chuck's parents were successful bidders. The Territory insisted that the house be erected within a year. The cottage was designed by local architect John Tatum, working with island famous Val Ossipoff.
