Horses and cattle free range. Felt like a real ranch. Saloon on honor system. Great country breakfast. Very congenial hosts.

Property was unique.
Would have been perfect but there was nobody there to greet us.
The restaurant/bar was closed.
No notice by host.
No instructions left for us.
No breakfast that was supposed to be included.
Had to leave property to look for a restaurant- it’s far from anything. Got caught in a bad thunderstorm.
Considering asking for a refund.

If you are looking for a relaxing and quiet place to get away this is pretty good. There is quite a drive to get in, but it is stunning. Free range cattle, horses, deer are visible.
I stayed in unit 3. It was clean but felt a little old - no big deal. When I arrived, I was not sent a code but the neighbor told me it was unlocked.
The saloon was a hoot. Live music and great conversation with Montie (former World Champion Rodeo personality).
They had breakfast at 8:00 am, I did not attend.
Overall, I enjoyed my two days

We loved all the friendly staff and other guests. Enjoyed the saloon with pool table and games. They had some beer and liquor, but wish we would have brought mixers. They served breakfast in the ranch house. It was the most wonderful experience. Great home-cooked food, and conversation with hosts and other guests. We loved to see the calves walking around the ranch. We were able to pet one. We would have loved to stay and ride horses that day, but had to get back on the road. The cabin was a favorite of the whole two week trip! Seemed like brand new bedding on the twin mattresses. Massage chairs, rockers, and nice porch area. Keeping this place in mind for future vacation- need to stay longer and enjoy this amazing place.
The cabin itself was cozy, quiet and clean and the surroundings were peaceful and tranquil, as advertised. However, beyond that, there were several things that had a negative impact on our stay. It was clearly stated under amenities that breakfast was included. My elderly parents arrived first and were told there was no breakfast in the "off-season". So, they were left, well out of town, with no food.It was also stated that there would be a washer and dryer. Nope. Neither one.It would have been helpful to know that the bathroom doors were extremely narrow, as we discovered my mom's walker would not fit into the bathrooms. The evening we arrived (Wednesday) there was a strong smell of sewer. It took until Friday midday to get the pipes flushed.out and alleviate the odor.On our first night, we went to lock up, and the door handle broke off so we could not secure our cabin. They came to fix it the next day, but the first time we used it, it broke again. We notified our host but no effort was made to fix it during the next 3 days. Since we had to make our own breakfast, we made toast. because we didn't want to cook or do dishes on our getaway. Unfortunately, every time the toast popped up, the smoke alarm went off, disturbing those who were still sleeping. The toast was NOT burned The rocking chair in the cabin was broken and could not be used, but they did bring us another chair. The footstools were missing screws, so my 85 year old father turned them over and fixed them. No dis
Had a great one night stay and horseback ride!
Hope to return and stay longer next time. Everyone is very friendly and the property is wonderful. Thank you!
We stayed in one of the cabins here, and it was awesome. The cabin was perfect for what we needed. The country is beautiful. The owner was great to work with, too. Great place to stay if in the area! Hoping to go back next year
A couple of months ahead of time I asked about horse riding and was given the prices and info. 3 days prior I texted host about about arriving 2 days early and received no answer. I called 2 days prior and host said we could arrive and stay in a different cabin for 2 nights then move to our booked cabin. Then an hour later host called saying she didn’t know cabin was booked and we could come 1 night early. Host also let us check in early on the day of arrival. Seemed accommodating. Upon arrival no people were in sight. Ad says it is a working ranch and we didn’t see anyone until night time in saloon. The ranch owner invited us to dinner in main house. The cabins were clean and nice and seemed close to info. Water pressure was low. Info in the cabin said to request horse trail rides at breakfast etc. First breakfast we requested horse riding and staff said they would have to ask host. Second breakfast we asked and didn’t receive answers. The entire 2 night visit we didn’t meet host. We were to stay 5 nights however we decided to check out as we had an ok time at saloon at night. There is nothing to do during day and was not able to ride horses as we asked. We asked to help out around ranch and was not able to. It is advertised as a working ranch and help out as you want and we were not seeing that nor able to do that. That was disappointing. Breakfast was good however cook complained about people taking too much and she couldn't keep up. She said nobody cares about anybody around here. She also said cowboys should eat first. We thought she was not professional for saying that. The cowboys make it known that they stay separate from B&B guests. Upon wanting to check out early I texted host and she called me and I told her about experience and she refunded 2 nights. Overall it was a relaxing visit just not much in area to visit and do. Thanks for the opportunity to stay.

It is truly unfortunate when a bad review is provided for reasons out of our control. I am really sorry you had a bad time, Tonya, we very rarely get a bad review and 99.99% of our guests love it here and return for more!
Unfortunately, we were not given the chance to work your problems out as you just up and decided to leave without even saying anything to anyone at all until you were already gone.
As for the trail ride, you were here over Labor Day. We are closed on Labor Day for all trail riding. We run a small crew on that day. So really you didn't see the real ranch as you were only here for two nights and really only one full day - of which was labor day. Also, as for riding, your partner had indicated that due to health/weight restrictions that you maybe were not comfortable riding. Your safety is our most important thing.
As for ranch work, the cattle just don't stay right outside your cabin all the time. We are a working guest ranch and those guest ranch guests ride and move cows and experience the cowboy life, horseback. The price for that experience is different than what you booked. We were not aware that that was what you wanted. I can assure you, we have cattle....lots of cattle.
As for not seeing your host, most people don't see me. I am very busy communicating with guests and coordinating things that doesn't allow me to get out of the office all day long. Which isn't an issue as I have a great staff and great people at the ranch, which can be seen by all the other reviews. They are the ranch. I am merely your coordinator that is available at any time to get you what you need. If I would have known what you needed, you would have gotten it!! You did meet the owner, which I would have thought would have been more important than meeting the office coordinator!!
Ultimately, I think there was confusion on what you booked. You booked lodging only, which it sounds like was good - you said the cabins were clean and nice! Next time, I encourage you to be clear on what you want and know that you need to let people know what you want so we can discuss how to get that and the associated cost with that level of service. Our posting is on VRBO, which is vacation property rental, not a guest ranch full/all-inclusive website.
Kara Creek Ranch is an awesome place to stay. The staff are all amazing and the food is great. The views are wonderful. The only "bad" thing is the 10 miles or so of gravel roads to get to the ranch from Sundance. Other than that, it was perfect!
We stayed here for 2 days on our journey through Wyoming. Loved the peace and quiet of the country. The scenery is great, and having the little saloon and gift shop on the property was really nice.
