About Fernando Donati
I grew up in this very house in the centre of Cortona and have always loved it with all of my heart. After a short time in which nobody has lived in here, I've decided that I had to invest in my 'sweet home' and completely restored it, starting from its basement. At the end of all the works that were done I was just amazed the first time I re-entered it. 'That's the right place to let other people experience what it means to live Cortona and its life!'. I hope you'll enjoy all that my town, Cortona, has to offer and I am sure you'll want to keep coming back too! Fernando, Cortona, Italy
Fernando Donati purchased this House in 1531
Why Fernando Donati chose Cortona Old Town
'... mother of Troy and grandmother of Rome' (Virgil - Aeneid III and IV) '... From Cortona there is a magnificent view; one’s gaze loses itself in the distance...' (François Mitterand, 1987) '... a marvellous city where everything speaks of God – the nature, the mountains, the woods...' (John Paul II, 1993) '... No map planner would describe it thus, but it is fascinating' (Frances Mayes - 'Under the Tuscan Sun', 1997)
What makes this House unique
Upon arriving we were greeted by the owner's son and wife and escorted through the narrow cobblestone streets of Cortona to our new home for the week. The green door in the wall gave no indication of the quaint courtyard and substantial house that awaited us. This had been the owner’s family home and it was evident by the sturdy furniture and fully stocked cabinets. Everything you needed to make your stay comfortable was supplied. It was more spacious than we envisioned and the location couldn’t have been more ideal. The main piazza was a short stroll away but far enough to make for a peaceful evening. The owners were warm and welcoming and always a phone call away. We had locked ourselves out one evening and a relative happily came to our rescue. Our departure date fell onto a holiday and after returning our car the day before we realized bus service wasn’t running on the holiday. The same relative happily picked us up at the crack of dawn to give us a lift to the train station. We have already recommended Il Roseto to friends and would love to stay again when we return to Italy.
