About Angela and Jose
Our Dad's family has owned this place for many years, sharing it with family and others over the years. It was originally bought by my Grandma after her hubby nearly drowned at a surf beach across in Waihi. As long as we can remember we've visited the property, which used to have a grand pohutukawa tree on it, which was one of the two largest single-trunked ones of its kind in NZ. The older home used to be a dance hall and meeting place for business visitors at one stage. Once the tree crushed the old home and died with a fungal infection, the current home was built and completed around 1995. It has been in family hands since, first with the original family of seven siblings, and now the next generation down is continuing this wonderful legacy.
Angela and Jose purchased this House in 1950
Why Angela and Jose chose Ngarimu Bay
It has all you need for a wonderful weekend or a retreat location for hobbies, business or fishing. Great for the family market too, with kayaks and walks on the beach beckoning. A local store is nearby in Kopu, local takeaways, and Thames is just a short drive away.
What makes this House unique
Fish off the beach, from the rocks or from a kayak
Max guests: 8
100% refund if cancelled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if cancelled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Damage and incidentals

Peace & quiet
Perfect spot to chill, read, swim & the added bonus of a sup board & kayaks for use. Even a wood pigeon & tui song along with lapping waves to wake up too😊
1st time in Thames
While it was a good stay, could benefit from deep clean, curtains very tired, could benefit from instructions for T.V etc, completely different than the photos online. Beach was great with good fishing.
Cute traditional bach.
We loved our time at Thorntons Bay and will definitely come back at some stage!
Every one is different
This bach was in an appropriate location for our needs. It was very well appointed with everything we needed for self-sufficient living. It is obviously a very well loved ‘family’ bach. Probably my omission, but I didn’t realize until reviewing the arrival info (very complete), that linens were not provided. This was an unexpected inconvenience. We coped quite well. This was our 4th book.a.bach (verb); The decor was surprisingly, Very tired. We had been previously spoiled by our first 3 bachs, which were beyond our expectations. (as is the present one, where we have just arrived). It worked, was clean and had everything we needed, probably just wouldn’t book it again if we ever came back to NZ...Sincerely; Merilyn and Norm
Enjoyed our stay thank you
Home very roomy with all that is required
A convenient dairy just up the road for any additional requirements
Appreciated the warning that the entrance from the road requires care. Beautiful sunsets each evening
It was a pleasure to have you stay Judy - it is a magnificent spot ;)
