Large exclusive semi modern beachfront property affronting the beautiful secret private sandy Whangaehu Beach, amazing panoramic ocean views. Large deck & very large 2200m2 section. Great surfing and swimming at the beach, also safe swimming for children at beach & in river lagoon next to beach. Children can walk & play at beach all within viewing of the bach. 3 min walk to several reefs where you can fish, dive or drop a cray pot. Excellent easy boat launching area next to the reef. Lovely coastal walks. 15 min drive to Porangahau Settlement which has historic pub with fabulous meals available and takeaways, shop and petrol, golf course & tennis courts. Premier East Coast fishing location.

The house was built 12 yrs ago, has a semi modern kitchen, pool table & large living area. Partly separate bedroom complex connected by outside deck which makes for ideal outdoor family living.
Special conditions:
There is to be no tents erected on the property.
NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house, do the dishes & take your rubbish away before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels). No parties or extra people. Sorry but shingle public road access for 10km in poor council condition.

Amazing stay right on the beach with stunning views. The place was easy to find, with easy access to the beach. Spacious rooms and a nice, clean bathroom. The deck was amazing and perfect for relaxing. The local people were very friendly, and the nearby walk/trek was great. Would definitely stay again.

Such a beautiful spot, Bach has everything you need for all ages to enjoy. The beach is beautiful and safe, rockpools and creek are lots of fun. This place is a hidden gem!

Away from it all

If you had a week, a boat, and fishing on your mind the is the place. The roads are still rough after the cyclone damage; so little cars struggle.

Great Beach

The location is amazing. Very challenging road to drive to get to the property. House needed a good clean when we arrived but a good vacuum and mop were provided to do this. Having a washing machine was great so we could wash tea towels etc. The lawns were very long on arrival so we bribed a neighbour to mow us a path through the meadow down to the beach.

This is a remote private beach location where there are no cleaners available to clean the bach. We rely on the guests before you to clean the bach properly. It is an honesty thing. We are sorry, but obviously the people before you didn't leave it tdy and clean.

Large Modern Beach Front House

Location to beach and property is wonderful. Sadly, let down terribly by the lack of cleanliness. We had to spend 40-50 minutes cleaning the kitchen, benchtops, cutlery, toilet etc before unpacking our food or using the toilet. The entire house could use a weekend cleaning to be honest. We were hoping to book again with our children but would not consider going back,

Hi We rely upon previous users to show respect and clean the property prior to leaving. There are no commercial cleaners located in the area and on occasions we can't check the property every time someone leaves. It is with great disappointment that the previous users have obviously left the property unclean. I must however point out that in the last 5 years of renting this holiday home out this is the first problem we have had with poor cleaning or a lack of it. I can only but apologise and we will be addressing the problem with the previous users.

Nice, quiet location with outstanding views. Property has a great set up with the bedrooms running separate from the main living area. However the property is in need of some up-keeping. Our experience could have been greatly improved if lawns and garden in reasonable condition and if we were able to use the dishwasher, the washing machine, and shower that the place is advertised with. It was even difficult to find a bowl or mug without any chips taken out. With that resolved it would be 5 star.

Sorry but we were away all of winter so no garden or lawn work done, all sorted now, Dishwasher & washing machine are working now and 2nd outside shower replaced, All bowls, mugs now new.

Would be a great summer stay

The location is stunning, great style bach for a big family group, and the deck was fun for the kids to play on. We were fortunate to get two sunny days to enjoy the beach and open the doors, otherwise this would have been a disappointing stay. The place was very damp and smelly. First thing we did when we got there was open it all up but the couches and large living room rug were damp our entire stay. I appreciate this is a beach location and probably difficult to avoid with different guests coming and going but it was unpleasant and uncomfortable. The water also ran brown initially, only clearing after about an hour of turning the tap on and off; fine, but maybe just worth letting guests know so they don't have to interrupt your weekend to ask you why!A few other things were in very average condition, and a bedroom heater broken. But like I say, we were fortunate to have some good weather to enjoy the place opened up and the beautiful surroundings, thanks for having us.

Compared to other properties we have stayed at it is way over priced considering we had to dispose of our own rubbish etc. Fridges had to be cleaned before we could put stuff in, great washing machine but it leaked, and nowhere to hang cloths, only the 2 wires outside by out door shower which held 3 towels. Bottom single bunk bed needs some attention to the base, other beds average. Average cleanliness. The beach was perfect for the children and safe. We won't be back to stay.

The bach is in a rural coastal location in Central Hawkes Bay & one should understand that you need to take your own rubbish away & there are no external cleaners to clean the bach so we rely on the honesty of the guests to do this. Both are stated in the criteria if you book. For the last 7 yrs we have rented the bach we haven't had a problem with cleanliness, wire line or questioning the beds from previous guests. Most of the fixtures & fittings fitout was new when house was built.

A gorgeous location, but unclean home

Our family were looking for a beautifully located beach home for our annual gathering (family from around the globe) and booked the home. The location is unbeatuable - the views unparalleled - and kids and adults alike enjoyed the river, beach, walks, and ocean swims. The stay however, was marred by the largely unhygienic state of the house. The uncleanliness was not due to previous guests, but rather long term uncleanliness to a level that was simply not acceptable. We've used bachs for over seven years, and never experienced this. We had to spend four hours doing a deep clean of appliances and the barbeucue to get them to an acceptable level. The extractor fan was wobbly, the oven makde a loud buzzing sound, the cutlery draw was broken, there was no toilet paper (40 minute return drive to purchase), and food items over 5 years expiry date were spilled in the food cupboard. In addition the property lists a "Hot tub” but there is not one - I had suggested this being removed weeks prior, which it wasn't, just in case in anyone sees that and is mislead. Sadly, this was communicated to the hosts post the stay with a rather unfortunate response from the host, not ackonowledging the situation & putting furstration and blame on previous guests and location. Despite that we had been given a prior arranged discount for the third night, the uncleanliness and unhelpful response from the host dis mar the experience. With a deep clean and refreshing, it is a truly magic spot.

This response is unfair and OT. The place was and is clean. It is next to a dirt/stone road that has dust in summer so if doors are left open dust form in the rural location. The guests before this booking booked for 5 people and had 30 stay. There was damage and they used all the toilet paper up and most of the gas. We rung these guests and told them there would be problems and it's best they cancel but they didn't respond. This person is from overseas and don't understand rural located bach in NZ. The 3yr old BQ has been sea air damaged is is now replaced.

Awesome spot, great bach. Even when the weather is bad it's a great place to go. The only thing it's missing is a fireplace. The best shower and hot water for a bach. Enjoyed our stay. Great communication from property manager.

The owners should inform guests that the toilet and living area can only be accessed from the central courtyard. in other words outside toilet . This is not good if you have to go 3 times in the night. the power went out and it took time to find the switch board. Being in a remote location all of this needs to be explained

Great location. Fantastic views of beach. Great set up for family living although some shade ( sun umbrella on picnic tables or sail on back deck) would have made it more comfortable on hot days. Some cleaners would have made cleanup at end more thorough. Would happily stay again.

Porangahau Stay

The location was fantastic, the proximity to the lagoon and the beach was great. However, the cleanliness of the Bach was questionable. I do not expect to clean toilets, cupboards, cutlery drawers on arrival. A power point hanging from the wall, a lid that kept falling off the kettle, an oven that made a disturbing noise and oven door falling loose and light bulb missing were issues that should be attended to. The furnishings and fittings were not up to the standard expected. The lack of internal access to the bathroom and bedrooms should be clearly mentioned on the website because it makes it unsafe for young children getting up in the night. If the safety, cleaning and furnishing issues were addressed I would give this property a higher rating.

These comments are very pedantic for a beach bach and we highly recommend that no-one rents to these people again. First, we left a note stating that the oven broke down and that we were unable to get an electrician to fix this within 24 hours during the Christmas period given that this bach is close to 2 hours from Hastings. As far as cleaning goes the property was thoroughly cleaned by us on our departure. The jug was still usable; the furnishings are again bach standard & we find this comment highly rude; it states on the website that the bedroom complex is partly separate connected by a deck which is exactly what it is.

This bach is owned by the Wilkins Family. We used it for many years during summer but our family now travel to Europe & the US during summer for alpine ski racing & this is the only reason why this bach has become available for public use. It was built as a summer residence providing for 3 separate buildings connected by large decks. It creates excellent separation between the lounge/kitchen building, bathroom building & the bedrooms building. It is a great entertainment & children friendly bach built for this purpose.
