Luxury Marlborough Vineyard Cottage with Private Pool & Garden

Escape to this vineyard cottage surrounded by gardens, vineyards and open countryside. This welcoming three bedroom home features a light filled living room, a well equipped kitchen, an al fresco dining terrace with Weber BBQ, and a fully fenced private pool. Enjoy generous outdoor living and easy access to Marlborough’s wineries, walking trails and Blenheim - the perfect Marlborough vineyard accommodation for couples, families or friends.

Named one of Bookabach's '2025 Baches of the Year', Eliza’s is a romantic and luxurious vineyard cottage set within an acre of established garden on a private Marlborough farm. Enjoy exclusive use of your own swimming pool and beautiful views of the vines and Richmond Ranges, only minutes from Blenheim, Picton and the Ferry Terminal.

Inside, the cottage blends timeless charm with modern comfort. Every room looks onto vines, gardens or hills, with dramatic evening light and clear, starry night skies. The open plan kitchen, dining and living areas flow directly to the terrace, BBQ, pool and garden - an easy space to cook, read, relax or enjoy shared meals in a peaceful country setting, yet close to Blenheim’s restaurants, cafés and tasting rooms.

Eliza’s sits within a New Zealand Garden of National Significance, shaped over decades through Kaitiakitanga/Guardianship and an ongoing commitment to the land. Staying here offers a rare chance to immerse yourself in one of the country’s most beautiful private gardens - wander the woodland paths, listen to the birdsong, notice the changing colours through the year, and relax on inviting seating in areas designed for the calmness of connection to nature.

Your stay includes generous, complimentary homemade country breakfast provisions:

• Free-range eggs, fruit, vegetables and nuts from the farm.
• Freshly baked walnut bread.
• Homemade jams and jellies.
• A chilled bottle of award winning wine from our vineyard

The cottage has been thoughtfully curated for comfort and luxury with:

• Exceptionally comfortable beds with crisp cotton and goose down bedding.
• Locally made bathroom amenities and white robes.
• Fresh flowers in every room.
• A well-equipped kitchen and pantry essentials.
• Full laundry inside the cottage - all essentials provided.
• Books, art, antiques and natural materials throughout

Guests enjoy exclusive access to the private pool, gardens, outdoor games and all cottage spaces. The farm includes 100 acres of vineyard and land where you can walk, run or explore in complete peace and privacy. Our small team works discreetly when maintaining the grounds, always respectful of your space.

Pets are welcome - dogs especially love exploring the vineyard and garden paths.

Eliza’s embraces sustainability and a slower rhythm of life, shaped by seasonal produce, bird and wildlife, long days outdoors and thoughtful hosting. Breakfast ingredients are often gathered from the property, and the gardens are tended using environmentally conscious methods. Many guests say this rhythm of living is the real luxury of their stay.

We live 500 metres down the road in a separate farmhouse, available if you need anything while ensuring complete privacy. With our local knowledge, we’re always happy to recommend wineries, walks, swimming spots, scenic drives and dining. The best local pub and craft brewery is a short stroll from the cottage.

Our home garden at Welton House is also a New Zealand Garden of National Significance. Over the years it has appeared in books, magazines and international garden tours, and has become well known in the horticultural world. While it’s not part of the cottage stay, our Eliza's guests are welcome to visit free of charge at their leisure. It offers a sense of the wider landscape and history that surrounds Eliza’s.

Professionally hosted since 2011, Eliza’s has become a much loved place to stay, recognised through awards, garden features and guests who return year after year. A two-night minimum stay applies (season dependent), with long-stay quotes available on request.

Amazingly Magical Stay

The stay at Eliza’s cottage was a whimsical experience from the beautiful garden to the home made breakfast breads and jams our host our did herself. Our kids also loved a splash in the pool in the afternoons and picking lemons off the many fruit trees in the garden. What a beautiful place to stay while enjoying the lovely wine region of NZ.

Idyllic oasis

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Eliza’s cottage. The setting was just dreamy and magical - our kids loved being outside exploring. The house was warm and well equipped and the supplies provided were a step beyond! The breakfast goodies were such a treat! We found it relaxing and charming and it was the perfect spot for our family weekend getaway. The hosts were very attentive when we needed but allowed us our space and privacy. We would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Blenheim.

Perfect

Upon entering the cottage we found a beautiful assortment of produce on the counter and a well-stocked fridge — not just milk but eggs, bacon, and a few other delicious surprises. Fresh bread was delivered not long after our arrival. The house is beautifully decorated as the pictures depict and the diversity of plants in the garden amazing. Vineyards surrounding everything. The morning we left our kind host allowed us to join a tour she was giving of her own gardens located just down the lane.

Incredible place!

What a lovely cottage. The surroundings were unbeatable, looking onto the vines. Great BBQ. Wendy was really quick to reply throughout and very helpful, as was Jessica. They very professionally handled a huge cleanup task from the previous guests, with everything ready on time, including fresh fruit and beautiful homemade bread. I couldn’t recommend this place more!

Perfect place in the middle of wine country

We loved our stay at Wendy’s home while visiting the wine country of Blenheim. It’s perfectly located in the middle of the majority of the wineries and sits on a gorgeous piece of property. The garden is spectacular and the view is picturesque - we loved having so much space to relax and enjoy after exploring all day. Wendy prepared yummy bread and stocked the fridge/pantry with breakfast items for our stay. It was wonderful to have breakfast items all set for us the next morning after we traveled for many hours the day before. And, the kitchen has everything you need to prepare any type of meal! The house itself is a great size, especially for two adults. The living area is cozy with windows in all directions so you can enjoy the views. It was great to have an air conditioner and heater - we experienced all sorts of weather, so we were very comfortable during the day and night. The house also has a large washer & dryer which came in handy! Wendy was a great communicator and always quick to respond. She gave us helpful hints for local restaurants and which wineries to visit. Whatever we needed, she was available immediately and eager to make us happy. We’d definitely stay at Wendy’s home again and highly recommend others to reserve it when visiting Blenheim!

Eliza’s Garden Cottage was spectacular - set amongst a vineyard with awesome gardens. The rhododendrons were awash in all colors. Breakfast supplies included yummy homemade granola and walnut bread. The cottage had all the comforts of home. We were sad to leave and rate it as one of favorite stays. If you are in Blenheim stay here you won’t be disappointed.

What a wonderful haven. We could have stayed for weeks.

A home away from home with thoughtful touches of fresh flowers, homemade bread and preserves and yummy breakfast fixings. Very comfortable beds and nice linens. Set in the countryside less than 10 minutes from downtown Blenheim. Highly recommended.

This is deservedly one of the the top rating Bach’s in NZ.

Wendy’s extra touches were just incredible. Hone made bread (I really need the recipe), tiny, jewel- like preserves she makes herself and eggs from her chooks. The tour of the magnificent garden surrounding her own house was an added bonus. Pudding the sheep was a highlight. I can’t recommend Wendy’s place highly enough

Beautiful cottage

Eliza's cottage is one of the best holiday homes we have ever stayed in. Located in stunning vineyard scenery, it is wonderfully quiet and private yet only a short drive to central Blenheim. From the moment you arrive, you'll be spoilt by the owner's thoughtful touches. Bread, wine, and breakfast condiments on arrival, a daily newspaper delivered to your door, a fully equipped kitchen, different coffee varieties - it's all there. Lemon and orange trees in the garden invite you to make your own fresh juice. There is a small pool in the backyard as well as a large garden for outdoor games. Our stay was a dream, and we will certainly be back.

What a find. We almost don't want to share this little gem in case it gets too popular as we will definitely stay here again. The extras like the freshly baked artisan bread, neighbourhood eggs, homemade jams etc etc... just add to the incredible experience and value. The gardens and view.. glorious and your host makes you feel like its your home. Its got everything and its worth every cent. Don't hesitate to stay here, you won't regret it. :)

Amazing Cottage in the Heart of Wine Country

A really beautiful and well maintained cottage with some exceptional personal touches, such as fresh baked bread, a bottle of wine and newspaper for when you arrive. An amazing garden to watch the sunset over the vineyards. We took our dog for a sunrise walk through the vineyards as well. The cottage is easy to find with easy access to the Picton Ferry and the wineries of Blenheim. As we loaded the car and pulled away my wife said "you know we are coming back."

About the host

Hosted by Wendy Palmer

Host profile image
We live next door in the original century plus old farmhouse on the farm, which we restored for modern living while keeping its history, charm and Marlborough character intact. The house is surrounded by a five acre garden recognised as a Garden of International Significance by the New Zealand Gardens Trust — a peaceful, biodiverse space that reflects our love of gardening and connection to nature. A place to practise our philosophy of Kaitiakitanga or guardianship.

Our main work is growing grapes on the vineyard that surrounds both properties, but hosting has become one of the most enjoyable parts of life here. We love the happy, positive energy that guests bring when they arrive on holiday, ready to experience the Marlborough wine region, explore Blenheim and Picton, or simply unwind in a beautiful, quiet place.

It feels like a privilege to share this farm, garden and landscape with visitors from New Zealand and around the world. We enjoy offering local recommendations, helping tailor itineraries and making sure guests experience the best of the region - the vineyards, walks, food, scenery and slower rhythm of life that makes Marlborough so special.

At heart, we are people who value beauty, sustainability, good food, good wine, animals and the simple pleasure of living close to the land. Welcoming guests into this environment feels very natural to us, and the relationships that form through hosting are something we genuinely treasure.

Why they chose this property

We chose this part of Marlborough for its sunshine, open spaces and peaceful way of life. Fifteen years ago, we purchased the neighbouring farm and the house that now forms Eliza’s. The established garden from the late 1960s and 70s, full of mature trees, flowering borders and gentle woodland paths, immediately won us over. There was also a charming pool that felt like it belonged to long, sunny Marlborough summers — and we knew instantly the property had everything needed for a beautiful holiday home.

Marlborough itself offers an extraordinary lifestyle: world-class wineries, stunning landscapes, outdoor activities, the Marlborough Sounds, and the convenience of Blenheim and Picton close by. The clarity of light, the mountain views, the vineyards and the calm pace of the wine region were a perfect match for how we like to live.

Having stayed in many holiday homes in different countries, I had become a bit opinionated about what guests really need - comfort, beauty, privacy, attractive design, and a genuine sense of place. Creating Eliza’s gave me the chance to bring all those ideas to life.

I designed it to be my ideal holiday home - elegant, restful, filled with sunlight and surrounded by nature. Ironically, I’ve never stayed in it myself — but watching guests fall in love with it, relax into it, and return year after year is more satisfying than anything I could have imagined.

Choosing this area was one of our best decisions. The Marlborough wine region continues to inspire us with its landscape, climate, food, wine and warm community. Sharing it with guests is an ongoing joy.

What makes this property unique

We chose Marlborough as our forever home nearly two decades ago, drawn by its climate, natural beauty and the relaxed lifestyle of the wine region. Eliza’s is unique because it captures all the qualities that make this part of New Zealand special - privacy, space, garden life, mountain foothills and vineyard views and a deep sense of place.

The cottage is set within an acre of garden on our private vineyard estate, surrounded by vines and framed by some of the region’s most beautiful views. Guests often tell us they didn’t expect such peacefulness so close to Blenheim, Picton and the Picton Ferry Terminal. The sunsets over the Richmond Ranges are particularly memorable - light dancing across the mountains in a way that feels peaceful, grounding and awe inspiring.

Eliza’s is also part of a New Zealand Garden of National Significance, something rare for holiday accommodation. Guests have the unusual experience of staying inside a mature, intentional naturalistic garden, with a green calm woodland, a cornucopia of seasonal blooms including towering lilies in early summer and a magnificent long lawn. With plenty of fruit trees to forage It is a garden designed for wandering, pausing, reading and restoring.

Privacy is another unique element. The cottage has an exclusive-use private pool, its own garden spaces and a feeling of total seclusion — while still being minutes from wineries, restaurants, walking trails and the ferry connection between the North and South Islands.

We embrace slow travel and sustainability. Many breakfast ingredients come from the farm, the gardens are tended with environmentally conscious methods, and guests often tell us it is the slower pace of life here that stays with them long after they leave.

Eliza’s stands out because it offers something rare: a peaceful Marlborough vineyard retreat where nature, comfort and thoughtful hospitality come together effortlessly.
