About this property
Deco Loft on Russell Street
Summary:
Formerly the official Police Station, this fantastic Art Deco building in Russell Street was built in 1943 with inspiration taken from the Empire State Building. A two bedroom loft apartment with Manhattan vibes and a mind-blowing view across to the Melbourne CBD to enjoy. Walking distance to everything and access to a 25 metre lap pool and full gym facility on site. A dream package to enjoy one of the best cities in the world from.
The Space:
A two bedroom loft-style apartment in an iconic building with the most majestic sweeping views across the Melbourne CBD. A incredible sight to behold at night time and will make your stay truly memorable.
The apartment is situated across two levels, with a void looking into the lounge room below from the upstairs area.
On the entry level you will find the first bedroom (furnished with a queen bed), the bathroom and open plan living, kitchen and dining area. There are two separate decks from the kitchen and lounge room, the first is smaller and takes in a more residential outlook whereas the other is spacious and literally worth writing home about. featuring views over the rooftop of the old Melbourne Gaol and directly across to the unobstructed skyline of the CBD. Enjoy using the cocktail set to mix a couple of drinks and take in the views as you watch the night unfold in front of you.
Upstairs you will find the second, slightly larger bedroom (also furnished with a queen bed), and a separate sitting area.
The kitchen is fully equipped however with the unlimited dining options in the city you will no doubt prefer eating out - you will find some great suggestions in the guest house manual and Airbnb guide book. The dining table is compact but can be extended to seat four guests.
As a guest of the Deco Loft, you will have access to the complex's two lane, 25 metre lap pool, the sauna, steam room and fully-equipped gym. Please note BBQ facilities are completely off-limits to guests as they are exclusively for permanent residents. On this note, we ask you to please respect that this is a predominantly residential building and parties are *strictly* off-limits, which you will be asked to acknowledge in the house rules when you book.
A car park is provided for 1 x vehicle, which is securely garaged within the complex. We would recommend nothing larger than a medium vehicle in this space as it is relatively compact.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the entire apartment, the complex's pool, sauna, steam room and gym areas.
Getting Around:
There are so many options for seeing this amazing city - you literally could not be in a better location! Take it all in on foot, jump in an Uber or cab or grab a Lime scooter. Alternatively, there are two car sharing services with stations right out front of the building - you can use either GoGet or Flexicar to explore Melbourne by renting a car by the hour or by the day. If you have your own vehicle or hire car, there is a garaged car space available to you for your stay. It is best suited to a small-medium vehicle.
Other Things to Note:
We use a third party key concierge, who will meet you at the entry to the building and give you keys after your ID has been verified. The process is quick, secure and easy and simply relies on you advising an accurate arrival time which you can update if plans change.
Interaction with Guests:
Russell Street in Melbourne is a central and lively area, offering tourists a great mix of attractions, dining, and shopping. It's conveniently located near Federation Square, a cultural hub with museums like the *National Gallery of Victoria (NGV)* and *ACMI* (Australian Centre for the Moving Image). These sites, alongside the open public spaces of Federation Square, make for a must-see stop. Not far from Russell Street, you'll find the Royal Arcade, one of Melbourne’s oldest shopping arcades, where visitors can enjoy both unique shopping experiences and the charm of historic architecture.
For food lovers, the area is a haven. Chinatown, just around the corner, offers a variety of Asian cuisine, from street food to fine dining. The surrounding laneways are home to an eclectic mix of trendy cafés and hidden bars, making it a perfect spot for exploring Melbourne’s food scene. Whether you're in the mood for a quick bite or a leisurely meal, you'll find plenty of options.
Shopping is also a big draw in this part of the city. Just a short walk away, Bourke Street Mall is Melbourne’s primary retail precinct, filled with well-known department stores and high-street fashion shops. Whether you're after international brands or local designs, it’s an ideal place to spend some time browsing.
The location is also extremely convenient for tourists using public transport. With Melbourne Central Station nearby, visitors have easy access to trams and trains that can take them all around the city and beyond, making Russell Street an excellent starting point for exploring Melbourne further.
