About this property

Self contained farm-stay cottage, rural location - Whitemans Valley, Hutt Valley

Back on the market from Feb 2024:: Rural retreat - great family value.
Quality quiet property with rural outlook close to the city.
This smart renovation is light, clean and family friendly. Ideally suited to couples and families with 1 queen size bed in the master bedroom, a large sofa/queen bed in the lounge and up to 4 child-size beds in a separate childrens room. A unique architecturally designed conversion of the original cowshed, the Herringbone Cottage offers a peaceful farm setting where you can choose to simply rest and relax, or if you feel energetic there are trails for walking and biking nearby. The cottage is light, warm and sunny with a free standing wood fire for the colder months. The living area opens onto a concrete yard with views over tranquil green paddocks and grazing horses. Gas BBQ and two bikes provided. The interior decor of the cottage is reminiscent of the '50s and farming with blue and white china, decorative enamel ware and old fashioned storage containers. Books, over 200 DVD movies are available free to guests during their stay. For day trippers its an easy drive to Wellington, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua and the Wairarapa. Silverstream Village is just 7kms down Blue Mountains road with an excellent shopping centre, medical services and train. The cottage is ideal for couples and families, not for large groups of adults. Children must be supervised at all times. The cottage is a charming comfortable venue in a unique setting. Special conditions:
No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property, WIFI coverage is patchy, this is beyond our control. Sorry . We recommend you tether to your mobile devices. Children are welcome but must be closely supervised at all times as the cottage is set in a rural farm setting with natural hazards and large animals. Council Rubbish bags are provided.
After a long term tenant we are back on the market from Feb 2024.
Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave.

Very cozy place, especially in thunder storms. Hosts left plenty of firewood for the stay & were very accommodating & friendly. Thank you too for taking the grandchildren to feed the horses, made their day.

The log fire was light and the accommodation was warm. As we had a toddler and baby with us so it was toasty warm with plenty of firewood. Just to note the property doesn’t even let you use your own wifi as it’s based in a valley so absolutely no Internet at all. Peaceful 😊 Friendly helpful hosts Martin and Nicola

Family holiday

This is a lovely property. The owners have put a lot of time into making it a home away from home. We enjoyed our stay and it had everything we needed. It was a 40 minute drive into the central city, so that would be the only thing to take into account for a city break. The hosts were lovely and answered any questions we had, they also left some biscuits for the kids and gave us some fresh eggs to take home, this was very kind and greatly appreciated.

Lovely stay

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. The house had everything we needed to feel like we were at home with our family. The scenery is beautiful with lovely farm views. The hosts are welcoming and friendly, going the extra mile by allowing the kids to help feed their horses, which they loved :) We would definitely recommend to all and would love to come back in the future.

Owner very friendly and accommodating, lovely quiet setting. Few cleanliness issues on arrival but didn't detract from the overall experience. Shower was AMAZING, found the queen bed a bit hard for our liking and shame that many of the DVDs were unplayable in the evenings due to their region. Kids loved feeding the horses carrots, recommend taking a bag or two along. Also really appreciated the gift on arrival - thank you!

Looking for some peace and quiet?

Then stay at Herringbone cottage. From the interesting history of the building, the charming and well appointed cottage atmosphere and the warmth of the host we felt welcome and had a comfortable stay. The peaceful surroundings are a tonic after a busy and tiring year. Heartily recommended.

Wonderful family stay!

We had such a quiet family get away at Herringbone Cottage. The owners were super easy to contact and made life easy for us in so many ways. Everything was where it should be. The older 3 kids had a ball watching movies and playing games...especially hearing stories about a magical dragon in the hills (Marty is quite the story teller)!! Admittedly the 2 year old was a nightmare with the fire going...mr touches everything! So we used the clothes airer as a fire guard 👌Would (and have) recommend to Families needing a chill, quiet break! 😃
