About this property

East Coast Escape - Bach with seaviews

Our slice of family paradise is located at Mahanga which only has 60 baches. It is 10 minutes from Mahia, 40 minutes from Wairoa and 1 hour from Gisborne.

Beach front bach with views over the ocean and at the back of the bach there are views out over the hills that contain protected native forests.

Fantastic sandy beach for both swimming and surfing.

Pot belly stove upstairs to keep you warm along with heaters for winter. Lovely walks from the house up over native bush which is suitable in summer and winter.

Walk around the rocks to go diving for paua and crayfish or walk the other direction along the beach to the water mouth to hunt pippies, cockles and tuatauas. (7km each way).

There are loads for games and puzzles to play as there is no TV or internet, which we love! As it really is the simplicity of life! But if you need access just drive around to Mahia. Or you can get intermittent coverage from the beach.

There is also a local horse down the road to visit! Or hots pools 20 mins away.

Please note that we only accept week long stays.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels).
NOTE: We have a min of 5 days stay over summer time

Iconic Kiwi Bach - cute as!

Really lovely family bach, right across from the beach. Lovely view and everything you need for a great summer holiday. Owners were lovely - great communication and really friendly - and kindly allowed us to use the kayaks etc in the shed.

Relax and Rewind

A great kiwiana bach to reset, relax and rewind. The native birds around the property were a bonus. It took a while to find the instructions but we left these on the fridge for the next holiday people. Advice to anyone who stays, if the water is hot just check that it's on. On our 3rd day the hot water wasn't so hot but we found that it wasn't on, so just check the switch is on lol. Anna was easy to communicate with. Mahanga is a beautiful spot, thanks for sharing your family bach with us.

Great location

Great location ... We found the cleanliness was lacking ... it is hard to cook in a dirty oven ... Rotting food in the fridge... The pillow cases have white stains over them possible dribble stains.. Most of us came with our own linen as requested but luckly most of us travelled with our own bedding as well ... The fire place is unsafe as it has a Crack down one side once lit you have to stay awake until it dies out and no fire guard..we had a four year old with us.. No telephone incase of an emergency ..there is no mobile data or coverage which we did not mind at all but when our four year old started to break out in hives I felt a little panicked that I could not contact anyone for advice..however on the flip side no coverage of phone or internet made it a great family experience... thank you

Fabulous Holiday Home

We had a fantastic time staying at this property. Heaps of space both inside and out, amazing views and we enjoyed disconnecting from everything (no wifi, no cell coverage, no tv, no radio) - we loved this after feeling like we have been connected to everything all year. A perfect holiday!

Mahanga is paradise

Basic property with amazing view striaght ou tot he surf break. Lovely swimming beach straight accross the road. An endless sandy beach to walk in the evenings. Diving around the headland.
