Stranded in Paradise Ecolodge is situated in the middle of the bay on an elevated private site. Stunning sea views can be seen all over the site from the main lodge, cabins and tent sites. Rated by Lonely Planet as one of three top picks in Gisborne Napier region. Come and enjoy a relaxed holiday with a group of friends or family. Horse treks and hiking in neighboring bays and ranges are recommended . Special conditions: Please note that the Lodge is designed to maximise views and so cabins are a short walk to facilities. Awesome lodge which really lives up to the term 'eco' in that it is genuinely eco-friendly and doing what we all should be doing to avert the kind of climate catastrophes that so regularly affect Te Tai Rāwhiti and Aotearoa in general now.
Even though it rained, the comfort of the fire, heaps of space for kids, awesmome spot away from main house to escape too. Thanks to our amazing hosts !!
We loved our stay at the beautiful eco lodge!! The place was cozy and homely, with plenty of space for our whānau to spend time together!! The cabins were perfect to get a bit of down time with stunning views to match. We definitely plan on coming back! Thank you
We were up there for an unveiling in Waipiro bay. Bit of a drive from there, and to wake up the next morning to beautiful scenery, was amaizing, gorgous. Interesting misterious place.
Thankyou again for letting us stay. What a gorgeous part of the country and the perfect mix of isolation but with a quality 4 Square down the hill. Apologies for the breakage, please forward me the bill. But honestly this break was lkng overdue and exactly what we needed. Thankyou. (PS, my two mini schauzers enjoyed it too)
Best place to refresh and refuel for the year ahead - magic!
This was just the most ideal place for our group of 14. Romantic and secluded cabins amongst the trees for some, intriguing attic spaces for others and a big deck with stunning views for everyone to relax on. Beautifully clean and well maintained. Everything we needed in the kitchen - loved the excess of fridge space. Used the out door fire. Leanne and Angus welcomed us and looked after us well - ready to help with planning our stay and getting contacts for local tourist operators. We also loved the eco aspect of it. Tokomaru Bay is utterly charming - gorgeous beach, interesting industrial archeology, yesteryear feel to the village, great local pub for family dining - Te Puka Tavern, galleries. We enjoyed a good walk behind the lodge up Marotiri for gorgeous views of the Bay - some of us made it to the top for even better views.
We arranged to get transported some way up Mt Hikurangi (1hr 15 to the carpark), were given a short tour of the stunning Pou (truely works of art worth visiting) and then climbed the mountain. This was one of many highlights for our stay. For reasonably fit and fearless people but you can also just do the tour and walk some of the way up for stunning views.
We had hoped to do a bit more surfing but the sea stayed stubborning serene. Still got out to surf and bogey board and found the surf easier at Anauru Bay only 20 mins drive away.
Overall this was the most amazingly relaxing holiday I've had in a long time in the beautifully appointed lodge. I unreservedly recommend!!
Our whanau had a great nights stay on our way from Auckland - Gisbourne - to Ruatoria to our home Marae, Tinatoka. The venue was just right, very welcoming hosts, and our two little dogs were also catered for. We hired the whole place and stayed up till the wee hours of the morning playing monopoly, highly recommended
In a beautiful location within walking distance of the beach.
The place is well furnished catering for a a relaxing stay in Tokomaru Bay. Though the weather wasn't the best the coziness of the fire made up for,
We actually have a bach in Toko. For camping tents etc. Whanau had a working bee the long weekend. With our big family I actually did not know the lodge excited out of sight and a getaway to relax, with amnenities needed when you have tired cold children and your elders need some warmth and comfort! No worries just bring yourself and really kick back on the coast!
We visited for a week with our 5 grown up kids and 6 pet dogs. We appreciated having our own spaces because of the cabins and lofts however I would say the lofts are best suited to teens and older children as the beds are more trundlers than proper beds. The three larger beds were very satisfactory. We appreciated the feel of the decor, very kiwi bach, cosy, clean and tidy. It was useful that there was a washing machine and clothes line and a bit of extra fridge space although the 4 square was very good and we probably didn’t need to bring as many supplies as we did. The highlights were the views and nature sounds and the pub meal. Only lowlight was one of the two showers was not really worth using but we used the other one so that was fine. If you are sensitive about toilets then composting is not for you but we weren’t bothered. I think it would have been helpful to know the terrain is sloping as no where to kick a ball or set up cricket on site. Leane and Angus were very accomodating of our dogs and we would recommend the place to our friends and family.
This property was in a great location, within walking distance of the beach, and worked perfectly for our extended family group. Everything we needed was provided and the place was really clean and well maintained.
It was difficult to understand from the website exactly what the facilities were like, especially the bathroom arrangements, but phone discussion with the delightful hostess clarified that. I wanted a place where I could have breakfast on the deck in peace overlooking the sea, and this place provided that perfectly.
