2/10 Terrible

Not what was advertised - DO NOT STAY HERE! It’s a seedy hotel in a terrible neighbourhood
We were led to believe this was a residence in a nice low-rise condo in downtown Toronto. On arrival, we were immediately alarmed to find a seedy-looking and run-down building with a faded “Love Motel” sign on the outside, in a not-so-safe neighbourhood. The lot across the street was an open paid-parking lot with broken glass, garbage, and a small boarded-up building with graffiti on it. The inside was no better, with a small and shabby lobby, locked gates, and an array of security cameras that gave the vibe of a trashy hourly-rate motel.Having just arrived off a midnight plane, and not knowing if we could find anything else at what was now past 1am, we went inside to at least see the room. The person checking us in forced us to sign a check-in paper, took copies of our driver’s licenses, and then took my credit card and asked me to enter my PIN. I didn’t know what was being charged, and when I asked, he said it was for the room. I told him I already paid through VRBO, and when I provided proof, he put my card back in the machine and again asked me to enter my PIN. I again asked what he was trying to charge us for, and he said it was for a 300 deposit. I could not see the amount, so I refused. When we asked to see the room, he tried to make excuses why he couldn’t show it to us, but eventually relented. When we saw it, it was so uncomfortable that we left. We ended up having to scramble to get another hotel at a premium rate.
