About this property
Ocean View Captain's House - Fundy Shore Nova Scotia
Sunny, airy, ocean-view living. Relax and restore in this spacious 150-year old captain's house on the edge of the Bay of Fundy. Large country kitchen, big backyard, ping-pong, wood stove for cool evenings. Casual, comfortable, family-friendly with toys + books, for easy summer living. Collect sea treasures on the beach as life slows down. You won't forget a week of salt air watching the highest tides in the world.
Famous for its stellar sunset, Margaretsville also offers dark nights for marvellous the star gazing. The ocean air is clean with a tinge of salt. Local delights include Ice Cream Sundays at the Community Hall across the street. The local Evergreen Theatre presents summer concerts of local, national and international musical artists. It's excellent entertainment in a delightfully small renovated church just a mile down the road. An evening spent with the local community listening to live music will be a lifelong memory.
The Captain's House was built in 1865 and maintains its old charm, blending elegance with a rough around the edges comfort that comes with age. The house has all modern amenities, linens, cooking tools, etc needed for comfort and is decorated in keeping with casual living for family friendly ease. There are no shops or quick coffee stops nearby - as this is a small coastal town - but all amenities are within a 15 minute drive: large grocery store, local farmers market, pharmacy, liquor store, crafts, and antiques. There is an auction house just along the road for finding true local treasures.
The tides are the highest in the world (!) and can be enjoyed both at a distance - watching the daily ebb and flow from the front yard - and by wading into the waters. All information regarding water safety is available locally and at the house. The Bay is very powerful and can be unpredictable. Caution must be taken.
Situated in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia, this area is a charm in the summer with many woods walks and swimming lakes within easy driving distance. Take a day hike up Cape Split, or check out the red sands at Blomidon Beach. Aylesford Lake is excellent for easy swimming and is very kid friendly. Go whale watching from Briar Island, or check out the historic town of Annapolis Royal full of local arts and crafts - and a dance festival! There are famous wineries - and breweries - with excellent restaurants in many towns within an afternoons drive.
Margaretsville is easy 90 minute drive from Halifax's Stanfield International Airport, where you can rent a car to get to Margaretsville.
