About this property

Camano Island Garden Cottage at Madrona Beach, the Island you can drive to!

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE description of the cottage and our rules before booking. If instant booking, please also send a note to acknowledge these items or cancel your reservation. Please express your understanding/agreement of each of the following:1) the kitchenette/ cooking situation (2) the bathroom, which is ADA accessible and doesn’t have a door but two thick shower curtains and a strong fan for privacy. Most people who read the details are appreciative that we are very strict about the (3)smoking and (4) pet policy due to allergies. We wash each piece of bedding and sanitize/rotate out all pillows/ covers for each guest booking.
Our cottage offers comfortable charm overlooking gardens bursting in flowers in season and just a short block/ 3-5 minute walk from our private community beach.

The cottage has it's own private gated entrance and ground level deck with Adirondack chairs, a propane fire pit stove, a breakfast table and chairs, a small gas barbecue if requested. You are also welcome to use our barbecue that is around the corner on our deck. You will enter from close by parking, just off the street through the purposely indescript private gate onto the cottage private deck at ground level. Step two stairs down into the cottage. ADA entrance In this case, with 1 week prior notification of your need to use this entrance.

Comfortable and uniquely furnished, the cottage has two almost separate rooms, and there is a room divider that can be put across between the bedroom and the sitting/kitchenette room.

The unique wet room shower/bathroom is ADA, bench available upon request. There is no door on this room, but two thick shower curtains and there’s a fan, matches, and spray provided. Pretty much everyone sleeps very peacefully on our firm, yet soft organic queen bed with 100% cotton, high end sheets and bedding. Cotton sheets and blankets are freshly laundered and aired on the line. You won't find any synthetic bedding here. Pillows are traded out/sanitized for each visit, including extra pillow lining covers and throw pillow covers.

A baby or small child could sleep in a Pak-n-Play crib. There is a room divider available. We also have a twin blowup mattress or cot that takes up pretty much the whole sitting kitchenette area floor space for $10 a night extra for a third person.

An Eero booster creates quite dependable wifi access. A smart TV offers you viewing with our WIFI on your own Netflix or Prime, etc. accounts. We have access to Fubo and a few other complementary channels. WIFI is suitable for work, so bring your laptop and stay for the week. Sunday evenings are sometimes a little slow because everyone seems to be using internet. Take your lunch break with a walk to the beach or a spin on a kayak on a warm day.

Our kitchen that is very usable for cooking even though there is no full-size stove or oven. Available are a microwave, instant hot water pot, french press, pod style coffee maker, toaster, mini fridge, crock pots, sandwich press, electric fry pan, NuWave oven, NuWave air fryer available upon request, NuWave burner, farm sink, and well equipped dishes and utensils. You are also welcome to use our barbecue on the nearby ground level back deck or we have a small propane barbecue that you can use on your deck if you request it. All surfaces and dishes are sanitized between visits.

It often clears up enough for a sunset here, even on cloudy days. We are in the 'Rain Shadow of the Olympics' and have approximately 72+ days more with sunshine than the greater Seattle area. Its about 5-10 degrees warmer in the winter and 5-10 degrees cooler in summer than in Seattle greater area. Take a break from the heat here for a week or month and take advantage of weekly’s/monthly discounts.

Eat your breakfast on the deck in warm months and enjoy the shade of the tree over the deck on warmer days.

The sitting area includes a down loveseat and a cozy little chair on wheels in front of the fireplace that you can turn around to warm your toes or to face conversation or play a game. The darling woodstove heats the entire cottage quite sufficiently, but there is also electric heat in the bedroom area and in the bathroom. Wood and lighting materials are provided.

Take a cool refreshing dip and/or experienced kayakers may borrow ours with permission.

Sunsets are often stellar, just take that less than five minute walk to the beach, and stay for at least half an hour after sundown for the best colors. If you don’t want to sit on the logs, just ask and we will provide some folding chairs For you to use at the beach.

Hike short or longer trails in the nearby state parks.
NO PETS!! I realize that dogs are very popular around here and there are places where you can take them. Sorry, not sorry, not here- if you bring fido you will be assessed additional cleaning/ time loss fees. Our cat, Sir Jack (Maine Coon fluff!) will wander, but not go in the cottage. (He is not allowed, but also not inclined.) He is afraid of his own shadow most of the time so if you see him, it will be fleeting. Our Leo, the beach puppycat - (a black-brown tabby) is very friendly and thinks he wants to go into the cottage. He will come and say hello and knows he’s not supposed to go in, so please don’t let him. He’s happy to rub your legs, be pet and even held, but you can tell him no if that bothers you and he will leave you alone. He’ll just go find someone else. He makes his rounds in the neighborhood every day to visit everyone and follows us to the beach each day when invited. We sometimes need to carry him home because he has some health problems but he’s living his best life.

If you EVER SMOKE (or vape) ANYTHING, do not book this rental!! No need to read on except to learn that you will be charged a minimum of $600 for residual smoke smell of any kind. We lose several days and up to a week over residual smoke!

We are just an hour from Seattle during light traffic times, but longer at rush hour and/or if you come on a holiday weekend. It's so worth the trip, even in traffic. You will feel your blood pressure fall when you drive onto this sweet island. We are a nice half wayish stop between Sea-Tac Aiport) (55 miles) or Paine field (24 miles) and the San Juan Islands, and Vancouver Int'l (74 miles)

AMAZING little cottage!
I've stayed at many vacation rental properties, and hands down, this was my favorite of all of them. I was visiting a relative in Stanwood during the most of the day and hotel options are few and far between in this area, but this was perfect. It was very peaceful and the neighborhood was quiet and if I wanted to sit on the beach to reflect or read a book when not in Stanwood, the beach was only a block or so away. The cottage is in the back of the property of the owners, who have a beautiful garden and have done a wonderful job making it really comfortable. The cottage is pretty much gated within their property so you feel really safe, and traveling alone, that was a big bonus! The owners were very hospitable and wonderful conversationalists, and I so much enjoyed their company when I would see them. If you are traveling alone or with one other person, I highly recommend staying here.

Madrona Beach Cottage
Excellent hostess. Comfortable cottage. Esoteric shower. Sue (hostess), took extra care to make our stay very memorable. Kitchen cookware was a bit challenging but doable. Close proximity to the beach made for afternoon beach exploring. Very clean abode.

Cozy quiet little cabin
I met the owner briefly when I arrived, and she explained a couple of things that would have taken a bit of time to figure out on my own. The cabin had everything that I needed, and the bed was very comfortable. Very pleasant stay.

We love to travel and look for adventure travels, especially in the water. Our most recent trip was to Aruba, Columbia, Costa Rica, and Panama. We barely escaped before Covid hit hard. We could snorkel all day. Sue sells some real estate and Ken is in construction. Sue used to be a music teacher, teaching orchestra and sometimes choral or general music classes. She still plays the cello with the Skagit Symphony in Mt. Vernon and hopes to get back to that soon. Ken loves to play volleyball and is amazingly strong. He takes our little 'Fisher Price Dinghy' (that's what our neighbor they call the 'Mayor' calls our plastic dinghy that only fits one person with the crab rings) out in all kinds of weather during the season to catch Sue's favorite food, Dungeness crab. We fantasize about buying a bit bigger boat to share, and the little cabin across from us that needs a lot of love, moving out of view onto a foundation and creating a volleyball court and neighborhood pea patch to share. We love to dance, mostly ballroom, but some Latin, country, and contra as well. We love the outdoors and getting out more right here on this peaceful Island is a goal for this year. (Can't go much of anywhere else for now). Our picture was taken at the Yacht Club party down the street during their period gangster murder mystery evening that usually happens every year with a uniquely written murder mystery, written and parts played by locals.

Why they chose this property

We searched and searched for a home with character, one story, near the beach with deeded beach rights, and maybe wanted a Madrona tree and mature landscaping. We very much wanted a separate space for a rental. Ken wanted a garage, and only got a small space, but he has made do in finishing this 'art space' to the great cottage is has become. I had fun designing it and collecting the rocks for the shower floor. We love our yard and are constantly working to keep it under control - not quite winning. We fell in love at first sight when it was June and the thirteen peonies bushes were almost all still heavy with bloom, Wisteria crawled all over the trellis and shed, and Clematis bloomed over the archway.+++ Each month and season brings new excitement. We look forward to meeting people from all around the world. We hope you will find peace and comfort here as we have. We don't have clear water views, but like that we get a little exercise to go to the beach. Come find your peace and your piece of sea glass.
