Summary:
Welcome to The Writer’s Room, a serene hideaway nestled in the Byron Hinterland — a place to pause, breathe, and reconnect. Designed as a sanctuary for reflection and creativity, this intimate space invites you to slow down and immerse yourself in nature’s rhythm.
Wake to golden sunlight spilling across the courtyard, wander through three acres of open land, and bathe in spring-fed water that feels sacred to the touch. As night falls, light the fire, share stories, and dance beneath a canopy of stars.
Every detail — from the handcrafted ceramics to the curated linens and local teas — has been chosen with intention, creating a space that nourishes both body and soul. Whether you come to write, rest, or simply be, The Writer’s Room offers a gentle invitation to reconnect with yourself and the land.
The Space:
A PLACE TO PAUSE
Tucked beside Goonengerry House, The Writer’s Room is an intimate cottage designed for stillness, inspiration and retreat. Set on three private acres surrounded by rolling hills and birdsong, it’s the perfect place to slow down, breathe deeply and create.
SLEEP & REST
A queen bed dressed in hotel quality linen offers a cocoon of calm. Soft light filters through the windows, and in the evenings, the sound of nature creates a soothing rhythm for rest and reflection.
CREATIVITY & COMFORT
A small writing desk overlooks the gardens, inviting you to journal, read, or dream. Every item has been thoughtfully chosen — handmade ceramics, pure linen napkins, and artisan teas blended on Bundjalung land.
OUTDOOR BATH & FIRE CIRCLE
Step outside to bathe under the sky in spring water sourced from the land. As the day fades, gather around the semi-circle firepit — the heart of the property — and feel the stillness of the hinterland night.
GARDEN & GROUNDS
Wander through the vegetable and herb gardens, pick seasonal produce, and enjoy lemons, mulberries and finger limes when in season. The connection to the land is part of the experience.
LIGHT & LANDSCAPE
From sunrise to moonrise, the light moves beautifully across the property. Morning sun warms the courtyard, afternoon light pours through the front windows, and the night sky reveals a sea of stars.

Discover the Neighbourhood – Byron Hinterland & Goonengerry
Tucked away in the heart of the Byron Hinterland, Goonengerry is one of the Northern Rivers’ most enchanting and unspoilt regions. Here, winding country roads lead you through rolling green hills, towering rainforest, and hidden waterfalls — each turn revealing another breathtaking view. Spend your days exploring scenic drives, peaceful walking trails, and refreshing swimming holes, or enjoy a picnic by one of the area’s beautiful waterfalls.
The hinterland is also home to a vibrant food and creative scene. You’ll find farm-to-table restaurants, boutique cafés, and artisan producers scattered throughout the region — perfect for long, lazy lunches or sunset dinners after a day spent in nature. From here, it’s easy to discover the charm of nearby towns like Bangalow, Mullumbimby, and Byron Bay, each offering a mix of laid-back style, weekly markets, galleries, and local festivals.
Goonengerry is more than just a destination — it’s a way of life. A place where time slows, nature surrounds you, and the beauty of the hinterland is never far from view.
Getting Around:
