About this property

The Den of the Treehouse

Welcome to one of the most spectacular locations in Byron Shire and Australia!

The view is breathtaking.

Get picked up in our all-terrain vehicle from the pick-up point & car park nearby at the bottom of the mountain and get taken on a jungle Safari through giant forests to the top of the mountain half an hour from Byron Bay. 4WD access is required as it is a 3.3kms ride from the Car Park nearby to reach the pinnacle of this most unique wilderness area. There are no extra costs to you for this service.

"The Treehouse" has been a name that friends began to call it many years ago & now it has stuck. :)

The abode of peace & tranquillity.

Surrounded by a Rainforest Sanctuary & Nature Reserve, you have absolute privacy and one of the most extraordinary locations of the area and in Australia. This is a (nature) lovers retreat with pristine walks into old-growth forest or swimming in the sparkling secluded waterfalls so make sure you bring your walking shoes! Kinabalu is managed as a Private Conservation Park where the main focus is the preservation habitat for the wild, repair and regeneration of the rainforest. By staying here you help support us with our endeavour to preserve and enhance the rainforests of Kinabalu, Inner Pocket. You can plant a rainforest tree, if you like and over the years, watch it grow. :)

The Den is a small cosy self- contained room, with Kitchenette, anteroom & toilet facilities with a view that is *absolutely breathtaking*.

Wireless broadband Internet is provided & an awesome 5 channel sound system.

A much-loved feature of the Den is the outdoor shower where you can take in the breathtaking surrounds while you are pampered by fresh (heated) rainwater!! A second bed is provided in the form of cushions arranged as a mattress together with a doona & pillows.

A 4 wheel drive is necessary to reach the 'Treehouse' so all transport to & from the Treehouse is provided from the pickup & point & car park if need be. This service is *by arrangement,* and is included when you pay so there are no additional costs to you.

So if you intend to come to Byron just to savour the cosmopolitan atmosphere, you should stay in Byron Bay town. However transport to & from can be provided from Byron Bay or the airport if you wish for a fee, *$75 from Byron Bay from the airport*.

This is both a lover's & NATURE LOVERS RETREAT.

Please bear in mind that being off the grid, renovating this home has been challenging due to its location and difficult mountainous access. As a result of much labour, you get one of the most extraordinary locations in Australia.

Please also note you are in the middle of wild nature here so be prepared for lots of wild critters. They are a part of the experience. Ie insects, mice, possums, and snakes etc. we do our best but they are around and some folk are not used to them.

Food is provided for a hearty breakfast that includes muesli cereal, milk, juice & a selection of fruits. An assortment of condiments is also provided. If you wish to have served lunch & dinner this may *sometimes* be available by arrangement.

It has been quite an achievement to build this over the last 7 years . . now focused on the garden - still plenty to do!

Come and plant a tree if you have a green thumb! We have many seedlings on hand.

Please look also at our new listing called the 'Treepod', when not in use by family & friends it is available. It has an added advantage of being completely independent and very private, not to mention includes SAT TV.

See you at the Treehouse!. A very unusual and special nature based experience.

GUEST ACCESS

First of all, being totally surrounded by the Nature Reserve you will have access to walks in old-growth forest, walks to the waterfall & depending on your level of fitness a cornucopia of natures gifts. You will have exclusive use of the den, however, you will generally have the run of the garden & household.

PLEASE NOTE

Cooking facilities are provided by two gas stovetops, a grill, microwave & toaster. Basic condiments provided i.e. Olive oil, butter, salt pepper. Tomato sauce sometimes more. :)

Please note that you have only exclusive use of the Den. There is an entertainment facility in the room that includes Apple TV & a wide selection of documentaries & movies.

Also, be aware this is a Rainforest Jungle home built on top of a mountain in the middle of totally wild nature.

THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO BASE YOURSELF TO SAVOUR THE COSMOPOLITAN ATMOSPHERE IN BYRON BAY TOWN AND BEACHES.

Best to stay in Byron for that. You enter this wonderful natural reality AT YOUR OWN RISK. There are no concrete pathways with railings just natural walking tracks.

Please be prepared with the appropriate attire, bring a torch, wet weather gear & make sure you are fit enough to negotiate this wild pristine natural environment.

A true piece of paradise that must be experienced

We’ve travelled and stayed in many places all over the world and Robin’s piece of pure paradise is right up there in our must experience places. You are completely part of nature here with the most breath taking, captivating views and scenery. The Den is the most magnificent cottage with panoramic views and so comfortable and well kitted out. Robin makes one feel so welcome. We will definitely be returning. Very sad to leave.

Unique

Unique and different from the challenging hill climb to get there, to the view and marvelling at the building construction and rainforest. Our little dog loved it too. Robin the owner, was very friendly and obliging.

Incredible & serene

The most amazing location, the 20 min drive up the 4WD track is not for the faint hearted but we loved it. Once at the location, the panoramic views of the hills all the way to the water are spectacular, both in & out of our accommodation. Inside, the bed was comfy, there was an iPod with surround sound speakers with unbelievable tunes on & the fridge/pantry was loaded with fresh food placed there just for us.The outdoor shower is a major bonus. The host was super friendly & accommodating. Would 10/10 recommend, I wish we could live here permanently!

Rainforest Adventure Getaway

Robin is a good host with a very interesting background, be sure to ask him about it. Treehouse was well prepared including cookware & breakfast to Netflix. One of the best parts was having his dog Bono sleeping over at our treehouse for the night.

A peaceful getaway

The Den is like a tiny home with magnificent views. It was a lovely place to relax. You can easily spend your time inside relaxing or out exploring. Highly recommend the walk to the lookout and up the crest to see the majestic trees within The Pocket Nature Reserve. Robin was an attentive and informative host. Would love to go back to check out the other cabins.

Host profile image
- doing is honest philosophy

Passion for life & humanity, likes the cameraderie of friendships and absolutely loves our nature.

Being born in the green jungles of BORNEO forged a love of the great rainforest jungles of the North Coast regions of New South Wales.

Born in Kota Kinabalu formerly Jesselton, North Borneo made for a most unusual childhood.

All the more being the son of a senior Government official whose unofficial and official capacity was, among other things, was to entertain all manner of dignitaries including Prime Ministers, Ambassadors, Naval Captains, Admirals, Generals, Army Commands, future Australian Admirals, including even the Royal Family, made for a most unusual upbringing. So when you sign our visitor's book you will be in good company. :)

KINABALU is the name given to the Private Conservation Park in deference to a very special place in my heart, Mount Kinabalu, North Borneo (SABAH).

Why they chose this property

Stretching in a wide arch from Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay, it is filled with stunning vistas of lush green vales and hills of rolling emerald folds, home to an abundance of nature and villages to fall in love with. From day-long hikes in inspiring scenery, fabulous views and soak in the sun to lazy mornings with a coffee, there’s plenty here worth exploring in this magical forest jungle hideaway.

KINABALU of Inner Pocket, is a very special & unique place. Being primarily managed as a private Conservation Park with a human touch, we welcome you to share the magic of our jungle home.

What makes this property unique

This is the *ultimate* nature lovers and wilderness experience. .

Wake up to the sunrise from the top of the mountain looking over the valley to the Pacific Ocean in a cosy treepod cabana nestled in the trees.
