About this property
St Joans Cottage -An Artists Coastal Retreat
St Joan’s Cottage — A Quiet Artists’ Retreat by the Sea
St Joan’s Cottage began as the private coastal retreat of a local textile designer and artist — a place kept for thinking, making, reading and restoring.
Hidden quietly behind old gardens, this soulful heritage cottage has been lovingly curated as a sanctuary for creatives, writers and thoughtful travellers seeking calm, beauty and stillness by the sea.
Layered with beautiful linens, collected pieces, soft light and quiet corners, St Joan’s is filled with the owners own found vintage pieces — a place for slow mornings, long breakfasts, gentle work and long evenings on the back deck under a blanket of stars.
Here, time moves to the rhythm of wind and sea. Bedrooms are peaceful , dressed in Barbara ODonovan Design own linen collection. The kitchen invites slow cooking and long conversations. Outside, private garden spaces offer shaded nooks for reading, writing, sketching, or simply sitting quietly.
At times, this cherished retreat is opened to other creatives — artists, makers, writers and slow travellers — who come seeking a place to rest, to reconnect, and to be still.
This is not a party house.
This is not a new or renovated house.
This is not for lovers of minimalistic decor.
It is a place to slow down and return to yourself.
It is a place to sit and watch the ocean.
It is a place to watch the birds in the native garden.
It is a place to do nothing, lay under the shade of the Tree and nap.

About the host
Hosted by Barb O'Donovan
St Joan’s began as my own quiet coastal retreat — a small place kept for thinking, making and rest.
I’m a textile designer and artist based in Western Australia, and over time I realised this little house held a calm and beauty that others quietly needed too.
St Joan’s is now gently shared with creatives, writers and thoughtful travellers who value stillness, simplicity and soulful spaces by the sea.
It’s not a party house — it’s a place to slow down, read, write, swim, and return to yourself.
I hope you find the same peace here that I do.

Why they chose this property
St Joan’s has been in my family for over forty years.
It has always been a place to gather, to retreat, and to restore — a house where generations have come to slow down, share long meals, make memories and quietly recharge.
It holds a sense of continuity and calm that you feel as soon as you arrive — a place shaped by family, time and the simple rhythms of coastal life.
Today, it is gently shared with those who value stillness, meaning and soulful spaces by the sea.

What makes this property unique
St Joan’s is not a holiday house — it is a retreat that has quietly existed for more than forty years as a place of rest, gathering and renewal.
Once kept as a private family sanctuary and later as the personal creative retreat of a textile designer and artist, it has been lovingly curated as a place to slow down, breathe deeply and return to yourself.
There is nothing quite like it in Geraldton.
Everything here is intentional — from the calm, layered interiors and natural linens to the private garden spaces and the way light moves through the rooms.
It is not styled for trends, and it is not built for crowds.
It is a place for quiet mornings, long conversations, swimming, reading, writing, and being still.
A soulful coastal refuge — gently shared with those who understand the beauty of slowing down.
