About this property

Nicely decorated and immaculate 3 bedroom home with 1 remodeled bath. Perfect for a couple celebrating a special occasion, two families, a group of friends, or a relaxed spiritual retreat. The home is located 0.5 miles from the Blue Stairs before you reach South Beach in a lovely quiet and safe neighborhood. The front entry doorway has a keyless door entry into our living room simply decorated with a couch, chair and tables. It has a very peaceful ambience where you can relax, read a good book or reflect on the memories you will engrave in your heart on this trip. The open combined kitchen is the Place for everyone to gather for eating, maybe watching a good movie or taking a snooze. The kitchen is a full service kitchen with dishes, utensils and pots and pans. We have hopefully provided everything you will need. Extras are picnic basket located right by the fireplace, baggies, foil, paper towels, etc. The sitting area also has a cozy and romantic flair for that special couple affair. There is a Roku TV in the sitting/dining area.This combined area has doors to the backyard and to the garage. The backyard has a small patio with chairs and table. As reflected in pictures although yard not fenced it is private and serene with a nice flower garden. Grill, charcoal, fluid and fire pit with wood provided. You can set up the yard as you like. There is an extra table in the garage with table cloth. To open the garage door from sitting area you will open the door and press button to the left of the door. Garage has 3 used adult bikes and 2 used children bikes, some beach goodies , puzzles and toys for kids. We love sometimes sitting outside in garage; chairs are provided to sit in front and enjoy our peaceful neighborhood. Bedrooms are located on the other side of house. All bedrooms have a night stand and or dresser, chairs and ceiling fans. Please use fan light chains. Only Master bedroom has a Roku flat screen TV and a remote for fan and light. Other bedrooms also have ceiling fans with light.

Fantastic Labor Day Weekend at The Haven on Hazel

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Haven on Hazen over Labor Day weekend. The property had plenty of space for our party of 6 (4 adults / 2 children), and the added bonus was it well equipped with all of the accessories needed for a fantastic stay in South Haven including beach toys, chairs, an umbrella - plus multiple wagons and a cart to make it easy to transport everything over to the stairs to take down to South Beach. The owner was responsive to requests and questions via messaging, and even provided wood for the fire pit in the backyard. Overall great stay, and great experience - would recommend and would return to this property.

Location Location Location

Our family enjoys spending time at Lake Michigan. We have stayed in many rentals over the years on our MI trips, but this home by far has been the best location. We were able to ride bikes to the beach every day and avoid trying to find parking. In the evenings we rode our bikes downtown and enjoyed all of the shops and restaurants South Haven has to offer. The house was clean and the hosts were very responsive. We used the beach chairs, sand toys, and bikes that were available for use in the garage; these were an added bonus. This home is a great option for a beach getaway!

Nice place

It’s like going home and staying at grandma’s house. Perfect size for my family of 5 and I loved all the extra beach stuff in the garage. It was nice not to worry about packing that stuff knowing it was already there.

Hosts are generous with extras like blankets, bikes and kitchen ware. The family room only seats 4 but the house sleeps 6. If you plan to be out and about a lot, this home will suit your needs.

Larry and JoeAnn Kohn are the proud senior retired property owners and managers of The Haven on Hazel Street. We live in Oak Park, Illinois.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property many years ago and have found that the area has not changed much at all. We first used as a yearly rental with same tenant for 7 years. Then we decided to use for ourselves as a vacation home which still wasn’t used much because we always found ourselves working and taking care of our family. We love this area. It reminds me of my small country football city hometown called Massillon, Ohio. South Haven we know is one of the top 30 places to visit. We realize now we bought a diamond in the rough not knowing that we would have the privilege of serving you and so many others. Since buying we have done many updates and are continuing to do so.

What makes this property unique

We really love the view from our big picture window in the living room and the combination of the kitchen, dining and sitting areas which generally brings us all together. Must be a thing about the kitchen and food. It’s pretty cozy and Plus the kitchen steps right out into the back yard which makes it pretty easy to transfer whatever you need from the kitchen to the backyard for fun filled festivities. Then for us we love sitting in the garage laughing, talking and reminiscing about the day or whatever is going on.
