The Barn Tasmania Circa 1820

The Space: Once part of the historic Bull’s Head Hotel, The Barn is a beautifully restored 1820s sandstone hideaway tucked quietly behind one of Hobart’s most recognisable buildings. Private and secluded, it offers a rare sense of calm right in the heart of the CBD.

Renovated in 2015 by award-winning local architects, the project received national architectural and heritage recognition for its sensitive approach and craftsmanship. Original sandstone walls, exposed timber beams and heritage details have been skilfully retained and balanced with refined contemporary finishes. Polished Tasmanian Oak floorboards run throughout, adding warmth and a clean, modern edge to the space.

Guests enjoy exclusive use of the entire two-storey residence, including a private rear courtyard and dedicated off-street parking — a standout feature for an inner-city stay. Double-glazed windows keep the space quiet year-round, with a fireplace, electric heating and cooling allowing you to stay comfortable in every season.

The Barn is fully functional for a comfortable stay. Downstairs features a stylish, well-equipped kitchen with dining and living areas. Stairs lead to the mezzanine level where you’ll find a the restored queen-sized bedroom complete with exposed rafters and a dedicated study area for those working away from home.
