About this property

Authentic 1882 Hand Hewn Log Home

We would like to share our Authentic 1880's Hand Hewn Log Home, It is the original family restored Homestead built in 1882 as original as possible with the addition of a wood burning fireplace and two bathrooms (half bath up and full bath with shower down).
The Downstairs consists of a living room /dining room with a recliner couch and chair and kitchen table, bath room with a shower and a small but complete kitchen with a microwave ,full size stove and refrigerator coffee maker and toaster. The large upstairs bedroom is accessed by the original stairway (see photos) which is one large room with a queen size bed two twin size beds and a half bath.
Open porch outside with a small gazebo in a green space is provided for guests.
Located 2.5 miles from downtown Sturgeon Bay across from Franke Park and a five minute drive to Sturgeon Bay or the Lake Michigan public Pierhead and beach.
The Home is located on our property that shares the driveway and our Residence , The Homestead is located in a rural setting with neighbors nearby, It is not in a wooded area but more a relaxed neighborhood.

This inviting and very cozy cabin was a wonderful place to celebrate our 40th anniversary and spend our very first trip to Door County. The history and family ties to this place was very interesting to hear about and such a remarkable renovation! The hosts are awesome, friendly and accommodating, we loved our stay here and will be back,very clean and well kept up! Dixie was a fun little visitor as well

Such a wonderful property! Spotlessly clean and full of thoughtful details. We slept great and felt so comfortable in the cabin. We enjoyed sitting on the front porch to drink our coffee. Hosts are friendly and responsive. We would absolutely stay here again! Only tip is if you have trouble with stairs this might not be a good place for you because the bedroom is upstairs, but this was not a problem for us. We absolutely loved our stay at the Homestead!

This is an authentic restored log cabin, but it has been remodeled inside with modern conveniences. Everything about our stay was perfect. It was very clean. The kitchen and baths were equipped with everything we needed. The 2 window air conditioners kept it comfortable even in a July 95 degree heat wave. Russ has a fascinating story about the history and restoration of the cabin.

Russ was very welcoming! The cabin was spotless and super clean when we arrived. It’s such a special little cabin with a lot of cozy touches that add to the overall experience. We looked forward to seeing Dixie run over and greet us anytime we were coming or going from the property. We would definitely recommend this property and look forward to coming back soon! Thank you!

There are so many things I could rave about because this was the perfect base for our exploration of Door County. The cabin is conveniently located to locations out-of-towners would want to visit while allowing a private feel out of the fray of some of the in-town accommodations. The cabin is gorgeously restored, thoughtfully furnished, and sparkling clean. The bed was very comfortable, and there was an abundance of towels, wash cloths, and hot water. Those may seem like odd things to include in a review, but they are very much things you notice if they are not present in a rental. Their presence shows how much attention to detail is paid to making the homestead welcoming to visitors, and we'd recommend it to anyone!
