Good stay with bad ending
All in all we had a pleased stay. The room was clean. It was small. The couch was also the bed. Nevertheless the bed slept pretty okay.
There were some minor things.
First, the room was advertised with a whirlpool bath, but this was not present. I didnt make a deal out of this considering that I didnt need this.
Second the person checking me in and out spoke only French. This was communicated, but in the end resulted in problems.
Third, it is quite annoying that you have to check in and out with someone. It feels unnecessary. There was little flexibility for the check in which meant I had to change my own holiday plans.
But all was okay for this nice appartement in the center of Gerardmer.
The problems started after the check out. All of a sudden I received an additional 30 euro fee for not cleaning the appartement and for not taking out the trash. I did clean the appartement and did take out the trash. The person renting this appartement told me I agreed to paying this cleaning fee, but that is not the case and to be frank just a lie. To me to it feels as if the person renting out this place is using my inability to converse with the person at the check out to her own advantage. After I contacted her and explained the situation she stopped communicating, which at best is childish.
All in all this left me with a very bad after taste. I have stayed in 10 different apartments and guest houses during my last holiday. None of them screwed me over like this. Very disappointing.
