About this property

The cottage on the hill in the woods

Welcome to our home away from home! Located at the end of a short gravel drive, our cottage is conveniently located near many local attractions, restaurants and shopping. It is just 3.8 miles to the French Lick Casino, 5 miles to the West Baden Springs Resort, 6 miles to Paoli Peaks and 15 miles to Patoka Lake or Hoosier National Forest.

Though it is easy to get to, once you arrive you'll be surrounded by woods on your own private 5 acres.

Spend your day relaxing on the porch listening to nature, going for a walk in the woods or enjoying yourself sitting around the fire pit (free firewood included with each stay!) If you do venture out, you can check out all the area has to offer. There is a winery, antique and artisan shops, restaurants, putt-putt golf and much more to see and do!

When inside, you can turn on the flat screen TV to watch one of the streaming services or live TV while using our free Wi-Fi and included Amazon Firestick.


*For the safety and security of the property and our guests, we have a ring doorbell at the front door.

Our little cabin has a 4 person max capacity, including visitors. If you require a space for more than 4 people, unfortunately we won't be able to accept your reservation. Please note, the driveway is narrow and gravel. If you have a boat or a larger vehicle than a truck, such as an RV there is not adequate space to maneuver it up the drive or a place to turn it around so we ask you to find an alternative place to park those vehicles in town or at Patoka Lake.

Cozy cabin close to the action

We fully enjoyed our stay. Hiked at Patoka and skied at Paoli! Enjoyed family time with games and movies while at the cabin.

Great cabin

A perfect cabin for two couples. Close to French Lick, Spring Mill State park and Lake Patoka. We enjoyed the peaceful setting, fire pit and the woods. Highly recommended.

Small but cozy

It's about as advertised a small cozy little cabin. Clean enough and a perfect little spot for a getaway vacation. Driveway needs some work though.

Peaceful Hideaway!

Great place to stay-clean, quiet and well-equipped! Close enough to all conveniences but far enough to offer you some peace. Property owner is easy to work with and accommodating! I would definitely stay at the Hoot Owl Cabin again!

Cozy and relaxing

Perfect for a quiet and relaxing getaway. We walked around and had lunch in downtown French Lick. Went hiking at Patoka Lake. Most of our time was sitting outside by the fire.

We enjoyed the cottage in the woods

We had traveled to French Lick to meet family from Tennessee for a mini-reunion. We are in our 70s and 80 so the bathrooms and small bedrooms were a little difficult for us to maneuver but were suitable. The linens and towels were very comfortable. We did like the location for it's peace and quiet and closeness to the town. The property manager was helpful and willing to communicate. We would recommend a stay at the cottage on the hill.

We had an amazing time. The property was very clean. The amenities were above and beyond what we expected. The owner was prompt in any communication we had. I would highly recommend staying here. We all had a wonderful time. It felt like you were deep in the woods but only 5 minutes to town. The best of both worlds.

Cabin on the hill in the woods

This cabin is nestled in the woods which means lots of quiet and peaceful sounds but yet not far from the town. Cabin was really cute and perfect for a girl's getaway. Cabin was very clean. Beds were extremely comfortable which to me is rare. I slept better here than at home. The host was really nice and always replied to any questions quickly. Seen lots of deer in the area. I highly recommend this cabin if you want a quiet getaway. I would definitely stay here again.

Everything was wonderful...plenty of charcoal fluid but no charcoal for the grill! Plenty of firewood though. Wished we could have stayed another week!

This cottage was awesome. We traveled to Patoka Lake for the 4th of July weekend and enjoyed every minute. The cottage was cozy and clean, and we were provided with everything we needed. Would stay here again!

Perfect solitude

I live near Indianapolis with lots of light/noise pollution. My goal was to get away to nature... see the stars and no planes, trains and automobiles in the background. Mission accomplished. The cabin was clean, and well stocked and just adorable. I made some "forever memories" and I'm grateful for my time away in the woods.

Quaint & Peaceful

HOH is a very quaint, quiet, peaceful little slice of paradise located perfectly out of town in the country, but not too far from French Lick. We've visited for the last two years for our family's annual "girls weekend." Lots to do in the area but we usually drive to an Amish restaurant during our stay, which is less than an hour away. Amenities are wonderful; outside fire pit and nightlights are perfection. Owner, Noah, is wonderful to work with and does an excellent job communicating.

Peaceful serenity getaway.

Listing was very accurate. Property manager responded promptly to all communications. While the property was located in a secluded wooded location, it had all the comforts of home. Perfect location to celebrate our 45th anniversary. Loved it!
