Playing Hooky was the perfect set up for our quiet family getaway! Carrabelle is a very cute town. We enjoyed watching dolphins every morning and even saw manatees one evening. Lori was amazing to work with, anything I needed she was quick to respond and so helpful!
We absolutely loved our stay at “Playing Hooky” It was so peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed. The house was clean & had everything we needed for our vacation. Coffee on the porch in the mornings watching the sunrise & dolphins play was amazing! We will definitely be back :)
Just as the pictures show! A wonderful little water front home with great fishing just steps from the deck! Well furnished with just enough decor to make you feel right at home. A stocked kitchen for all the cooking you may want to do! Very responsive owners and very nice neighbors!
This is our 2nd time staying at Playing Hooky and we will definitely be back. The house is very nice and less than a mile from the boat landing. Overall it was a great mini vacation!
We celebrated two family member birthdays and enjoyed relaxing days sitting on the back deck enjoying the beautiful unobstructed views of the water. We also enjoyed watching the fish jump amd dolphins swim by. There was plenty of space for our family of 7 and the beds were very comfortable. The kitchen is well stocked and has everything you need. Would recommend this house a nice, quiet getaway!
This home is so picture perfect! The view of the beach from the porch was so ideal! The beach was so nice to have so close to the house. The area of the home is very nice and the town of Carabelle is close by with an IGA grocery that was very nicely stocked! We chose this home as it was close to family and it will be a home that we keep in mind for future vacations! Thank you for opening your home to our family!
I cannot express how wonderful communication with the owner was. The house was very clean and well stocked. The view can be seen from 2 large windows. Very serene but still close to anything you need. I can't wait to go again
Playing Hooky was an excellent place to stay. Wonderful guiet location with a host that was so helpful. The beds were very comfortable, well set up kitchen, very nicly furnished living & dining and a beautiful porch overlooking the water. Enjoyed a relaxing fire at the firepit on our last night. Great attention to details, even the toilet paper was nice. Looking forward to staying again. I highly recommend this property.
We had an Amazing weekend with the family just relaxing , enjoying the views , watching dolphins and riding around the small towns. Lori was quick to answer any questions we had. house is very cozy, just what we needed.
We will definitely be back to this property.
After 2020 changed our Christmas plans we started looking for the perfect place. We found it in Carabelle! The house was away from all the business and allowed us to just be a family for a week. Also there is a delicious fresh fish market down the road! This place had everything we needed and more!!!
We went for our 2nd annual girls’ trip. It was such a relaxing place to stay for a few days. We were able to enjoy our time sitting by the water and the porch was a great way to spend mornings and evenings. We saw crabs and rays and dolphins daily. The area is away from the hustle and bustle of the busier tourist areas. Would be great for small kids, couples and was perfect for our girls’ trip.
The house is a lot closer to the water than you may think. We loved sitting on the porch chatting and enjoying the view. We didn’t spend much time inside, but there was plenty of space! We loved it! We used it as a home base for an FSU graduation. FSU was hour away, but 100% worth it!
Lori was a great host who was responsive to all my questions!
Check in was easy. Lori responded right away when we asked questions. The beds were so comfortable. The house had everything we needed. The views are excellent! Love the veranda overlooking the bay. Would recommend to anyone! Thanks!!
Property was exactly as advertised. It was clean and well stocked. Wifi wasn’t good and cell service with Verizon was slow but we managed. The small town has a Dollar General and IGA but you have to drive a good ways for larger stores, which was to be expected. St. George Island was about 30 min away and worth at least a day trip. Would love to come back on future vacations. I did text the number provided with a question and never received a reply. Other then that communication was good.
Absolute phenomenal little getaway for our family. Traveled with my husband, two children (age 3 & 8), and my retired Mother In Law. The home was spacious with a huge kitchen for cooking, and had everything we needed! The kids LOVED playing on the beach and catching hermit crabs. We saw sharks and dolphins daily and even found a horseshoe crab! We also enjoyed making s’mores beachside by the outdoor fire pit.
With a well stocked Dollar General just minutes down the road, we enjoyed cooking family meals in-house and eating out on the beautiful patio while we watched the sunset! We also visited The Fisherman’s Wife and Angelo & Son’s for two meals out. Both served amazing food but be warned wait times may be high due to staffing shortages.
Hosts were super responsive and we felt very at home in this property! We appreciated having both a Keurig and a traditional coffee pot provided in the kitchen as well. Looking forward to booking a return trip this fall!
First impression… dead bugs, dusty walls, bathroom sinks had toothpaste/soap residue from previous guests, moldy/rusty interior ceiling vents. Comment from cleaning staff was that a “ deep clean” is only performed once yearly.
Ample broken beach chairs were provided. Fishing was pretty good. It’s not concerning that it’s old, it’s the lack of cleanliness that was disappointing. We didn’t get actual property address and key code for entry from the owner until day of check in. We would not recommend this property until it has been thoroughly cleaned and rid of mold.
This is the 2nd time I’ve stayed on this property, the 1st time was in 7/2020. We love the house, it’s plenty big. The house is a bit older but accommodating. The beds were very comfortable also. The deck overlooks the bay which is beautiful and very quiet. The home sits next to trees on one side and a few homes on other. Both times that I have stayed here I’ve seen other people at the other homes only a couple times.
We brought our kayak both times. The bay is perfect for kayaking. I have seen more sea life at this location than anywhere I’ve ever been. The tide was out more in Oct, so it would’ve been difficult to kayak in the mornings but that was not the case when we visited in July. With the tide being out, it does allow more exploration of sea life. We saw star fish, lots of different crabs, jellyfish and dolphins on this trip. You can walk down the beach some but with homes and personal piers we didn’t go too far.
The closest beach is about 15 min but several are about 30 min away (SGI). I wouldn’t swim at the house but it would be great for sitting and getting feet wet.
Carrabelle is a small town, if you’re looking for low key and few people this is your spot! No worries with parking or fighting crowds for dinner. There are some restaurants in town a short drive away. I already miss watching the water and sitting on the back deck.
I would caution that this property has about 20 stairs to climb to enter/exit but the high deck is also what makes the view.
My family and I decided to forego presents this year and spend some quality time running away for Christmas this year. Knowing we would arrive late on Christmas Eve, I reached out to Lori earlier in the week and she was so kind and talked me through expectations and login.
Upon arrival everything was as described. The house was perfect for our needs (if not a little big) and created a venue for my small family to enjoy quality time together. It was too cold to bring our kayaks but next time they will absolutely come with us. My husband and son were unsuccessful in catching any fish, but had a blast none the less. Waking up to the most gorgeous sunrise was especially magical. Despite the private and secluded property there is plenty to do around the house.
We don’t care much for the commercialization of coastal vacation places and Carrabelle ended up being exactly what we love. Zero complaints from us and we are already looking at booking a summer vacation with this property. We will be back!!
House only had 1 roll of toilet paper in each bathroom and a half used roll of paper towels in the kitchen besides that We enjoyed the house and property! We enjoyed the white squirrels.
