About this property

Classic Maine Coastline Estate

Tucked away off a private sandy road, you'll find our classic country estate, ensconced in five wooded acres with expansive views of the Kennebec River, leading to the Atlantic Ocean and our rugged coastline. Our property boasts capacity for 14 guests who will enjoy our saltwater swimming pool, jacuzzi, two chef's kitchens, an elegant yoga shala, an elevator, a screened porch and abundant decks, and a fieldstone fire pit in the woods. Welcome to our quiet haven in Maine, the way life should be.

Our elegant compound features direct access and dock space on the Kennebec River, just ten minutes from the Atlantic Ocean at Popham Beach. Adirondack chairs line our spacious decks and balconies. Our spaces evoke the best of Maine: stately coastal elements reminiscent of the sea, and cozy, rustic spaces reminiscent of the quiet Maine woods. For additional fees, various services ranging from massage to reiki to private yoga instruction are available on site.

The property consists of the Maine House, with four spacious bedrooms with water views, four full bathrooms (including a large jetted soaking tub), an elevator, a chef's kitchen and dining room, elegant living room, large library, three gas fireplaces, wraparound balconies, covered garage, large outdoor pool, jacuzzi, and spacious decks, all overlooking the Kennebec River.

The property also includes the Lodge, a converted barn connected to the Maine House, which smells deliciously of cedar, and includes a full kitchen, living room, dining room, master bedroom, full bath, and a perch with trundle beds, perfect for children looking for a fun escape into the eaves for a night of giggling and ghost stories.

Finally, the property includes the Bunkhouse, a two-story structure just a stone's throw from the Maine House, with two sets of wooden bunkbeds on the first floor and a master bedroom on the second floor, as well as a full bathroom and a cozy stove to warm the space.

The entire estate has unobstructed views and access to the water, where a dock and sand bar offer ample opportunities for clamming and boating.

The location could not be better: 2.5 hours from Boston, 45 minutes from Portland, 20 minutes from Bowdoin College's beautiful campus in Brunswick, and 10 minutes from historic Bath. The property is hidden away with just a few other homes in close proximity, making you feel miles away from everything.

We are glad to be a dog-friendly property for an additional fee.

Gorgeous!

This home is every bit as beautiful as the photos, but the library was our absolute favorite place to hang out, watch movies, play board games, and do puzzles together. Kitchen well-stocked and easy to navigate, and decor is extremely tasteful and discriminating. Pool was welcomed on the hot days and after yoga in the studio, and the pool floats, towels, and toys that were provided were a bonus! We had worries about not having AC in the main house but the fans and night breezes put those worries to rest. Day trips to Popham Beach and Bath for fresh fish and farmer’s market veggies were awesome. Fishing off the dock while watching a USS destroyer sail by on its way to and from Bath Ironworks for sea trials was epic (bring sneakers to get to the dock). If you’re looking for a retreat at a place where your family can spread out, break bread, and relax together in the beautiful state of Maine, this is it.

There are significant water issues with the property. In spite of our careful use, following all the signs posted throughout the rooms as well as the manual, laundry came out with rust and the water tasted minerally. We did reset the filtration system as instructed, but it did not make a huge difference. In spite of paying for heat, the pool never reached above 75 and the owner refused to give me a refund. The pool did not have enough water in it when we arrived, and required daily backwashing in order to have any heat. the heater shut off if it needed backwashing (which meant being tied to pool maintenance) it's a beautiful setting; some rooms are more adequate than others for a larger group (the main house is lovely);but i don't think we will return given the amount of energy it took to maintain the home during our stay, and the difficult communication with the owner.

Response from VrboOwner on 15 Sept 2025
Having rented my home successfully and without issue for more than a decade, very rarely, we've had an extremely challenging guest, thankfully. Unfortunately, Rachel and her family proved to be extremely difficult. Early in her stay, she demanded a refund and threatened to leave a bad review if we did not provide one; we refused to provide a refund, so here is her bad review. As a guest, she was rude to staff, demanding, and even belligerent: her barrage of text messages and complaints began the moment she arrived on site and never stopped. We were extremely responsive and courteous (as we are with all our guests) nonetheless. During her 7-night stay, she demanded and received on-site service on 3 separate days from two different property managers, and as the owner, I even drove 2 hours on a Sunday to provide on-site service myself because she was so upset--in person, she refused to speak to me (in my own home!) She even obliquely threatened the risk of legal action, the basis for which we still do not understand. We provide instructions to all our guests about how to add water to the pool if it gets low during the hot summer months (very easy, hose and spigot are adjacent to the pool) and how to backwash the water filtration system (pushing two buttons) in case either needs maintenance during the heavy summer tenant use. No other tenants this summer struggled with these tasks. While Rachel wrote that she would be unlikely to return to the property, I can reassure her that she wouldn't be invited to return, either.
