Host profile image
We're not longtime inhabitants of the hill country. We've been on the ranch about 9 years, and one of our few regrets in life is that our 56 years together didn't bring us here sooner.

We fell in love with the hill country and its people. Ancestries are common and family ties run deep, yet these warmhearted people have a way of making us newcomers feel right at home.
And the environment. Rich in history as well as in natural bounty.
Pecans (over a thousand varieties in San Saba).
Birds (over 400 species migrate through Edwards Plateau.
Wildlife (all the usual plus bobcats, beavers, mountain lions, ringtail cats)
Water (the Colorado River is the longest river to start and end in the same state).
Parks (10 State parks in the hill country alone).

Most of our adult life was spent teaching--for us, truly rewarding careers. John still teaches online and makes students high priority, but if you happen to see him on the ranch, you'll almost certainly mistake him for a native Texan who grew up on the back of a horse (or a tractor). We both love the outdoors and find that nurturing the earth and our animals feeds out spirit,

Why they chose this property

THE OWNERS ARE ALSO THE MANAGERS.
The property is managed by the owners, who are almost always on the ranch. Their home is a quarter mile from the vacation rentals. They take personal pride in providing the best possible vacation experience for their guests. If you need something, they're easy to contact and will do their best to assist you.

THE COLORADO RIVER IS AT YOUR BACK DOOR.
Half a mile of Colorado River shoreline forms the western boundary of the ranch. The only way to reach this beautiful sanctuary is from privately owned ranch land or from the river itself. Anyone who reaches it by river has a right to use the shore but not the 40 or so acres beyond. In short, the only people you're likely to see in the river bottoms and on the shore are those who have been given permission by the owners of the Ranch at Red Bluff.

YOUR LODGING SHARES A PASTURE WITH EXOTICS.
You'll see them from your front porch and back deck as well as on the walks you take. You can toss feed in their trough and get within a few yards of them.

NATURE MUFFLES THE SOUNDS OF THE OUTSIDE WORLD. The ranch entrance is a mile from the nearest highway, down a one-way winding county road. The land is bounded one side by the river and on three sides by other private ranch land. Yet you're barely 15 minutes from San Saba and about 25 from Lampasas.
